I lost count of the times I had a problem staring me in the face and overlooking it. It happens to the best of us. I did see the fuse holder and wondered about it when you first showed the back of the amp. I do enjoy the audio equipment videos, so keep them coming!
Hi Douglas, I can't believe I looked at the Speaker Fuse Box on the back & it STILL didn't click ! Brain dead that day I'll tell you ! Cheers Mate, happy 2025
I had a chuckle over this one - traced the wiring through and EVENTUALLY found them. I better not laugh too loud though - It'll probably be me next time! To Peter's credit he only used a thin strip of cigarette foil. It might have burnt out before the output trannies cooked . maybe... I've got a Sansui AU101 which I love. I re-capped it years ago and replaced a couple of germanium transistors with silicon. Not a high powered amp but the sound is beautiful! Cheers and Happy New Year to you and Kimmy!
I looked back on it & thought how could I be so stupid ! For some reason the brain was disconnected, probably not enough wine ! Anyway thought no I'm not cutting it out, makes a realtime stuff up video. Hope all going well your end, see ya's soon
Quite a nice tuner/amp. I believe those output ICs can be recreated with discrete components and a few people sell them on the internet. So this shouldn't stop these amps being repaired in the future.
Hi Baz great video. I love the old stuff . I will never get rid of my late 70s Sansui. Recapped its great. Yeah remember cigarette foil in my 70s kingswood . Haha. cheers mate
Thanks Andrew. I started fixing car radios when I was 12 years old. Always into electronics, did a basic electronics course (TAFE) in the early 70's, self taught from there on.
Hey Baz, you've mentioned a couple of times the difficulty of getting radio stations without any outside aerial hooked up, which is also the same trouble I have, where my hobby sees me working almost in a bunker! Would you maybe do a video someday maybe of what goes in to attach an external AM/FM aerial and exactly the cabling and antenna required to really make a difference when reception is hard to achieve? I never know whether just to use a common wire for AM and FM, or use coaxial or 75ohm? cabling etc etc.... Just a thought. Thanks again anyway for this video. :)
Ahh yes, the problem of AM Radio reception these days ! I am in a totally RF shielded Colourbond workshop, the only thing my radios pick up (as you have seen) is all of the switch mode supplies around, lights etc. I do have an FM Antenna which is a small 3 element unit that is going up very shortly. Lots of FM stations in my area. I will be using RG59 75ohm cable for it. AM ? well I do have a long wire aerial outside the workshop but I still have lots of noise picked up from the inside. There are basically only 2 AM stations left in my area that are close enough for a good signal. I am looking at installing a MiniWhip on the workshop. This unit is described bu Manuel's youtube channel "Electronics Old & New" - Great channel by the way, check him out ! I will certainly look at doing a video on the FM & AM installs & test the performance of them, great idea @theoloutlaw ! Cheers
Lol this reminds me of my first amp repair. I was 10. I used the old tin foil trick ! Bugger buying new fuses. The guy i sold it to still thinks im a magician lol.
I would say that is what happened. Still can't believe I missed seeing the fuses at the start, LOL. Anyway, left the video as it happened, might help someone else if they overlook them as well. Cheers
The fuses must have been in an inconspicuous place. The receiver manufacturer should have addressed the location of the fuses, if that's what the video 📹 is talking 👄 about. Great 👍 2025!! Your friend, Jeff!!

Absolutely Brilliant video /lesson . Don’t change anything and keep the quality vintage Amps coming . 👏👏
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I have a few more old amps in the queue!

Very interesting, I will check & see what I can find, just in case I get one with a dead IC.
Great amps !

LOL !
Cheers Mate !
I ❤️ Rotel vintage and Revox too
Their both nice !
Love to know where you did your training and work history. A real Professional approach and no Bull.
Thanks Andrew. I started fixing car radios when I was 12 years old. Always into electronics, did a basic electronics course (TAFE) in the early 70's, self taught from there on.
@ Did you do it as a full time job.
@andrewhenderson9474 yes, all my life.
Been 55yrs now
@@techobaz55 so you did an Apprenticeship as an Tv Technician.?
No. Just a basic electronics course.
No TV course back then
Ha ha! I'm shouting at the screen 'The speaker fuses are on the back panel!". Hopefully you'll see them soon!
😅
😂
You got that right, LOL. I'll eventually get there !

Bax the fuse position on Rotel amp has caught many Tecs they are quality amp not many about now,Ian,
Still can't believe it didn't see it Ian !
Blind in the old age.
They were and still are a high quality amp for sure.
Happy New Year mate 😃
@ And you Baz and Family Mate,
Baz also did one of the big caps have a hole burnt on top? Oh I like your introduction video with the music is that new?
No hole burnt in the cap, just reflection of light. Newer intro, still experimenting, don't want it too long.
Cheers
@@techobaz55 Nice intro music! That's good no burn hole!
Lol this reminds me of my first amp repair. I was 10. I used the old tin foil trick ! Bugger buying new fuses. The guy i sold it to still thinks im a magician lol.
😂 I still have a couple of those fuse types in my toolbox, just in case !
@@techobaz55i have upgraded to a slow blow quarter inch bolt lol. That fits well 😂
Most likely the owner must have touched the positive and negative together to blow the fuse or faulty speakers!
I would say that is what happened. Still can't believe I missed seeing the fuses at the start, LOL.
Anyway, left the video as it happened, might help someone else if they overlook them as well.

Jeff, I just missed seeing the fuse box on the back. It was clearly marked fuses.
I better take more notice next time 🙂
Haa i have a few dial cords that need your attention lol.
LOL, you know my stress level exceeds extreame with those !
Happy 2024 mate :-)
Looks like a cloned Technics Receiver. 🤔
It does indeed but apparently no connection. Cheers & Happy New Year !
