    I think every single human being using the Eruptor would rather have the shrapnel friendly fire occasionally kill them. The ability for the shrapnel to one-tap big enemies was its MAIN FUCKING FEATURE.

      Exactly, the only time I every died to it was when I was taking a sketchy shot too close to myself, it didn’t seem like a bug, lots of weapons kill you if used at close range.

      i main the thing and i’ve had it kill me twice with the shrapnel bug, both times I was fully aware I was probably gonna die anyway to the explosion. It was weird but not nerf worthy. my question is who was smoking crack when they decided to make ricochets auto headshot the original shooter? absurd decision

      It's such a meme feature that just adds annoying random instant kills to the formula, which in turn makes balancing the enemies impossible since they can be both completely useless or insanely lethal based on nothing but dicerolls (Especially for the bots).

      ​@@BackwardsPancakerandom headshots are the reason, I'm so glad I can finally use the shield now with my primary. The shield pretty much negates getting randomly heatshotted. I definitely feel you on that headshots can be very frustrating because often times you feel like not having control over the game.

    The devs heard four people complain that they died from shrapnel, so they completely butchered one of the most unique guns in the game. Now, it is basically unusable.

      Yeah, i'm in the same boat as you, looking around with people plain lying about the eruptor killing them and having the shrapnel bounce back at them, this is simply not a thing and never was. I have mained the eruptor since i unlocked it and over 100 games, i never killed anyone or myself any other way than by getting hit by the explosion radius or back when it sucked you in the balst and then shredded by bugs or automatons.

      ​​@@nopenope8418you're wrong. I watched the shrapnel do exactly that multiple times in the defense missions. Everyone standing around the second gate firing at the first 2 gates, shot at a group incoming and slapped my mate. Twice in the same day too. Never against myself though. Until the ricochet update at least. Something went on there which made the shrapnel actually hit myself. And accidental firing at the floor from being damaged or not switching weapon when I thought I did, would never kill myself. Because the explosion was too weak to do it. Until the update!
      And now there's no shrapnel it's just plain shit. I would rather the chance of accidentals than this

      @@nopenope8418I never noticed it because I use the shield backpack but after it got destroyed CONSTANTLY because of the shrapnel I just shrugged it off because I thought it was just a glitch that only affects the shield pack. That was until I got killed by it two days ago. Instant kill after I shot at the ground by a charger about 10-20m away

      some parts of the community are as stupid as the devs are. Too busy boot licking to actually think and look in order to understand the terrible state of the game balance. I love the game but when it comes to balancing the devs dont have any clue what theyre doing and are absolutely terrible at it. The people who point that out and know what theyre talking about are then told "skill issue" even though it is a legitimate problem. The community is full of boot lickers and toxic assholes that think all because they can do helldive theyre the top shit. Helldive isnt even that hard. Especially considering alot of the people who say "skill issue" are the same people who dont play above difficulty 5 and even there theyre that one teammate who is eating away at your reinforcements.

      @@nopenope8418 shrapnel does kill if you close enough. I started killing myself a lot after the buff to ricochet damage, so not sure if that was the issue

    Twinbeard mentioned in discord that they know it's jacked up, so hopefully we can get it back to the same damage breakpoints soon. With this in its current state, if it wasn't for the Dominator and the Blitzer being viable you'd not be blamed for saying they crap on the previous warbond as the new one drops lol. Here's hoping they do the right thing

      I'm so sick of them saying that their weapons aren't working as intended. Like, wait to put it out then. I'd forgive it if it was only once or twice, but it's literally every patch. And then when they "fix" the issue it's either negligible, or attached to a nerf. Every premium warbond weapon should be good at the very least.

      I always feel like it'll get knocked down for being overly used by the community, or ruined by a bug they introduced trying to accomplish something else.

    The Eruptor had a lot, and I mean, A LOT of downsides but it used to be really valuable in what it did well, now the weapon is just bad. If you want a weapon that can close holes, just bring the grenade launcher secondary and any other weapon as main weapon. RIP Eruptor, for me it was a really fun weapon.

      It was a fun month. But i guess you just have to find something fun for 3-4 weeks before Alexus fucks everything up and makes the melee function the only unscrewed thing on the gun. Seriously, that guys name needs to become infamous with every patch so the dev team knows EXACTLY who's fucking shit up.

      ​@@Gundolf300I've read complaints that people have been getting killed by the shrapnel ricochet from 25 meters and beyond. I think the shrapnel is traveling much further then it should on ricochets and deals way more damage than the Devs know.

      Some of the stuff that makes it through definitely seems odd. Like either the team is pushing updates and they just aren't leaving enough time to thoroughly playtest them or something like that.
      I don't mind it so much, as long as they are openly communicating changes and letting the community know when they are aware of bugs, but it can definitely be a headache.

    Hope the eruptor gets the shrapnel back eventually. Just a unique option to play with, I enjoyed it. Now it is just a bland weapon really, that also handles like absolute shit, but I still like the utility it offers. Opens container doors, bug holes, etc. I like to pair it with the arc thrower.

      this is most likely the very first time that the weapon is "working as intended". So far, all the damage addition from the shrapnel are unintended and spiked the damage which made the weapon appear decent. Now it's working but suffering from low dmg potential.

      I feel like the nerfs of the shrapnel and explosion damage falloff from last patch were ment to be more like "patches" since the shrapnel didn't really do what was intended.
      The eruptor user probably wouldn't know but the shrapnel used to kill teammates everywhere. I really hope for you guys they rework the shrapnel and make the weapon work again though.

    I think the problem was the devs, at least according to the CM, were not aware of why the gun was strong. They stated, "we're removing shrapnel, but this will only have a marginal effect on damage". However, as a Eruptor main, I know that the shrapnel was the #1 contributor to kills on the gun. The explosive effect is _minor_ compared to how what the shrapnel was doing, because it provided a chunk of the damage, and had _far_ more range than the explosive AoE. What at least partially balanced the shrapnel was its inconsistency in direction. Sometimes I broke a charger butt in 3-4 hits, very rarely I broke them in 1, just depended on the shrapnel and shot placement.
    So, the fact they thought that removing shrapnel and replacing it with _40_ explosive damage, on an already nerfed AoE range, would be anywhere near as effective is telling that they didn't understand what made the gun good. Its very possible shrapnel was bugged and overperforming, given their comments _assuming_ it was marginal, but it speaks to the fact they nerfed a gun they didn't understand, which is disappointing.
    EDIT: So from a dev directly, the shrapnel was working too well against chargers and causing the ability to 1-shot, they called it an exploit because players could get it to do "100-1000 damage sometimes". I do agree that is bad and it shouldn't have been able to 1-shot heavies like that, but it still should be able to 1-shot mediums at the very least. Add-in, the shrapnel is what made it _distinct_ , doesn't matter if it was inconsistent, it was a fun part of the gun's identity. Now it just feels like any other GL or even the scorcher, but worse. It has neither the AoE for groups of spuds nor direct damage to mediums to justify the RoF. I'm hoping whatever buff they have in mind at least moves it up to be able to _direct damage_ 1-shot mediums, but it's kinda lost its identity even if it claws back some of the functionality.

      Don’t forget there were a lot of people screaming because of shrapnel ricochets with demands of “Do something now!” And I suspect this patch would have been tested more…. If a certain something didn’t happen last week and ended up distracting the entire company.

      Saddest thing is... It took 1 game to feel how bad Eruptor. Geez you would need 10 mins of playtime to realize something is wrong. If Option A: They nerfed it intentionally is wrong according CM... Leaves us with Option B: They didn't even bother to test it. Which is just sad.

      Yep, the stagger was also what made the slugger the SLUGGER. Now that it's gone. It's a shotgun with no attribute. The shrapnel was what made the ERUPTOR viable.

    They removed the shrapnel because it was killing players due to THEIR changes to the way ricochets work. They screwed it up in the first place, so instead of trying to fix the issue, they just remove what made the weapon unique and basically made it useless.

    I called this a week ago; Eruptor was great because you could exploit its shrapnel mechanic to focus its AoE damage onto a single target. A token damage buff just doesn't compare.

    I main the eruptor on my team. I'm the guy that kills the big stuff while the team manages the rest. I've been struggling hard since the change. I can't kill chargers effectively, bile titans are basically untouchable, and the fact that i can't headshot the mediums . . . I'm gonna have to figure out a different loadout. Goodbye eruptor, it was fun while it lasted

      @@berserkerpride Plasma shotgun doesn't do much though, the damage is quite low, it is still hard to land headshots and the ammo count is bad, it is at best an average weapon.

    RIP to my favorite weapon. Why the fuck would they remove the shrapnel lol it's literally the ONLY thing that kept the weapon viable at higher difficulties because you could still wave clear with it, I once got 22 kills in 2 bullets like that's a GOOD weapon. Removing the shrapnel and increasing the explosion damage does what exactly if it still can't damage heavy armor??? Like what IS the point of this change???
    I have a fix, leave it as is, and make it do heavy armor pen. Boom it's a viable weapon again. With the ergonomics and it being so slow to not even reload but just to shoot, they NEED something to offset the negatives, right now there's nothing positive about the weapon aside from it being able to close bug holes and bot fabs but people run the grenade pistol for that already anyways.

      @@Raiden08110 Yeah fixing the spear bug? Or the fire DoT? Nah spend more time tweaking fire damage over multiple patches and nerfing a bunch of weapons instead. They must have no QA at all. I mean the mech is still broken ever since the "rocket fix", can't aim at the crosshair and the rockets don't do the damage they're supposed to.

    I was using eruptor with stalwart in combination with guard rover, EAT and 500kg, loved the build very much, eruptor used to one-shot brood commanders and hiveguards if you managed to hit the ground right in front of them. Now it cannot even consistantly 2-shot hiveguards, it feels terribly sad

    Hey, new player here. Loved your video - ESPECIALLY the part where you reinforced on top of a hellbomb - that was hilarious! But, the best tip I learned from you? An ideal loadout isn't mandatory. Obviously, I'm not playing solo helldive difficulty, so I have more margin of safety. But now I'm encouraged to just try everything and find what is most fun, and THEN find out how to make it most effective. You rock :)

    I'm glad they have acknowledged this change may have been stupid. While the damage is good, the AOE and shrapnel was the WHOLE reason to choose this weapon despite its low mag count and slow chambering between shots. I also never had trouble with shrapnel killing me or team (thats a skill issue when using an explosive rpg with serious armor pen).

    It's not nerfed, it's literally bugged. Like most things. It's not intended to be that bad and they are working on it (a real statement from them)
    How are they supposed to have a warbond each month and expect A) enough interesting weapons in each one and B) to be able to balance everything...?

      Many people are still in euphoria thinking the devs are gods for fending off the psn issue. It will take possibly take 2-3 more patches before the psn copium wears off and people will go back to complaining about dog shit patches.

    It used to one tap stalkers and now I just shot one four times and it lived, even though they upped the damage. Either I'm tripping or the shrapnel did crazy amounts of damage to bugs and now it doesn't because the shrapnel is gone

    I was pretty confident this would be a nerf. The way they talked about the shrapnel had me SUPER skeptical. But I was like, it ain't my game, maybe they got more insight into this than I do and it'll pan out. But I sort of really suspected it would be kind of crap after the change.

      I was 100% sure it would be a nerf... they basically made a gun that shot explosive projectiles to a gun that shoots plastic bubble pops, they cut the magazine to half for a gun that now needs thrice the ammo to kill what used to kill, gutted it and then shat on it.

      @@Tamachii12 When they cut the ammo it was understandable. It still has the shrapnel and honestly has absolutely insane ammo efficiency considering you could take out huge clusters of enemies with a single shot.
      Now its not great. Its ammo efficiency are abysmal ergonomics aren't justified anymore by its current performance. All we can do is wait and see if they do seeing as how they've noticed several bugs related to it.
      Bug fixes are the real buffs as the incendiary breaker can testify.

    I’m a newer player and I’ve been using the Eruptor purely as a pairing for the Flamethrower, mainly so I can pop bug holes and kill bile/nursing spewers at a distance. Not playing solo though, and usually everybody else is bringing EATs and Quasars even before I pick the flamer.

    I (used to) main this gun, if the ergonomics are really a problem for you try the enj. kit armor, that improves accuracy. It works well for this gun.

      HMG is still terrible even if you fix the aim, low magazine count, terrible handling and atrocious reload time, i pick it sometimes just because i feel the need to punish myself.

      They don't hate build diversity and they don't enforce a meta.
      The quasar was blatantly op and I called that nerf a long time ago.
      In fact, I was sure it would be bigger.
      The eruptor is currently not working as intended and I didn't think it was particularly great anyway even before this patch.
      The ammo nerf made sense but its current state is broken, I think they planned to have the explosion radius big enough that it would compensate not having the shrapnel, or something like that.

    5:35 Eruptor needs the Rover as a backpack companion for the trash. You basically use the Eruptor as a run and gun, because you can rely on your reticle to instantly turn around and hit stuff.
    It could also 1 shot all medium units by bouncing underneath them (really good against spewers in this case)

    Hi takibo, are you able to adjust the frequency of ads in these longer videos? Two minutes in, I had already three ad breaks: 1 right before the video started, then once every full minute. These constant interruptions make it really hard (for my stupid brain atleast) to follow what you are saying. I am asking because I feel that this overwhelming amount of ads is not normal for every video I watch in youtube. But anyway thank you for the great content on Helldivers 2!

    I think they said they were removing the shrapnel and buffing the damage radius of the explosion itself, but they've said it's not working as intended.
    I think the shrapnel made it kind of unique and they shouldn't change that.
    But I've always hated it, my least favorite of the explosive warbond weapons, right next to the thermite.
    And personally I like to run low/no anti-heavy, even diff 9 solo.
    It's just my style.

    The Eruptor may need a bit of tuning after the change, but it is still fine with duo focusing on closing bug hole and medium.
    Although I do like how high risk high reward it was.
    I hope they make their weapon more unique, even it may make it kinda don't work in Solo play, or super destructive that basically guarantee couple TK in big team fight.
    This whole balancing is rushed out simply because player keep killing themselves and complaint about it.
    Guess this is what we get until they got more data and found a better way to make it better.

    Stalwart is good for low level and teamplay, but in helldive i would bring the mg-43 and use it with the lowest fire rate.

    I always used the eruptor along with the arc. It’s mainly a bug hole closer for me, so there’s no difference there. I did like being able to blow up bile spewers or a small group of enemies from mega distance though. I don’t really know why they’ve done this.

    Removing shrapnel would only work if it could penetrate to damage titans and chargers with reasonable result like 2 headshot charger, as main weapon with such feature it could work then you use one of MGs as normal clearing weapon... I mean we can one shot chargers with infinite ammo quasar... BTW why railgun is still so long to reload? Within 2min we can use 2 500kg bombs...

    I don't understand why they try to kill the unique quirks of each weapon. Eruptor had the shrapnel - removed it. Arc thrower stunned hulks - removed it. It's not that the weapons were overpowered or unbalanced, the pros were highly situational and you had to balance the cons.

    6:08 The Eruptor used to be great for chargers. If you placed the shot correctly you could take them out with 1-2 shots. Now it's around 7-8 shots with the new change..

    Can you test the precision orbital. I've been getting wildly inconsistent strikes. They are way off in some cases, so I just stopped taking it.

      A lot of the planets in the current MO have Orbital fluctiations, which makes the OPS way less accurate. Most of the operations I have seen I can't bring the OPS because of that modifier, or the one where the call in time is increased by 50%. It's a really fun strike, but there are just too many modifiers that ruin it.

      you also have to take into account which part of the map you are in, if you are near the edge then the shot will be slanted, iirc its supposed to come from the center of the map.

    Yeah i ran it after the update because it used to be the best for dealing with spewers, but now it takes 4 shots to kill them used to kill hive gaurds in 1 shot now it take 3-4 and with the limited ammo not worth anything now.

    I waited 3 weeks for the DD warbond and still got screwed with all the balances, I’m gonna stop buying warbonds if all they seem to want to do is nerf all the guns they come with and the “it’s not working as intended” should be on the back of the damn box at this point

      I can't even begin to understand their philosophy here. I haven't paid for a single warbond thanks to relatively easy farming, but I know that plenty of people do pay. And I have at least paid with my time. Because of this, the premium warbond weapons should good at the very least, preferably great. I should want to pay money for them, instead of paying money and ending up disappointed.

      Grenade pistol is untouched.
      Crossbow got a top down rebalance, nerfed in explosion radius and ammo while buffed in stagger, range and projectile speed.
      Erruptor got a ammo nerf and a rebalance that ended up as a complete failure.
      1/4. 2/4 if you want consider the crossbow rebalance a nerf (it’s so much better as a medium support weapon now instead of only trash clear).
      And that’s only 1 warbond. First warbond had all 4 weapons buffed, the second warbond had 3/4 of the weapons buffed.
      9/12 buffed. The idea of all warbond weapons being nerfed is literally just user bias.

      this isnt true. the post you are referring to is in regards to shrapnel, not the eruptor. head of balancing has confirmed its current state is working as intended and will most likely not receive any buffs (but we'll see how long that lasts with community backlash)

    I thought they buffed it. It was all fun and games until it took 3 good hits for a brood commander. I was like huh! 🤔 It takes a long time to aim, turn and reload. At least it had a rewarding factor of one-two shotting small to medium enemies. Have to change my whole load out until they fix.

      Basically, they removed the shrapnel from the Eruptor while buffing the damage of its explosion by 40, but it does nowhere near enough damage to make up up for this change.

    I used only eruptor since it came out because its fun. I'll never get why people complain about its friendly damage. JUST BE CAREFUL. It's not hard to watch where you shoot and I only blew up my friend once from a reallllllly unlucky shrapnel spread in like 20 hours of play time. The shrapnel aoe the biggest (and probably the only worthwhile) selling point to a gun that is otherwise very subpar in terms of dps and handling. The gun's strength is in its AoE in higher difficulties, if you take 90% of that away there's no reason to use it
