    Good work, you proved not only victim's life is important but also rescuers safety. the bitter fact is more than 50% victims are rescuers in real time scenarios of confined space emergencies. fast is fine but hurry may kill you.

    Good demo. Few items that I noted. No helmet. This is a must for any rescue. Get Petzl Vertex helmets that have chin straps and don't fall off. Good use of two winches one a s primary and other as secondary. The SKED needs to be used with both head and leg straps and not as shown here. If doing vertical lift you need to use the rope supplied. SKED can be pre-rigged outside of rescue by other personal. Good quick response.

    I did like the video, it had a few issues, already mentioned, and for most of us watching we understand if someone were in the victims position they would probably have already bled out. I think that as part of the operation of this rescue scenario the rescuer's could have provided first aid to stop the fictitious bleeding, there was no communication with the victim in this incident, regardless of whether this individual is conscious positive outcome scenarios, should have been verbalized in the operation. The area where the retrieval system was set up was a little to busy, while the rescuer's are in motion whoever might be the top man should definitely be taking up the slack in their safety lines, and the are where they first reached the victim, they moved the ladder out of the way but not far enough which could have caused an injury to the rescuer. Pre-planning of this event should have included the rescuers establishing where they would be moving during this scenario so they would cross safety lines and end up tripping over each other. This is a good tool that I will use when addressing confined space rescue operations and pre-planning. Thank you to the makers of the video.

    I reckon the casualty died, A real Rescue team would have already had Harnesses on and BA powered up, entered confined space with Airline ( Assuming bad atmosphere) yet NO escape set for casualty so basically you just performed a body recovery

    • @psychokiller9824

      Possibly because the casualty is expected to be wearing one but wasn't here cuz its a dummy. But yes there is a possibility that the BA has malfunctioned although less likely.

    Thanks for sharing. Valid positive points listed. However, also noticed no gloves, no goggles, safety line was connected to the same anchor point. Also the stretcher lift could have been horizontal with an extra sling given there is no restricted egress vertically. Any equipment can be used in an emergency but more dedicated rescue kit would have been preferable. A safety ling would have been nice considering risk to patient. Helmets for rescue crew a must to prevent rescuer injury, and dedicated rope rescue helmets (such as Petzl) can be worn with Breathing Apparatus. Rope extrication was a little rushed and not controlled. Possible need to get medic to patient given lack of responsiveness lol. Good communication between crew. Good rescue strategy.

    Thanks for sharing. However, shouldn't all facial hair be removed below the upper lip if any respiratory equipment is being worn so that the rubber/silicone gasket seals properly to the skin?

    • @msssafety
      @msssafety  8 років тому

      AS1715:2009 App B2 gives very specific instruction (shall) only in reference to side burns. All other considerations relating to facial hair from a legislative or regulation perspective are 'should', 'may' etc. If I had been the team leader, i would have selected only personnel whose face masks were not potentially compromised in anyway. Given this was a practice of a new technique, with no atmosphere risk, the Team Leader assessed the situation, undertook successful mask leak tests before the BA team was deployed. But well spotted!!!! :)

You always don in fresh air and you never have BA on until ure at the entry and have had your pressure checked with your ECO and that's both rescuers going in

      Thanks! If you listen closely the BACO calks for a mask leak test and this is completed. The SCBA in this scenario was a precaution, not a requirement for the task. The boys did good for their very first run through of this scenario, but we can always do better!!!

    No Assessment of patient condition, injuries. Suspected # to legs initially. Full body compression onto injuries when lifted vertically. I appreciate moving the patient if time critical but this was not established to begin with. Also in this space KED and collar could have been used. No C-spine protection when moving patient. Again dependent on patient condition which is why rapid primary and secondary survey paramount

    Why wasn't a real patient used? Using a dummy is not heavy enough. There is no way two people would be able to move or carry a patient normally.

      "Dave", the rescue dummy used in this training scenario, is actually over 75 kilos.

    • @mr34
      @mr34 9 років тому +2

      The biggest problem is that by not having a real patient is that you are not practicing any patient care. You have no patient attendant during any manoeuvres. Therefore you get no patient feedback during the rescue. You may as well be lifting a tree limb out. Also the patient does not have any neck support and why are you using a pre-rigged winch? I don't mean to sound picky, but in our own Cave Rescue Squad (confined space rescue) we train as close as possible to real life situations including specific injuries, putting in anchors, running fresh air supplies and running communication lines throughout the cave.

      you are, of course, correct. This was a drill to test out the rescue plan. It was not a real rescue. It was the very first run through. No one in their right mind would suggest testing a new technique with a live human being, no matter how willing. Subsequent to testing and refining the rescue plans (which the client has created for almost every confined space location on site), further drills have been completed, using live humans.

    not a good drill, if that was a real man, and have any broken legs, etc. he would have bled out, and died before the rescuers were ready, 3 min 30 sec!! to "suit up" you need to get to the casualty quicker than that!! you need to re-title it, body recovery drill, NOT rescue drill.

    That yellow strap is to be used with the second strap (both are marked for head, foot). FOR HORIZONTAL LIFTS.
    The 3/8" static rope that comes with the SKEDCO has to be weaved into the product to do the vertical lift as was done.
