Most of the time in ground beef that’s not “grizzle” as in connective tissues its fat the best hamburger is made with 85\15 you can get connective tissues added in at specialty butchers but in general at the grocery store there isn’t very much in ground meat now if you look back at Jamie Oliver’s attack on “pink meat” this was actually horrible meat production but it did include all of the connective tissues ligaments tendons and the like processed with ammonia and hence died red pink.

1lb of regular ground beef with 6-10 XL eggs every day for a month during January lost 4lbs of fat and put on 2.1lbs of muscle. I'll take that every time.
Grass fed ground bison, and three pasture raised eggs as my morning omelet for months has changed my life for the better 😊
That’s amazing. Congrats. Btw, what would be considered regular? Are you talking 80% protein 20% fat? I’m wondering because I’m also trying to do a similar diet.
LOL, 2 lbs of muscle in one month... ABSURD!
Just make sure you eat 1 gram of protein per pound of body fat if you decide to gain muscle along with losing fat.
Moderate healthy fats and low carb. Or up your carbs a bit if you’re very active.
Once you get lean enough, then you can focus on bulking and cutting afterwards.
It’s funny how out of all the red meat, THIS ONE, ground meat was the one people told me to stay away from….
Gotta love this health system huh?
Thanks Thomas - 35 yrs ago I weighed 118lbs, had high cholesterol, I quit eating meat, saturated fat.
Started feeling lousy about 5 yrs ago. Pretty active, weighed 125lbs, diet mostly vegan. Then, a year and a half ago I ended up in the hospital, $25,000 later they could not find anything wrong. Started doing my own research online, found your channel and several others I grew to trust. Started 16/8 fasting, eating saturated fat again, closely monitoring carbs - feel better than I have in years. I actually had to pull back quite a bit on fasting because I got down to an unhealthy weight. I thank you for all your research and commitment to facts and accuracy, no hype.
That's incredible! How is your cholesterol now?
pro tip, mix a couple scoops of kimchi into your cooked ground meat near the end... saurekraut is good too - every once in awhile some horseraddish (pro and prebiotics, plus flavor)
Yum! Thanks!
How pro is the tip
As someone whose favorite form of consuming beef is in its ground form, I have to say I am elated by this video. Not only is ground beef nutritious and delicious, it has the added benefit of being relatively cheap. Thanks Thomas!
my go to food when i do keto and fasting with eggs.
But if you have chronic kidney disease, it's the worse source of protein to consume!
@@peterwho9380 Wake up Peter Who, this has been debunked for ages. Kidney damage isn't a result of a high protein diet, it's a result of excessive carbs for an extended period of time. High Carb consumption is typically from someone who doesn't exercise, has little muscle, and isn't eating enough protein to begin with. To THEN say protein will damage my kidneys, is commonplace but idiotic.
Well, let me break the news to you: science shows that beef is bad for you.
@@teddybearroosevelt1847meat in general is not very good for humans eggs are a much better option.
As a Caribbean American, I support this message. In my culture If you don't eat the gristle you're wasting the food!
it's not just the gristle, it's the tendon and connective tissue which pure animal muscle doesn't entirely provide. Having just returned from the Phillipines and SE Asia, they eat all sorts of internal organs, not just chicken breast and animal muscle. The true value of eating animal products isn't just the muscle, it's the connective tissue which ground beef or salisbury steak will contain in a digestible form.
@learn-when-you-stop-talking gristle, marrow, fish eye, cow foot, we don't waste food lol... I don't know enough about the Philippines to comment, but that's cool. You had a good experience. I spoke on my culture. My comment was a positive one.
@@LoveyourzAF Completely understood and agreed. in October 2023 I had a trip to South Africa and had stewed OxTail at a dinner---I didn't realize it was a delicacy and am glad I had 12 pieces (!) of it before it was all gone. Unfortunately, all the white/caucasian americans didn't try it because it looked foreign to them, but all the black-americans that attended likely ate it up. After my return home (to Canada), I told my south African friends, and they told me that it was expensive and considered a delicacy. And I found out it was $20-25cdn/pound here as it's in demand from so many cultures, including the caribbean. The bone marrow from the tail is what makes the broth so rich.
Then, one of my ZA friends told me that all her siblings moved to Australia, and there is so much cattle there, and so few people eating ox-tail, that all the Oxtail is piled up in the coolers for dog food, and her brother when having a BBQ, will go to the dog food mart and take as much ox-tail as he can, as so few people eat it there, and it's dirt cheap and considered "pet food".
Just because it's cheap, doesn't mean it isn't healthy. As an older person, I now understand that the true value of eating protein is in the connective tissue, as this is why vegetarians and esp. vegans are royally screwed.
(PS veganism is a first-world affliction. I was met with complete laughter in South Africa, Phillipines, Hong Kong Cambodia and Korea when I asked if there were any vegetarians around. )
@@learn-when-you-stop-talking love oxtails and yes it's an expensive delicacy... might be time to import from Australia.

I make every friday a 2 day portion chilli. Consisting of about 1lb ground beef(or turkey) 2 cans of kidney beans and 2 middle sized onions. Now here comes the game changer. To put more volume to your meal and a high amount of protein but almost no calories just add low fat cottage cheese. 200g of this stuff just add about 160kcal but about 30g of protein and you get a creamy texture for your meal. Eric Berg mentioned the benefits of ground beef quite a while ago as well. I buy grass fed ground organ meat and mix it with a 70/30 grass ground meat. Use local raw cheese and local raw honey on it as well as sauerkraut. I'm so blessed to live in PA. Where I get most of food from local Amish farmers. You can really feel the difference and it soooo easy not to eat crappy junk food or to even go to a restaurant at all. Cook your own food at home and you will be much healthier and save soooo much money. Folks it's time to go "Beyond Organic"
why 70/30? i use a 80/20 or higher..

I'm in Youngstown Ohio and I order from Your Family Cow in Pa, gotta pick up for raw milk but everything else gets shipped no problem. Everything is pasture raised corn and soy free feed. Draining the beef negates the benefits talked about in this video. Eat all of it.

Thank you Thomas Delaurier! I recently started eating ground beef again. I noticed my digestive system working better from it and how I felt. Reminded me of how much we had it growing up. Life changing advice for me!
This happened to me by accident. I would always switch to cheap ground beef whenever I was on a budget and it seemed like I was recovering better. As long as I drop my carbs because of the higher fats in cheap mince. I have actually discovered this was cheaper and better for my body. Also because I has lost my job and was on a very tight budget, that canned mackerel depending on what brand was also way cheaper and better then tuna. I basically get double the protein and more fats and nutrients for half the price. There are other cheap foods that I had no idea were much better for overall health and alot cheaper. I saw you talking about other foods on a couple of other videos and totally agree because of experience. Subscribing.
I love that he provides legit references to the information in his videos. Thank you for that.
Thomas, thank you for the work you do! ❤❤❤
Every time I go to Costco, I load up on their 1/3# frozen beef patties. Excellent quick way to get that ground beef into the diet. 12-13 minutes in the air fryer with a little salt & pepper is all you need. Good stuff!
Thanks for the tip! Gonna do that!
Grass fed too 💪🏽
What temp in the air fryer?
Yep air fryers the best I do it at 380 degrees 15 minutes flip once well done for me.
I wish I liked them as much as you do because of the convenience, but I go with the big packages of GB in their meat dept. Tastes much better to me.
Excellent info. Thanks for all you do Thomas!
Absolutely eye-opening. Thank you!!!
I’ll do you one better, ground beef shank. It’s really high in collagen and it’s super lean.
I have mine ground in a 20:1 ratio with beef liver. This allows me to eat 8oz a day and max out my vitamin a at the same time.
Btw, to keep u awake and alert if you tend to slow down after meals, even ground beef + eggs, one strategy - you opt for leaner ratio - could be to add up to 2 tablespoons of pure MCT oil/powder into the mix [beat into the eggs or just mixed directly into the g. beef…cayenne or chili powder too to add a nice thermogenic kick.
Love the shorter style videos with the killer info! Thanks Thomas.

An interesting factoid I discovered when I started my ground beef journey. From the butcher at Whole Foods: _Pastured Raised_ means raised on pasture but finished (fattened) on grains in a CAFO feedlot before slaughter. _100% Grass Fed_ means 100% summer pastured and winter hay foraged when required and no grains which gives a better fatty acid profile but maybe not a more flavorful and juicy (fatty) steak. Meat from cattle not fattened on grains is more expensive than so-called pasture raised which is more expensive than conventional intensive industrial-style raised cattle.
I love ground beef, I use 90/10. I eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Have you ever tried the 80/20? The fat is very beneficial to your body.

Love your videos and info. I’m 67 now, still exercising, but somewhat differently than 20 years ago. Was never a beef lover, but will now entertain the thought! Thanks!
I like to brown a pound (450g) of unsalted 80/20 Ground Chuck then add 2 cups of Reduced Sodium Chicken Broth & cook until it's almost gone to leave a little yummy sauce & this gives me about half teaspoon of Salt per pound of meat which I find perfectly seasoned.
Add a couple of over easy eggs to it in a bowl for more yummies.
Avoid low-sodium unless you have high blood pressure or already eat plenty of processed foods. I eat clean and used to be afraid of seasoning my food but, ever since I increased my sodium intake, I'm better hydrated, have more energy as a result and significantly reduced brain fog.

My new favorite ground meat dish is Larb! It is great with pork, chicken, lamb, or beef. It is sweet, savory, umami, sour, and spicy. Typically paired with lots of herbs and aromatics. It is also good cold. If you want carbs, serve it over rice, or serve it with julienne carrots and cucumber, don't forget the toasted rice powder. It is wonderful. Wow, not joking, but we bought half a grass-fed cow yesterday (350pounds) and because of a misunderstanding with the butcher, a good portion of it went into ground beef. Which I didn't mind, plus I still have all the other cuts, but the fact that you're uploading this video today is so perfectly fitting. Also, I recommend everyone to do this, whenever possible. The cost of the meat becomes very cheap, the quality is much better and your caveman brain is super satisfied.

It's a nonstarter for most people who have gout. Ruminant meat has a moderately high levels of purines, which can cause extreme swelling and pain in the joints. I did a 3-week experiment where I increased my intake of grass-fed, grass finished ground beef from a pound every 2 months to a pound a week. I made no other changes in my diet or activity levels. I’m still to find someone out there to do what I did and still doing to look ripped and average of at least 15 years younger at the age of 50 (as per other’s comments) with just natural food. It took me 18 months and it’s getting better. I’m confident enough to say that no one has ever done what I’ve done in a developed country. I’ve been asked to do a UA-cam channel, I’ve asked if I’m on instagram and other social media so I can be followed. I’ve been asked by others if they can train with me and to write a book but the most common question is what have I done to look the way I look. When I tell them few things they all say that mentally aren’t so strong to do it. I just say of course you can do it. It’s just about discipline, will power, and to be able to control your mind not to let your mind control you. If I was able to achieve it and still achieving, every single person out there can achieve too. It’s just mental.

I have seen several bright chiropractic/nutritionist people emphasize that it isn't just beef, but the kind that matters, and that grass finished, not just grass fed, is by far the best. Grass fed means they eat grass most of their life until months before they are fattened up to slaughter. Grass finished means 100% grass fed, for the life of the animal.

Thomas, thanks so much for your content. I have a follow up question. So should you go for the leanest ground beef or do you want something with a little more fat? Does that affect how much collagen is in the meat? Thanks!
Ground beef is great but it can get dry fairly easily. I do blade steaks in a sous vide and then sear them. It tastes like a ribeye and has lots of collagen as well.
Eat it with avocados. So good.
Been doing this for years now, grew up on Beef and veggies in NZ.
