Thanks for reacting to my guide.
One of the goals when creating the guide was to show reactors (and others) various songs which rarely get reacted to, among them being their song ↑↓←→BBAB, of which I personally love and it gets completely forgotten.

The band you saw in Denver was the western Kamis. The eastern Kamis haven't performed outside Japan since 2019. As mentioned elsewhere the eastern Kamis are getting older and have families and may not be up for the grueling tour schedule. The western Kamis are Chris Kelly, guitar, CJ Masciantonio, guitar, Clint Tustin, bass, Anthony Barrone, drums. Chris, CJ and Clint are all from the band Galactic Empires. Anthony was from Shadow of Intent. They all have other band and projects.

Looks like I wrote too much again - my comment has disappeared. So glad you finally watched a guide and this is the most up to date and most accurate as things stand.
In your own time you may want to check out the guide by CrypticMisery as well. That only goes up to early 2021, about half way through the 10 Budokan 2021 concerts and it covers much of the same info as you got here, but it does provide a bit more detail about choreographer Mikiko, Kobametal and the Kami Band.

    • @Grington300

On the Kami Band and the possible reason the last time we saw the Kami Band of the East was at the BABYMETAL Returns concerts in January 2023. As you know, they are session musicians, so they have their own bands, projects and families. They could tour and occasionally swap members in and out all the time BABYMETAL's tours were relatively limited and shorter.
The Kami Band of the West was first introduced in 2019 to support BABYMETAL on their increasingly lengthy tours.
Last year BABYMETAL toured virtually non stop after April playing 97 concerts in 25 countries, so it made sense the Kami Band of the West should act as the touring band.
The extensive touring has continued this year with so many concerts and festivals all around the world and so many more planned, including their upcoming first tour of South America which seems to have had extra dates added here and there which will be followed by another US tour in November.

    • @Grington300
      @Grington300 2 місяці тому +4

Not all UK festival crowds are hostile. However, when BABYMETAL was announced for Sonisphere there were some elitists who thought it was a money-grabbing "industry plant" (whatever that is) or a joke or gimmick band who should have never been invited to play there. They got even more angry when it was announced BABYMETAL would be on the main stage and threats to boo and bottle them off stage were made on social media ... it didn't happen fortunately.
I'm sure there are more songs you haven't seen or heard and don't forget the one-off cover songs they've performed. As well as playing 'Painkiller' and 'Breaking the Law' with Rob Halford they repeated those songs on the last day of their UK tour supporting Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but with Chad Smith from RHCP on drums ... look for one of the fancam videos for that and wait for the big surprise Chad had for Su at the end.

It's just my speculation but all the eastern kami members are in their forties now and have families. And babymetal tours A LOT outside of Japan so maybe they just don't feel like being away from their families when they can just do other session musician jobs and stay in Japan. Also I know atleast the bass player for the eastern Kamis (BOH) has had some issues with his hands/fingers and has had to change from his 6 string bass to a 5 string one.

Excellent. I really appreciate you did the guide.
Regarding the timing of their studio albums, their first album came out in 2014 and their latest in 2023. So, it's actually 4 albums in a 9-year span. The first 4 years are explained by the fact they were part of a larger group (Sakura Gakuin) until 2013. Plus 2020 happened and then they went on hiatus in 2021-2022. So, as you said, it's more like an album each 2-3 years.
Andy Copping, Download promoter, has a personal issue with them (he's the classic gatekeeper) and he's still not over it.
UK crowds can be extremely rude with the artists if they don't match their expectations. I've seen bands booed on the stage though massive bottle throwing.
Momoko totally deserved it and that was the right decision. The louder cheering when she introduces herself during "BABYMETAL Death" (still today) totally proves it.
This is a great guide and the most accurate and up to date we have now.

For what I can see you haven't reacted to some songs (or the reactions are taken down) like "Kimi to anime ga mitai" (which is a cover/response launched in a collaboration single with the OG band, Kiba Of Akiba) as well as one-off covers only performed live such "Tamashii no rufuran", "White Love", "Chokotto Love", "Love Machine", "Tsubasa wo kudasai" or (the most important) "Over the Future" (original from Karen Girl's Su's former girl group).
Also other own songs like "From dusk till dawn", "Awadama Fever" or the freaking "Tales of the Destinies". 😁

They do Karate, then Rob Halford joins them for an abbreviated version of painkiller(just Su and Rob...no yui/moa), and a full version of breaking the law(yui/moa return with pint sized flying V's in hand). The vid is on YT, on the award shows official page.

3 of the current Western Kami band members (guitarists Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio and bassist Clint Tustin) come from the Star Wars themed metal group Galactic Empire. This band was already supporting act for Babymetal at a few shows in 2018 and are the main touring band for Babymetal since their 2019-2020 world tour.
The current drummer is Anthony Barone.
However the Western Kami band members are currently also doing other stuff so they had to replace Clint Tustin with Ryan Neft for a few shows and I think Anthony Barone will not be available later this year. We'll see who the replacement will be, I'd love to see Nyango Star finally perform with Babymetal (check out his / her Akatsuki drum cover). 😁

Loved this thank you! Regarding the Download festival where they weren't invited and crashed the stage via Dragonforce invite; the previous year Download (I saw this in an interview) were pressured to invite someone named Psy who had made a bad impression on them, and they were very leery of having the same thing happen again. Not defending the decision (it was a bad one) but there are probably dozens of other examples where they say no and it is a good choice for the venue, it's just unfortunate that they applied the fad label to BM when they talked about the decision.

For reference, Suzuka started her career in entertainment, at age 3. So yes, her whole life was spotlights.
Moa joined at age 8, winning a competition of more than 10 000 (!)
Yui started early, at age 5 or 6 and also was a child actress at a time, something I thought she would return to doing, but we've yet to see.
The whole thing around the fox, Kobametal would incorporate as much as possible in everything Babymetal does early on, so it became their own creation and as much original compared to regular metal bands.
An other reason for April first, is that it's the start of the fiscal year in Japan.
The UK crowds are hostile only for things they feel are not authentic.
Like if Babymetal was just doing their pop and metal things with a backing track and not taking it serious enough, but these girls go hard just like the Kami band.
Matt Heafy of Trivium was also an early supporter, the earliest big supporter was ex-Megadeth guitarist and living in Japan for decades now: Matty Friedman.
I think the Eastern Kami band probably doesn't tour because they tour so much, Babymetal in 2023 did more shows than ever before, almost a 100 in total in that year.
But their might be other practical reasons, Babymetal needs to get less visas now when entering the US and communication with the local staff in venues, etc. outside of Japan. I think their is a whole plan behind it, we don't get to see.

Plus Moa and Yui in Mini Pati Cooking Club, and baton club Twinklestars. Momoko in the science club Logica. There is so much you and most of the new fandom are missing out on not exploring Sakura Gakuin. Here are some suggestions: (with English subs if possible)

If you check out rihos time in morning musume. She joined as part of the 9th generation and was in the group from 2011 to 2015. She sang lead for the first time in her second single with the group only you. Many fans consider her signature song to be one two three. She was a lead vocalist her entire tenure in the group and became the absolute center in 2012. She is regarded as the absolute ace of the group even to this day. To this day she is one of the most popular members the group has had. The last remaining member of her generation is currently the leader of the group as one of her other gen mates was leader amd graduated last year.
The group has been around since 1997 so there is a lost of history and many former and current members.
Moa metal actually performed a metal version of morning musumes song love machine
Yui also performed a metal version of chokotto love by one of morning musumes sub units
    petimoni.
Side note rihos signature style was to out perform everyone around her even if she couldn't out sing them

Brit festivalgoers sometimes drunkenly throw bottles at each other; I vaguely recall reading about it happening during Day 1 of Sonisphere 2014. In any case, BM was booked to play a lunchtime slot on Day 2 (they were second on the bill), & a huge crowd turned up out of curiosity (due to the grassroots hype & the Gimme Choco MV going viral). Somehow, their short 5-song setlist proceeded to win them over, which remains one of the most implausible events ever.
Thankfully there are isolated fancams testifying how they did it. Babymetal Death instantaneously bemusing all to stop & watch. Gimme Choco prompting collective head-nodding as they recognize the tune. The Kami Band solos enthusiastically drawing loud cheers. Catch Me If You Can mustering overhead clapping of hands. Megitsune compelling many to dance along. IDZ (a schoolgirl ditty against bullying!) rousing moshpits & crowdsurfing to materialize. "We want more" & "one more song" chants breaking out as BM exited. Several spot YT interviews in which delighted attendees, when asked for their response, gleefully confessed their surprise & enjoyment.
The 2014-2016 concert era remains BM's most maniacal ever, with the classic lineup (original trio + East Kamis) unfazed & always rising to the occasion literally gig after gig (ultimately capping with two 55,000 sold-out headliner shows at Tokyo Dome), & the audiences learning to energetically reciprocate during the participation parts. They largely honed the unique BM live experience of today. In fact BM was veteran enough by 2017 (while in their late teens) to support legacy bands like Metallica, RHCP, Guns N Roses & Korn.
Do watch the 7-song Metrock 2015 set on Dailymotion to relive how brilliantly spunky the then-younger performers were during those halcyon days.

Ever since 2017 there has been a (gradually shrinking) section of the fanbase that's kept counting on Yui to return eventually, and they weren't thrilled about it as it shattered their hopes of a Yui comeback (e.g. there's one here on YT who keeps referring to the new Babymetal as "the Other Ones"). By 2023 however they weren't all that many or all that vocal anymore.
One thing the guide doesn't mention is already in 2018 Babymetal took a third girl, Saya Hirai (google "Sayametal"), with them for a few concerts, microphone and all -- and _that_ brought quite a bit of a backlash. It was just too early.

The Saya Hirai incident was in one of my original drafts with the general troubles of 2018, as I really wanted to rake some of the truly nasty Yui fans over the coals after the nastiness they displayed toward Momo when she joined. However, I had asked myself if it was good for the fanbase and BABYMETAL to immortalize them in a guide, and opted to not include the worst of our fanbase as they will fade away.

@@AFoxSonga well considered choice, and I, believe, the right one.
The guide isn't made to talk down on anyone, but to deliver true facts to potential new fans of Babymetal. So just as everything concerning Babymetal, the intent should never be negative. I'm glad, you got that little dig in concerning Yui stans, it made the point, and it's no lie.
I don't know if you read these comments, but in case you do: thank you for making this guide, and making it so good! We are all in the business of being fans of the girls and Babymetal as a whole, and imo part of that is making sure newer fans don't fall for deceptive or outright false "facts". As I've also told the kind of core of commentors of The One (like grington, Jake Muller, flugelhorn and roadrunner), it is always nice to see efforts like this. Especially in these times, where rumors and hear say are often mistaken for facts, and some people will randomly trash performers for no other reason than to make their own bias look better. So thank you for this and Kitsunes up!!! 🤘🏻🦊🤘🏻

@@Hgoenge81 I certainly read the comments directed my way, and appreciate any feedback and kind words sent my way. I've tried my best to fact check everything, and sometimes that did mean leaving things out that I couldn't confirm, or found information that contradicted it.

I would disagree with the statement that Momoko wasn't serious about competing in GIRLS PLANET 999.
I don't think she would have relocated to South Korea as a joke in order to compete.
There were 13,000 applicants, and she was one of the 99 final contestants selected.
A lot of the girls were former Idol group members, and there was a lot of singing and dancing talent.
I think she was really smart in using her sense of humor to stand out from the crowd.
She was robbed of screen time, and the voting was setup to favor fans in South Korea.
Of course it ultimately turned out the best for her, once she became a BABYMETAL member. : )

Yeah I never understood what the person who made the video meant by that.
I'm just speculating here, but I'd guess that the guy making the video isn't very familiar with South Korean survival shows.
The fact Momoko played the kazoo in her presentation (amongst other things) doesn't mean she wasn't serious about the competition.
Trainees and contestants rely on gimmicks all the time. Seriously, watch any survival show and you'll notice how at the beginning they all try their hardest to stand out and show off their quirks, usually relying on humor and absurdity.

@@jimnusbaum3589 Well, the joke didn't land (probably because of the AI voice).
The guy must be aware of this because he cut out of the video another joke that was creating tons of confusion.
