Thank you Fr. Tyler Strand for your thorough explanation between the two different Rites. I am a Western Roman Catholic who attends the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Latin Rite aka the Tridentine Latin Mass and have been an Acolyte server for almost 3 years now. Our local Chaplin/Celebrant Fr. Peter Hrytsyk, whose a half Ukrainian Byzantine Priest from the Ukrainian Eastern Byzantine Catholic Church, has been celebrating the Tridentine Latin Mass in our Latin Mass community for almost 20 years now here in Windsor Essex, Ontario, Canada and we have been so bless to have him, especially celebrating his 50th Anniversary of Priestly ministry. I have also visited and attended a few of the Byzantine Divine Liturgies in his local Ukrainian Catholic Church Parish in the city and yes it is quite different, but has been an amazing experience.
Father, thank you very much for a wonderful explanation of the Eastern liturgy. I'm a Latin rite Catholic and we do sometimes attend the traditional Latin Mass. We are lucky in that we are parishioners at a church where the Novus Ordo mass is done correctly. Our Lady of the Rosary in Greenville, SC. Our pastor is a former Anglican priest. He came into the Catholic Church I think about 12 or 13 years ago. The Mass is done beautifully ad orientem, incense, communion rail, the way I think the Novus Ordo was supposed to be. When it is done correctly and reverently it can be very beautiful. I am very appreciative of the Eastern liturgies. We attended a Maronite Church for many years before moving. When we are on a trip we go to an Eastern liturgy if we can. It is majestic and beautiful and you are quite correct, it brings you up to Heaven for a short time.
Sound advice. I am from the RCC. Didn't realize until a couple of years ago we had Eastern Catholic churches in full communion with Rome. Went to a Byzantine church twice. Both times felt more than welcomed parishioners, which were also very friendly and helpful . Same with the Maronite church. Sunday, I might be visiting a Ukrainian Catholic church. I found it best to just send an email with any questions. However, just like the video said, it's your first time. Just take it in. I love learning more about our bothers and sisters in the Eastern Rite Catholic churches.
I am lucky to live in rhe Pittsburgh PA area and by driving 20 miles in any direction i can find over 40 Eastern Catholic Churches! I love visiting the Eastern Churches!
I am a raised Roman Rite Catholic who has been worshipping in a Byzantine Catholic Church for about 30 years and now waiting for approval of my petition to be formally received into the Byzantine Church. I feel like I am coming home. Please pray for me.
Wonderful exposition! Such clarity, sobriety, gentleness, and deep spirituality. Thank you, Father! Glory be to Jesus Christ, who is Lord and Savior and God!
I am a Brazilian seminarian. As a baby, I was baptized in the Byzantine rite, as I am of Ukrainian descent through my mother, but I grew up in the Latin rite, and I am in a Latin rite seminary. When I am ordained a priest, can I celebrate the sacraments (especially the Eucharist) in both rites, or just in the rite in which I was formed? I also extend my question to priests who were baptized and ordained in the same rite, if there is any rule about this. Thank you for your content, it is helping me a lot in my training.
Priests from Byzantine Catholic rites are allowed to celebrate in both. As you have been baptised Byzantine, there could be an issue because you made no formal documents of passage from one rite to another, so there might be an issue there

I’m Latin Rite & I’ve seen Byzantine online. The Divine Liturgy is a beautiful expression of worship to our Lord. Thank you for the video Father. God Bless!
i think the way the maronites administer communion (by intinction) is, in practical terms, the best way to go about it. only, if the roman church were to adopt this practice as its ordinary way people would have to stop taking communion in the hand and receive on the tongue; something i don't think some people would not be very happy about.
These video productions are very good. I am currenrly a Catacheumen of the Latin Rite, to be baptised this easter, god willing. Before I decided to go Latin I was going to become Orthodox, just discovering the Byzentine Rite of the Catholic church seems to be the best of both!
I go to a parish celebrating the traditional Latin Mass and have to drive quite far for it. I have seen the celebration of the Holy Eucharist in the manner Father described. I don't find this odd in any way or shape and it's very beautiful. My question is, in times of Covid etc.and people's heightened fear of falling ill, how do you address the "spoon" that would be dispersing into a recipients open mouth, especially since the Covid outbreak? Are you using disposable spoons, or which means are in place to address the natural fear of contracting a virus etc.? Thank you for your beautiful introduction of the Byzantine Catholic Rite!🙏🏼✝️📿🌿🌹
Went to my first Divine Liturgy of the East Sunday. I'm Roman Catholic but found the Eastern to hit different in me. At this point, I'll combine going to both.
From a Byzantine Catholic catechumen: I find the title disheartening and ludicrous. Our faith is not a competition but a family. Why would my brother not be welcome in my home? True, many in the West have treated their Eastern brothers atrociously over the centuries; however, that gives us in the East the opportunity to “forgive those who trespass against us”. Please, come and join us, the candles, the incense, the icons, and the chant. Christ is risen! Indeed he is risen!
I enjoyed listening to this explanation. I hope the Eastern Catholics never modified their practices to align with Roman innovations. The distribution of the bread and blood of Christ from a single spoon is highly reverent and doesn't deprive members of the wine
Hey father im confirmed in riman catholic church but all the horrors of the novus ordo and the disrespect to Our Lord in the Eucharist i left and my sons are now confirmed byzantine. Hi im an eastern orthodox from Greece. Your architecture is very identical to us. I wanted to ask. Do you represent the union of the churches, at the very end of the Byzantine empire?
No brother. They are Unionists in union with Rome ; As both of us are Orthodox we consider them heretics as they accept the authority of the Pope and all of his wrong teaching that our Church views. This union movement started in my country Romania in an attempt from the Pope to get a grip from inside by letting us autonomy as 1 Bishop signed it to gain political power in Transilvania. As a greek you should remember what Saint Mark of Ephesos said about the union with Rome.
Does the Byzantine Catholic Church follow the Julian or Gregorian calendar?, I went to a Eastern Orthodox liturgy last week watched a Byzantine Catholic liturgy online and realized the readings were different.
Im Brazilian and i m planning to go back to my birthtown São Paulo to go to a bizantine Catholic Church to see what s like but can i tale communion being roman Catholic?
Yes, but it's VERY VERY DIFFERENT so I recommend you watch this video again and pay very close attention to how you receive Holy Communion in the Byzantine way. I see you're Brazilian so you may not have understood fully what he said since you speak Portuguese. No disrespect intended and if I'm wrong, I apologize. I'm only trying to help! Just remember that the Body and Blood are received at the same time via a small spoon that is put into your mouth and that you DO NOT close your mouth over the spoon....the Priest will tip the spoon over so that the Body and Blood fall off onto your tongue.

WARNING TO THE WORLD FROM GOD: NEVER READ JOHN 1:1 WITHOUT READING JOHN 12:48-50, WHICH PROVES JESUS ONLY SPEAKS THE WORDS OF GOD. TO REJECT THIS IS TO REJECT SALVATION. STOP CALLING GOD AND JESUS A LIAR; THEY ARE ONE IN AGREEMENT IN ALL THINGS (JOHN 10:30).
As ever since the Romanist Pseudo-Church was formed when it broke away from the other 4 ancient Patriarchates and those in the Patriarchate of the West who opposed their breakaway, in 1054, it seeks to impose complete submission to Rome, the junior third of the see of Peter (and Paul).
Are Roman Catholics welcome? Absolutely. But kindly leave your latin supremacism at the door. We don't need to hear your idea about how it would be nice for everyone to pray a rosary before the Liturgy starts. Let roman devotions stay in roman churches and come check out ours with an open mind, willing to experience and explore our tradition as it was received, rather than finding ways to personalize or tweak it by latinizing it. I speak from experience after we had a bunch of trad romans recently come through the parish.

Mark 7:7. “Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” 1 Timothy 4:3 “Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.” 2 Timothy 3:15 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Thank you, Father, I am a Western Catholic from Nairobi Kenya. I follow you on UA-cam so much. You are such a blessing. God bless you
Thank you Fr.
Has the TLM been restricted in Canada since you posted this comment?
Love from a member of Syro Malabar east syrian catholic church
Amen
Thank you, Father.
I’ve been contemplating this for some time. Thank you making this video.
I love Catholic Church, both Eastern and Western Rites.
I am lucky to live in rhe Pittsburgh PA area and by driving 20 miles in any direction i can find over 40 Eastern Catholic Churches! I love visiting the Eastern Churches!
That is a wonderful explanation...thank you!
So cool! I wish there was a Byzantine rite near me. I love the icon they look so cool.
I am a raised Roman Rite Catholic who has been worshipping in a Byzantine Catholic Church for about 30 years and now waiting for approval of my petition to be formally received into the Byzantine Church. I feel like I am coming home. Please pray for me.
This is excellent thank you lord for this priest for the explanation of how our faith is celebrated
As you have been baptised Byzantine, there could be an issue because you made no formal documents of passage from one rite to another, so there might be an issue there
The Bishop of your diocese will have your answer
Ask your bishop
You can be given bi-ritual faculties and be allowed to celebrate both
i went to my first bzyn mass last sunday i was invited by my friend to come and i loved it its was very different but i just copied whatever ppl were doing its funny too cuz i only knew what part we were at is when they stared reading the bible lol im still pulled towards the roman rite but im glad i got to go to one atleast once
I am from Passaic i didn't know I could go there I used to live by your Holy house in Passaic. It was like God was leading me I just didn't go but now af 37 after almost dying and being in the hospital with 2 broken arms and 7 ro 10 broken ribs I started to train my voice singing Lithurgy songs and I found out about being both orthodox and catholic in communion with the Pope. I want to change my baptism to go to byzentine instead of roman
Byzantine or Roman Catholic Church is the same Church. The RITE is different.

…You are worried about germs when receiving the Holy Eucharist?
Fantastic. Thank you.
This answered my question why Roman Catholics does not receive the blood of Christ every mass. I only received it maybe once or twice in my life.
Interesting you mentioned this. I'm RC and since the Covid plandemic I've noticed some parishes are not distributing the blood of christ
Went to my first Divine Liturgy of the East Sunday. I'm Roman Catholic but found the Eastern to hit different in me. At this point, I'll combine going to both.
I've been attending both Catholic Mass and Divine Liturgy myself. It's been great for my prayer life.
From a Byzantine Catholic catechumen:
I find the title disheartening and ludicrous.
Catholic is Catholic. It doesn't matter which rite.
Hey father im confirmed in riman catholic church but all the horrors of the novus ordo and the disrespect to Our Lord in the Eucharist i left and my sons are now confirmed byzantine. The parish we attend treats the eucharist like it should be with reverence and love. Our priest is one of the finest men i have ever met. Glory to Jesus Christ!
@CatholicDefender-bp7my no they are horrors. The amount of abuse that goes on is allowed. Yep I have communicated multiple times there is nothing they will do which is why I went where I know Jesus in the eucharist is revered.
@CatholicDefender-bp7my go look up italian priest slaps young girl for kneeling to recieve communion...horrors of the novus ordo indeed
@@whitneyferoce4870I have been to Masses in Chicago City, Tempe, St Mary in Orlando, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Bali, HK, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, the Cathedrals in Sydney, Milbourne, Perth (including parishes in Perth), but none of them clown Masses. I am a Roman Catholic blessed to also have a Byzantine Catholic church in my neighborhood. It’s wonderful!
I wish Byzantine churches were as common as Latin Rite, but there are so few. Even large states like Texas and California have few. I think Florida has only two? If they were everywhere, I might petition to change rites, but there is no Byzantine church near anywhere I want to retire.
Holy Theotokos, pray for us!
We are both brothers and sister in Christ. ❤🙏🏽⛪️
Hi, for the last year have been attending mass every week. And a divine litergy as well right after I come out of mass. Could I remain biritual?
For example, one of the priests that celebrates the divine liturgy at the byzantine church in my town also occasionally celebrates mass when needed in the Roman church in our town.
Ora Pro Nobis. Kyrie Eleison! I wish there was a Byzantine Catholic Church in Hawaii. How would one get such a church to start in Hawaii (or anywhere)? Who do I contact for that information?
Is the Eastern Catholic Church dying out? Is there any Eastern Catholic Priest on youtube? I keep seeing Orthodox Priests on UA-cam. Where is the Eastern Church on youtube? It's so scarce.
Does anyone know of any prominent Eastern Catholic Priest on youtube, spotify or anywhere?
I so felt the same...
I'm Latin Rite and I always wanted to check out a Byzantine liturgey, but was never sure if I could. Silly question, I'm sure.

As a Roman Catholic, could I have my child baptized in a Byzantine Catholic Church without having to go through the change of rites??
I've been truly saddened that the Hagia Sophia is a mosque again.
I attend a Maronite Church and was raised in a LATIN RITE which people commonly call the "Roman" Catholic
Both. Depending on the parish.
Are services in the Coptic churches recognized as valid when it comes to communion?
coptic catholics ?

Im Brazilian and i m planning to go back to my birthtown São Paulo to go to a bizantine Catholic Church to see what s like but can i tale communion being roman Catholic?
Yes
@@richardsaintjohn8391 thanks

Byzantine is not Orthodox. Orthodox is not Catholic.
Father can you do a video refuting eastern orthodoxy? Orthodox apologists are crushing us catholics on youtube and the romans cant refute their arguments. I thought perhaps we byzantine catholics might have a perspective to shed light on the errors on both sides?
Could you share those arguments with us? I know of non and have seen the orthodox arguments debunked.

Divine Mosaic by Likoudis, crushes EO. Also Vindicating Filiouqe book and Erick Ybarra and Wiliam Albrecht destroyed few of their apologist
You can’t refute them. Because deep down in your soul, you know they are correct.
Aren't Eastern Catholics Roman Catholics like Western Catholics? That is, both under the Papal umbrella?
They are the same. Only the culture and architecture is different.
Roman Church is one of 24 Catholic churches.
Eastern catholics are eastern rite catholics.
Western catholics or roman catholics and latin/roman rite catholics.
Are you in comunión with the Pope? That’s all that matters
Want to improve the Latin Rite? Simple: All Latin Rite priests should have to learn the Byzantine Rite. Same for deacons.
I don’t think so because some Roman or Latin rite priests are not permitted to do so.
WARNING TO THE WORLD FROM GOD:
NEVER READ JOHN 1:1 WITHOUT READING JOHN 12:48-50, WHICH PROVES JESUS ONLY SPEAKS THE WORDS OF GOD.
Roman supremacy?!?; LOL!! My Mom's side are all Byzantine and my Dad's side are all Roman. My Mom introduced me to the Byzantine Divine Liturgy when I was VERY young and to this very day I find the Byzantine rite superior in EVERY WAY, HANDS DOWN!! I don't know what you're talking about about but anyone who wants to see what a REAL Mass should be just needs to go to one Byzantine Mass.
