Thanks for all your comments Always appreciate them After my next repair video which should be on this week I’d love to visit Australia Ollie welcome to come over 😁👍👍
Hello from beautiful Senoia, Georgia, US of A! I am watching this again on Sept 25, 2024 at 2:04 AM, as I cannot sleep. Always enjoy your videos, Jem! I had forgotten this one & kind of reminds me of a grave, with the huge stone slab & deep hole.
Jem your knowledge of trees and bushes is amazing I learn something new every time I watch the videos keep up the great work not too many businesses have as much integrity as your company. 👍🏻
It’s a good service call when you use more garden tools than plumber’s tools! Almost like you need a gardener as a helper that time! Plumber’s greetings from the states gents, keep up the good fight.
Some hydroponics going on there Jem! Great job on that flag stone, must be 60 kgs plus. 🏋♂️💪. You earned your tea that night. Thanks for sharing and stay safe all.
Because of this channel I now flush my empty toilet a few times each day. Tomorrow I’m moving my large bushes that I have planted around drains 🙂. Who knew 💩 could be so entertaining 👍
7:42 - What is the purpose of those plugs / lids? And what is the purpose of the extra hole above the outlet hole? Last time I checked my drains I noticed I had one and wondered if it was there by mistake. Like someone dropped a clay pot lid in my inspection point. 😂
I don't know about you guys but I keep a blunt edge on my shovels - it does a better job on the roots but doesn't ding up as easily as a sharp edge. I do have one that I keep sharp for roots. Good job cleaning that mess up.
Tank of water the van, feeds an engine driven pump (this ones a piston pump so works quite like an engine also) which pressurises the water and sends it down the hose, this exits through the jet head which has nozzles facing backwards for forward propulsion and sometimes a front nozzle for cutting through the blockage. Check superjet or jetter conversions websites for better info. (No endorsement or promotion there are other top brands available, just the first names that came to me)
I didn’t even realize there was brick behind the roots. I was thinking in the beginning why do they just have dirt ? Lol. I was helping you pull it. Lol
I am watching videos old to new, so this may be something you have corrected since this video, but I have noticed your jetter a few times now having the unloader hang dead heading your pump. Maybe I will see its been fixed as I work through the videos, maybe not....we shall see. This is VERY hard on the pump internals. Nice one on this video, heck of a root ball in this one.
Those were some Insane roots!! 😱 They nested right in! 4:30 was a great camera angle of them. ⛏️ So glad I came across your channeI! I subscribed last week. I really enjoy your commentary, unfortunately much of the time it's hard to hear what you are saying. Maybe a different mic or setup would improve on that.
4:13 When you get big thick tap roots like that it might be worth investing in some tree branch clippers. It will give the tree or bush a cleaner cut on the root and it also means alot less work for yourself instead of hacking away at it. Probrably would have suggested to your client to move the shrubs away from the man hole cover so the roots dont keep finding there way down the drain. Great work by the way :)
Didn't get a hernia after moving that stone did you Jem? "Come Jem give it a good yank" That root is a fine workout. Battery needed a break to recharge. Whoa what a mighty humongous root. Thanks Jem
Hey Guys, over here in the States we dont have the same setup.... so forgive the lack of knowledge..... what is the purpose of the 2nd opening right above the main outlet in the manhole?? (I assume that where that round cover came from, which is even more confusing)
The main outlet from the channel drops into a U trap to keep sewer gases from the mains getting out. These days you can jet or cable through a U trap with a bit of a fight, but when you are using rigid rods, there is no way to clear the blockage from the downstream side of the trap except from coming up from the mains. In bigger mains, that means climbing into deep manholes and walking up deep culverts to find the exit from the property line. So they put the rodding eye above the U trap with a sealed cover on it. If the blockage is beyond the U trap, you pull open the rodding eye, shove your rods into the downstream pipe and clear it out. The cover is supposed to go back to seal the system again.
@@brucetheloon spot on, I think they are known as a Interceptor trap, from the Victorian era ( still used well after), my house has one, 3 other houses run into it as well, my house dates from 1936. There are a pain in the bum, the U trap always catching stuff. Originally there was a vent pipe ( just above ground level), thankfully replaced by a house height stench pipe. 👍
I was in Liverpool on Monday and Tuesday this week to see Genesis at the m+s bank arena. I did seriously consider dropping off some cakes as a thank you for the entertainment but it’s seemed a bit weird to turn up like that.
It’s used to clear the last leg of the pipe, the bottom hole goes to a U bend and the top is like a rodding eye. So the interceptor is equivalent to a big gulley limits the smell from the main drain, as some older properties wouldn’t have had sink U bends and gulley traps. Now every property should have U bends and traps so the interceptor isn’t of much use, so that’s why he can remove the cap, because the smell won’t get into the building anyway. (Hope that makes sense).
@Nicky L thats probably true. I was thinking with leaks and all that the cold would make it down to that level. I live in a subtropical climate, so literal freezing temps are rare...
That cap is supposed to prevent sewer gases from filling the manhole and smelling. I noticed some were missing. That'd be a code violation here in the U.S.. Are those caps able to seal gas tight? May not be a thing over there.
It always amazes me how tree and bush roots seem to always "seek out" pipes and manholes, as if the plants somehow KNOW that there's water flowing inside the pipe. And it's like not only do they have some sort of inherent knowledge of this, once those first roots break through and find the water it's almost as if they communicate this discovery to all the plants around cos they then ALL go for the same pipe or manhole. Makes me wonder if plants do indeed have some kind of rudimentary intelligence and ability to "think", but it's SO different to how our brains are organized and work that we don't yet have the capability to understand and/or detect how it's being done. I mean, we already know they DO have a way of basic communication with each other and other life forms in the way of chemicals (the smell of fresh cut grass is actually a chemical signal to certain insects that there is likely yummy prey currently trying to eat the plant, and come eat them and rescue us!!).
Nice to see how much Jem is into genealogy. He's always going back to his roots.
He likes to branch out lol

Lol I loved being in the drain 🙃
cant really blame the plants when they find a good source of water and fertilizer. Just glad it keeps Jem and the gang in business
👍👍
Loving your little comments Jenny. Let's have more from Jetter Control x
It looked like the opening of Tutankhamun's tomb.
A good preventive maintenance every year would avoid those sudden blockages for sure.
I felt like I was gonna see Ratty and Croc on this one with all those roots
