Yes. Roman Rite or Latin Rite are both correct when referring to the rite, but all the various rites are one in the Catholic Church, as we are all part of Christ's mystical body. ☺️

@@anthonypuccetti8779 you don’t understand the nuance here, the fact that the See of Rome, whose bishop is Pope (papa or father) the Supreme Pontiff and Vicar of Christ, has supreme Catholic authority over all other Sees. Any dispute on doctrine and morals is settled by the See of Rome, by virtue of Christ’s declaration “I give you the keys of the kingdom. Anthony, And why did he use it? Why was it only first used in thr 1200s? Why was it always the Catholic Church before that and after that? Funny enough, anti-catholic slugs to say the Roman Catholic Church was started in the 300s with Constantine. Definitely a contradiction by most non-Catholic accounts.
The reality is that it was used so late in history because it has a context. And you have to read it in that context. It's because the Orthodox had broken away from the Catholic Church, yes, the Catholic Church, and the pope was saying that if you are not in union with Rome, which is true, then you are not part of the Catholic Church. So he used the Roman Catholic Church, (only once in that document to be clear) to show that the Catholic Church is the true Church, and in order to be part of that true church, you have to be in union with Rome and the Pope.

    • @anthonypuccetti8779
      @anthonypuccetti8779 2 роки тому

@@CatholicTruthOfficial It was used because the Catholic Church is Roman, for being governed by the Roman pontiff and church. As Pius XII said: “To be Christian one must be Roman. One must recognize the oneness of Christ’s Church that is governed by one successor of the Prince of the Apostles who is the Bishop of Rome, Christ’s Vicar on earth” (Allocution to the Irish pilgrims of October 8, 1957)
"The reality is that it was used so late in history because it has a context."
The context doesn't take away from the fact that term was used by popes, clergymen and laity to mean the whole Church and the religion. Dioceses call themselves Roman Catholic, as you can see from an internet search of the term. And it is used by traditionalist Catholics to mean the whole Church. It is used in encyclopedias and other books and by the news media to mean the whole Church. The rejection of the term since the 1960s has to do with embarrassment and disapproval of Roman authority and the movement away from Roman centralization. Latin rite Catholics didn't even know about other rites until the 2000s when Catholic authors and apologists started talking about them, and Church documents never use the term Roman Catholic to mean the Roman rite. So it is absurd and ahistorical to say that that is what the term means. I'm not blaming you, by the way. But you should get your information from Church documents, not just contemporary apologists and authors.

We acknowledge that The Authority comes from wrong because the pope is there. But the Catholic church in general worldwide is called the Catholic church and always has been. Only when there have been discrepancies with people who have tried to usurp the authority that Christ gave the church, or rejected the Pope that Christ gave us, that they would sometimes focus more on the authority that Christ gave the church, and the pope, and being in Union with Rome. But that doesn't take away from the fact that it's the Catholic church, that the Catholic Church goes by that title, Catholic Church, for that Roman Catholic refers to other Rites as opposed to the other Catholic Rites of the church which all fall under the one, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

But protestants all believe, amongst other things, the simplistic beauty of Eph 2:8: for by grace are ye saved through faith.
      I'm confused.
      Catholics have different rites.
      Is that not confusion?
Catholics say that you have to do works and penance to be saved and to receive the sacrament.
Does this mean they do not believe Eph 2:8?
      I'm confused.
Do Catholics even believe the Bible?
I can find nothing in the Bible about Christ's death having to be repeated all the time in the mass.
Romans 6:10- he died onto sin once.
So how come he died every time a sinful priest commands it during mass?
      Catholicism is so confusing.
      The Bible speaks as one.
The Catholic church speaks many different things.

I was Catholic myself and I was in the Roman part of the Catholic Church, but as I turned 18 and I started praying since I was 11 years old. The spirit was guided me to another church because as I got older, I learned the most important part doesn’t matter if anyone is good or bad, no one is good but the Lord himself in Jesus Christ. I read Mark 10:17-21 realizing that I am not good myself. I’m not perfect, but as all of us that truly believe in the Lord, true God of Israel through the father son and Holy Spirit, repenting our sins to put Jesus first to put God first in our lives and it is not our work that I realized which I thought was what would make us better to God‘s eyes, but realize the fact that Jesus died for our sins was what made me realize how much God loves us! Therefore, even in the book of James, rather using our works to glorify God, by reflecting our love and faith in the Lord, the desire to reflect on his examples to grow in the spirit. I pray to Jesus pray to the Lord and the father son and Holy Spirit. That’s what got me to where I am today. It was because God was guiding me and he’s guiding all of us and working on us in many ways to get us closer to the body of Christ.

Yes, just as I brought up to you in the comments of another video: I don’t identify myself as “Roman Catholic.” On my dog tags, I elected to put Catholic instead of Roman Catholic. This is because anti Catholics use the term in a derogatory sense. And also because the term was first used by Anglicans because they identified themselves as being Catholic, even though they were not really Catholic. So they would call Catholics “Roman Catholic” or Romanizers or Papists to distinguish themselves from Catholics under jurisdiction of Rome. And as you pointed out, we are in One, holy, Catholic, and Apostolic church. Not a Roman Catholic and Apostolic church. And the catechism does not say Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church. It says Catechism of the Catholic Church. I just happen to be in the Roman Rite. And thanks be to God that I was born into the Catholic Church when I could have been anything else!

Anthony, and why did the pope use that titlein 1208? Why was it only first used in the 1200s when the Catholic church was called the Catholic Church all along? The reality is that it was used so late in history because it has a context. And you have to read it in that context. It's because the Orthodox had broken away from the Catholic Church, yes, the Catholic Church, and the pope was saying that if you are not in union with Rome, which is true, then you are not part of the Catholic Church. So he used the Roman Catholic Church, (only once in that document to be clear) to show thst the Catholic Church is the true Church, and in order to be part of that true church, you have to be in union with Rome and the Pope.

A little correction, there are 24 sui iuris churches ( latin, Ukrainian, maronite, Ethiopian....) but only 6 rites or 6 rite families : Latin, Byzantine, Alexandrian , East Syrian, West Syrian and Armenian.
A rite can be used by many Sui Iuris Churches ( for instance, the Byzantine rite is actually the most used rite in the Catholic Church when considering the number of Sui Iurus churches, it used by the melkite catholic Church, the Ukrainian catholic Church, the romanian Catholic Church and many others). A rite family can have many sub-rites as well. The Alexandrian rite is made up of the coptic rite used by the coptic catholic Church and the Ge'ez rite used by both Ethiopian and Eritrean catholic Churches. The latin rite used by the Latin church is made up of many rites as well: the Roman rite, the most used and nearly everywhere in the Latin Church, the Mozarabic rite in some places in Spain and Portugal, the Ambrosian rite in Milan in Italy, The Zaire use (inculturation of the roman rite) in my country DRC.
It just happened that by an accident of History, the Latin Church is now the biggest sui iuris church of the Catholic Church, consisting of about 99 % of catholics. And Also, the roman rite is now the default latin rite almost everywhere.
In the language of the Catholic Church, the Roman Church refers to diocese of Rome ( Just as the washingtonian Church would refer to the archdiocese of Washington). In that sense, less than 1 % of catholics are part of the Roman Church.
If "roman" is understood as applicable to the rite, yes, the vast majority of catholics use the Roman rite but only because the roman is the standard rite of the Latin Church which is the largest sui iuris Church in the Catholic Church.
But protestants and EO don't use the label "roman" in a innocent way. It is always derogatory, either to deny the full catholicity of the Church or, in the case of evangelicals, to make a sort of connection to the pagan Rome/roman empire.

There are 23 other Rites other than the Roman Rite in the Catholic Church. Many of these are Eastern churches that have come back to the Catholic Church. While we are all basically the same, the differences would be found in that they have their own traditions and forms of liturgy. They same basic liturgical structures and theology as seen in the West but might have different music, or certain Traditions that they have in their own Rite. For example, in the Maronite Rite, they say the consecration in the original Aramaic that Jesus would have used. Also, in their sign of peace, the priest takes both his hands and puts them over the deacons hands as the sign of peace. Then, the Deacon takes his hands and puts them on the Altar Boys hands in a way that looks like prayer hands. Then the altar boy takes it to the congregation and every person passes it on to every other person with sign of peace. These are just a couple of examples, but each Rite has their own little 't' traditions like this.

It is true that some Popes used it that way, but not most. But the modern use of this has come from anglicans who try to distinguish themselves as the true Catholics, as opposed to Roman Catholics which they used as a slur. The modern invention of this is used by Protestants as a weapon, and is not used by the Catholic Church because it's not really accurate to describe the universal Church as a whole. Some hopes to use data show that The Authority comes from the pope and from Rome, but again, it is not accurate more representative of the whole Church. Which is why the church doesn't use that title.

Geodie @ your confused because the title Roman Catholic offends and you are told to find it offensive, own the title Roman Catholic as a badge of honour.
Since Vatican 2 the church has adapted to make it easier for Protestants to convert to the catholic faith, thats why the Latin mass, the statue of the saints, standing rather than kneeling when receiving the Eucharist, etc etc. Has gone from the Churches.
The mass is more Protestant in nature than Roman Catholic, (the Roman Catholic’s were also known as Latins.)
The Protestants now refer to themselves as Christians and soon will call themselves Catholic, and the mass will become more Protestant, I’ve seen in many parishes where the priest doesn’t give the Eucharist anymore, that’s the job of the special ministers, soon they’ll be a bowl and you will just help yourself.
The more we change the church and the mass for the conversation of Protestants and other eastern mysticism cults the more the church and mass will change and be lost forever and our identities as Roman Catholics and the importance of Eucharist.

Jesus already fulfils those roles. The reason why we regularly approach her is simply to ask her to pray for us. There is nothing wrong with one human being praying to God on behalf of another human being. It happens all the time. St Paul often asked fellow human beings like himself to pray for him (Romans 15:30; 1 Thessalonians 5:25; Ephesians 6:18). Does that mean that Paul didn't believe that Jesus is the ONLY way to the Father? Of course not. He definitely believed the words of Jesus in John 14:6. Non-Catholics don’t understand the Latin connection, now that the Latin Rite or Novus Ordo (new order) is said in the local vernacular or language. Another example is say the Maronite Catholics: their tradition is Maronite; their official language of their church documents and Mass is Greek. Yet they are in union with the Bishop of Rome. The church has used the Latin down through the centuries because before the printing press, most of the world who could read or write, they wrote and read in Latin. So this has become the language of the church, and even most Catholics could understand the Latin language at the mass. But of course the Catholic Church translated the Bible into other languages as well so people could have it in their own dialects.
