So fun! I am adopted and did my ancestry dna test. Results were as expected around 50% African and 50% European and Scandinavian. But the coolest part is that I linked up with a biological relative and found my biological parents! Now I have an amazing relationship with my biological mother thanks to Ancestry DNA ❤️❤️❤️

No my sister, the indigenous population did not go extinct. DNA studies show over 62 % of the population has Taino dna between 12 to 23 % . Extinction was taught in school but it is mis education the correct word is the Taino survivors were eventually assimilated and absorbed the tri-racial Puerto Rican most of us are today.

GREAT VIDEO!!! I was born in Chicago, but raised in PR. My parents were born in PR. At 18 years old moved to USA and after 19 years, came back to PR for 3 months and I have been here for 6 years already. I am married to a childhood friend, who I always liked😆😆😆. I am very happy in here. I don't want to go back to USA.
I am from Yauco, south side of PR. Kelly, if by any chance you have any family or friends who live in Guayanilla, Yauco, Peñuelas or Guanica and still have electricity issues, let me know. My husband works for the electric company an those are the towns that he gives electric service to.

Melissa Torres Lots of other Europeans besides Spaniards settled Puerto Rico. Portuguese, Irish, Scottish, Corsican, French, Maltese, Italian and German ethnicities settled. However, Spaniards were the largest and it’s usually Spanish ancestry (Portuguese too sometimes as they are neighboring countries) that is the bulk ancestry of most Puerto Ricans.

I got so excited when I saw this video posted because I've recently been going on the journey to learn about my family and I've done both Ancestry DNA and 23andMe! Seeing other people's stories is so interesting to me. Ancestry actually connected me with a possible very close relative that I never would have expected. I too had many surprises (shout out to the French 27%, Portuguese 17% and Spanish 4% DNA, coming from someone who only knows her mother's side which is all Germanic and Swiss roots🤔) but both Ancestry and 23andMe lined up for the most part, so I feel better about believing the results! It's amazing what our DNA can tell us! Your story is so exciting, thanks for sharing, I learned a lot about Puerto Rican culture by watching😊

There were Germanic tribes in Spain for some time so DNA from those northern areas in Europe do come out in these test. Arab Dna can show up too. Following the fall of the Western Empire, Hispania ( Spain ) was conquered by Germanic tribes (Visigoths, Suevi and Vandals) and then by the Moors. The Moorish presence on the peninsula lasted until 1492 and the fall of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada.

I actually took both Ancestry and 23 and Me, and found that 23 and Me is slightly more accurate (at least it was for me). They were both fine and got the general idea of my ethnicity, but the 23 and Me report was more exact and accurate to the information I have of my family tree. For example, one of my grandmother's was half Danish, which should amount to around 12% of my DNA. My Ancestry report stated that I was 6% Norwegian and 6% Swedish, 23 and Me reported that I am 9% Danish. That happened a couple of times, the Ancestry report got around the general area but 23 and Me got the exact ethnicity.

Where does Cherokee Indian come into the picture?? Weren't they from North America? I see you have North American Indian (Native Amer) but that's very specific.
Spain and Portugal were Iberia once. Iberia is also from where the Celtic people originate so most of the Irish/Brits/Welsh were Iberians in ancient times who traveled West. The North African/Mali percentages you have are probably related to Canary Islands or Southern Spain ancestry. Italian/Sardinian ancestry probably from Roman period, Byzantine period or the Carthaginian rule in North Africa and the Mediterranean.
Some people claim that these DNA tests only show recently ancestry but these percentages appear to be ancient so you have to take a historic perspective when analyzing results. The Scottish may be related to the ancient Phoenicians and Carthaginians who were some of the first sailor/explorers. European Jewish could be related to Sephardic Jewish from Spain.
The Southern Bantu people introduced crop cultivation in agriculture in the Southern lands. Mali had a great empire but I believe that there was an even greater empire in West Africa with connections to Mali which date back to a very ancient time. Much truth is still hidden.
