  • This free tutorial from the confined space training professionals at confinedspacetraining.net addresses the OSHA definition of a confined space. Understanding this definition is the first step toward determining if any spaces at your workplace are considered a permit-required confined space. The three criteria in OSHA's definition of a confined space (able to bodily enter; limit means of entry or exit; not designed for continuous occupancy) are discussed in detail, and several examples of confined spaces are provided. Free for employers to use for worker training, and non-profit safety organizations to share with their members, compliments of OSHA Training Services Inc. This video cannot be sold nor used to train for profit. Visit our website at confinedspacetraining.net for more confined space training resources for general industry.

    Very informative video. I live in country were equivalent of OHSA does not clearly explain about such places. In my old tenements building attic place was confined space therefore administration ordered to remove any things storaged there and made it open area for safe enter by chimney-sweep or mechanics to work on roof. Also in barge once I broke a leg on tight stairs during work, they shouldn't allow to use such stairs (it was a café and music club on a barge).

    Had a boss that argued with me that the dry well of a fairly deep lift station wasn't a confined space because it had stairs out of it. I kept saying spiral stairs don't count. Of course he also tired using the rescue tripod to lift a pump out of the pit and didn't understand why it didnt go back down after activating the handle. Glad I am out of that place.

      You are correct - spiral stairs do not count, means they are a restricted means of entry/egress, therefore it is a confined space

      The stated purpose of this free online tutorial is strictly for identifying confined spaces. As explained in the tutorial, once you identify your confined spaces, you must take additional steps to determine which, if any, are permit required. To do that, you can refer to the OSHA confined spaces standard (1910.146), or you can learn how to t=identify permit spaces by taking our comprehensive online confined spaces course available at www.oshatraining.com/online-confined-space-entry-training-course.php . Best wishes.

    what is the minimum dept of confind space?(Just for learning)

    • @jeremygaiser4407
      @jeremygaiser4407 9 років тому +4

      hamid ali khan There is no minimum depth. you must look at all circumstances. Example: employees must work under a truck scale (used for weighing freight trucks). the scale is almost at surface level, but has an underbelly that is 3 feet deep. This space is not designed for human occupancy, had limited means of access/egress, and can be "bodily entered" by workers. This would classify it as a confined space.

    4 FEET DEEP OR MORE EXCAVATION AS DEPTH IS CONCERNED BUT NOT SPECIFIC ACCORDING TO CONDITION
