      Most of the time in ground beef that’s not “grizzle” as in connective tissues its fat the best hamburger is made with 85\15 you can get connective tissues added in at specialty butchers but in general at the grocery store there isn’t very much in ground meat now if you look back at Jamie Oliver’s attack on “pink meat” this was actually horrible meat production but it did include all of the connective tissues ligaments tendons and the like processed with ammonia and hence died red pink.

      Just make sure you eat 1 gram of protein per pound of body fat if you decide to gain muscle along with losing fat.
      Moderate healthy fats and low carb. Or up your carbs a bit if you’re very active.
      Once you get lean enough, then you can focus on bulking and cutting afterwards.

    Thanks Thomas - 35 yrs ago I weighed 118lbs, had high cholesterol, I quit eating meat, saturated fat.
    Started feeling lousy about 5 yrs ago. Pretty active, weighed 125lbs, diet mostly vegan. Then, a year and a half ago I ended up in the hospital, $25,000 later they could not find anything wrong. Started doing my own research online, found your channel and several others I grew to trust. Started 16/8 fasting, eating saturated fat again, closely monitoring carbs - feel better than I have in years. I actually had to pull back quite a bit on fasting because I got down to an unhealthy weight. I thank you for all your research and commitment to facts and accuracy, no hype.

    • @learn-when-you-stop-talking
      @learn-when-you-stop-talking 3 місяці тому +17

      it's not just the gristle, it's the tendon and connective tissue which pure animal muscle doesn't entirely provide. Having just returned from the Phillipines and SE Asia, they eat all sorts of internal organs, not just chicken breast and animal muscle. The true value of eating animal products isn't just the muscle, it's the connective tissue which ground beef or salisbury steak will contain in a digestible form.

    • @LoveyourzAF
      @LoveyourzAF 3 місяці тому +17

      @learn-when-you-stop-talking 3 місяці тому +13

      @@LoveyourzAF Completely understood and agreed. in October 2023 I had a trip to South Africa and had stewed OxTail at a dinner---I didn't realize it was a delicacy and am glad I had 12 pieces (!) of it before it was all gone. Unfortunately, all the white/caucasian americans didn't try it because it looked foreign to them, but all the black-americans that attended likely ate it up. After my return home (to Canada), I told my south African friends, and they told me that it was expensive and considered a delicacy. And I found out it was $20-25cdn/pound here as it's in demand from so many cultures, including the caribbean. The bone marrow from the tail is what makes the broth so rich.
      Then, one of my ZA friends told me that all her siblings moved to Australia, and there is so much cattle there, and so few people eating ox-tail, that all the Oxtail is piled up in the coolers for dog food, and her brother when having a BBQ, will go to the dog food mart and take as much ox-tail as he can, as so few people eat it there, and it's dirt cheap and considered "pet food".
      Just because it's cheap, doesn't mean it isn't healthy. As an older person, I now understand that the true value of eating protein is in the connective tissue, as this is why vegetarians and esp. vegans are royally screwed.
      (PS veganism is a first-world affliction. I was met with complete laughter in South Africa, Phillipines, Hong Kong Cambodia and Korea when I asked if there were any vegetarians around. )

To put more volume to your meal and a high amount of protein but almost no calories just add low fat cottage cheese. 200g of this stuff just add about 160kcal but about 30g of protein and you get a creamy texture for your meal. As long as I drop my carbs because of the higher fats in cheap mince. I have actually discovered this was cheaper and better for my body. Also because I has lost my job and was on a very tight budget, that canned mackerel depending on what brand was also way cheaper and better then tuna. I basically get double the protein and more fats and nutrients for half the price. There are other cheap foods that I had no idea were much better for overall health and alot cheaper. An interesting factoid I discovered when I started my ground beef journey. From the butcher at Whole Foods: _Pastured Raised_ means raised on pasture but finished (fattened) on grains in a CAFO feedlot before slaughter. _100% Grass Fed_ means 100% summer pastured and winter hay foraged when required and no grains which gives a better fatty acid profile but maybe not a more flavorful and juicy (fatty) steak. Meat from cattle not fattened on grains is more expensive than so-called pasture raised which is more expensive than conventional intensive industrial-style raised cattle.

    I like to brown a pound (450g) of unsalted 80/20 Ground Chuck then add 2 cups of Reduced Sodium Chicken Broth & cook until it's almost gone to leave a little yummy sauce & this gives me about half teaspoon of Salt per pound of meat which I find perfectly seasoned.
    Add a couple of over easy eggs to it in a bowl for more yummies.

      Avoid low-sodium unless you have high blood pressure or already eat plenty of processed foods. I eat clean and used to be afraid of seasoning my food but, ever since I increased my sodium intake, I'm better hydrated, have more energy as a result and significantly reduced brain fog.

It is also good cold. If you want carbs, serve it over rice, or serve it with julienne carrots and cucumber, don't forget the toasted rice powder. It is wonderful. Wow, not joking, but we bought half a grass-fed cow yesterday (350pounds) and because of a misunderstanding with the butcher, a good portion of it went into ground beef. Which I didn't mind, plus I still have all the other cuts, but the fact that you're uploading this video today is so perfectly fitting. Also, I recommend everyone to do this, whenever possible. The cost of the meat becomes very cheap, the quality is much better and your caveman brain is super satisfied.

    It's a nonstarter for most people who have gout. Ruminant meat has a moderately high levels of purines, which can cause extreme swelling and pain in the joints. I did a 3-week experiment where I increased my intake of grass-fed, grass finished ground beef from a pound every 2 months to a pound a week. I made no other changes in my diet or activity levels. My left knee swelled like a grapefruit and the pain level in my knees, hips, and hands increased to at least 8 on a scale of 10. By 10 days after I quit eating the red meat (the only change I made), the swelling was gone and my pain levels were back to a scale of 1 or 2 out of 10. I didn't think I had gout, although it runs in my family. Now I know that is a possibility.

It took me 18 months and it’s getting better. I’m confident enough to say that no one has ever done what I’ve done in a developed country. I’ve been asked to do a UA-cam channel, I’ve asked if I’m on instagram and other social media so I can be followed. I’ve been asked by others if they can train with me and to write a book but the most common question is what have I done to look the way I look. When I tell them few things they all say that mentally aren’t so strong to do it. I just say of course you can do it. It’s just about discipline, will power, and to be able to control your mind not to let your mind control you. If I was able to achieve it and still achieving, every single person out there can achieve too. It’s just mental.

Grass fed means they eat grass most of their life until months before they are fattened up to slaughter. Grass finished means 100% grass fed, for the life of the animal.
