She had everything the skills, artistry, jumps, spins, athleticism and just pure grace. I cried watching this live. Skating with any injury is tough and with so much pressure, I believed she showed what grace under pressure truly is. Definitely my favorite female skater of all time.
The fact that she fell and how it makes our heart break while watching her fall, ironically makes this program so much more dramatic and epic. It somehow captures the tragic love of Romeo and Juliet so well . Til this day, I come back to watch this masterpiece.
Having read her autobiography, I can say with complete knowledge and no doubt that this is (in my opinion) the most inspiring performance in Olympic history.
I looked forward to watching this skate all day after enjoying her short program the night before. I put on my pajamas, made popcorn and got into positioning. My heart sunk (and broke) when she missed the two jumps. It was hard to watch the rest. The music is so mournful. I’ve watched it many times since and still feel that way a little but the rest of the performance is so breathtaking it’s worth it.
It was bittersweet watching this performance. I wish she didn't have those 2 falls, but at the same time, she said in an interview that she knew she had to skate the rest of the program strong after the mistakes. I believe that had she not fallen, we might not have been able to witness selling the rest of her program so beautifully. It's too bad she can rarely hit both programs in one competition, she would've almost undoubtedly be the Olympic champion had she did. She always had great spirals, but the ones she did here were absolutely breathtaking 💜
love her!!!! Lost my breath in the beginning and then lost it agian at the end my all time favorite performance. The way she pulled herself together and gave such a beautiful performance such that you didn't even remember the fails just how great the rest of it was.
She's the best out there... She outshines all... no one can skate as graceful and as captivating as she can... The lady is right... She IS Juliet... I love you, Sasha... You're still the winner for me...
She didn’t deserve the gold for the 2 falls, but yes, the exquisite rest of her program makes it all worth it to an extent. Her and Katarina Witt both play the character in their programs so well, Katarina WAS Carmen, and Sasha IS Juliet, so even if they don’t win, they still steal the show
Quads are impressive, but I miss the stronger emphasis on the musicality and artistic expression of these earlier days. And Sasha's grace and exquisite spiral sequences will always be iconic.
@@valmacclinchy Oh for sure. I was talking about Alina Zagitova who was absolutely beautiful even though no quads. Even comparing Alina to the original skaters is mindblowing in the difference.
Such grit and determination after burying herself in the first two jumping passes. Usually, a skater's program falls apart after such technical difficulties. To have kept it together is a quality lacking in such skaters as Debi Thomas and Caryn Kadevy. Debi would at least fight, though unsuccessfully, whereas Kadevy doubled everything. Sasha should have been so proud of herself for what she was able to accomplish here. I don't think Sasha was Juliet at all here. This program's tragic opening had a happy ending. Remember, she skated this with a groin injury. After the adrenaline kicked in, there was no stopping her.
I just knew from the look in her eyes at the boards that she wasn't going to skate clean. That and the injury she had but i really think it was nerves that did her in not the injury. Still she had great fight to keep going and land the rest of her jumps. Oh what could have been.
This was so heartbreaking to watch and I've always dreaded watching her performances. She's a fantastic SP skater, but the only perfect LP that I've seen from her is when she did her Swan Lake program at Marshalls in 2004.
I hated that Sasha lost the gold here. While I can deny she make mistakes here, it was just another disappointment that she didn't skate well. She had it all and could have been everyone. It just didn't work out for her . . . . again!

I'm still heartbroken over this. It's so haunting to watch again.

I've got to read her autobiography..Sasha is amazing. ❤
Wow. Really? You’ve really missed some inspiring Olympics. Sasha is fierce but her first jumping passes were fails.
@@MADHAUSMARKALLANand the rest of her program is an artistic marvel! ❤

When has Sasha ever skated a clean LP?
@@onetwocuethere are several videos on UA-cam of her clean LPs, probably the most notable being Marshall's Swan Lake
@@valmacclinchy That Swan Lake is phenomenal. I wish I could see it without Dick Buttons prattling on about all the specifics of each element

If Sasha had been consistent with her jumps (and fixed the flutz) she would have been unbeatable, everything else is absolute perfection
Such talent and how brave to put yourself out there no matter what. Wow. I would rather have that program and guts than the perfect program. Gorgeous.
She will be rembered more for this program than the gold medal winners program

I saw her skating in Italy during last Golden Skate Awards...just amazing...she is a great skater!!!
I miss Sasha, please come back!
She is one of the most beautiful skater.. heartbreaking
Love her ❤️
Best program ever despite 🎉 falls

I still remember watching this and now seeing how talented figure skaters are it's crazy how much the sport has advanced in just 15 years...

@@ania5038 I also love Mariah Bell who just retired, and there are a few competing currently who are artistic and become one with the music.
@@valmacclinchy She looks like Sasha lol
@@ania5038 yes. I look forward to watching skating this week, I'm recording it on my TV. Have you seen Isabeau Levito? I think she's promising..
@cboy4
after the first 2 mistakes it's all good... it's so good that you even forget that she made mistakes in the beginning of the program!!
Sasha falls on her triple lutz.

@neveradullmoment6 I agree too, but do you think she would be good match for YUNA KIM, who won gold at 2010 winter olympics?

Best Swan Lake ever!
None Lovelier!
Arrogance caught up with her . She will be remembered as the skater that choked in major competitions

She didn't have it all...because consistency is part of "having it all."
She got robbed
