    Being from a family with an abuser I can attest the abuser can be super charming & even funny in front of others & in public. You come to cherish those good times & fear the trigger moments. The Dr.Jekyll/Mr.Hyde personality does exist. The threats with gun shots & holes in the wall can happen….
    It’s an emotional & psychological roller coaster life🎢

    This mans state of mind ? ? Married a very young woman within 2 weeks of meeting her? Shooting his gun into the ceiling. Punching a hole in the wall ? These are true anger issues.

    • @frsmith5069
      @frsmith5069 Місяць тому +5

      There are anger issues yes but no evidence he hit her. And what about her? She chose to marry this man after 12 days. Do we dismiss her actions as being an "emotionally vulnerable young woman"? He helped her pursue her dream to create a ballet company - she was getting what she wanted.
      Do we know how their marriage came about - was it her initiation or his? He just lost his wife recently, he was a veteran and very likely had PTSD from his service making his emotional state potentially more difficult to manage. His prior DV history could have been related to his service, but he didn't hit her at least there is no record introduced at this point as I understand. Her "vulnerable and naive" DV victim defense is still suspect at this point - at least for me.

      She's an easy read manipulator, I have zero clue how she's done this too. I'm glad I have sixth sense of reading people like I can...he may have anger issues, but that doesn't even come CLOSE to saying he was an abuser! You wanna hear some things I say after the Chicago Bears lose. Him doing the things he did do shows short fuse and he needs to vent in other ways, but does not mean he's an abuser. She's the type to say certain things to him, but SHOW or even tell others different, she probably had him wound tighter than a clock and then with finding some of this stuff out and/or realizing it to himself. Which made him unspin FAST. He needed to realize that and vent anger in other ways, absolutely, but that doesn't mean he's an abuser

      And we are frustrated by people who claim to be with an abusive partner, yet never call the police, or do anything to remove themselves from said situation. It must be very frustrating to be with a partner who will claim abuse just because they lost an argument, or had to take some personal accountability, or they are just not getting their way and what they demand.
      Equally, I am delighted that most don't understand. It would be a very sad world if they did, and seems to be an odd thing to call for.

    My best friend for a decade was well known for being the nicest, most selfless guy anyone knew. I had never seen him angry before-until we started dating & living together in our mid/late 20s. I trusted him soooo much & yet I saw this side of him that was an angry & bitter drunk threatening to k*ll himself every other day. I had never seen this side of him for 10 years, through all his worst & best times! I had been in an abusive relationship about 5 years prior, so it not only shocked me but scared the shit out of me very quickly. and I was in my the best personal well-being of my life. that came crashing down sooo fast.

    My ex left me for dead. I came up with the explanations we could give the doc for my injuries while on the way to the hospital. Afterwards there would be plenty of videos of me laughing with him, even having a nice time. That didn’t mean I wasn’t still scared of him, or that he wasn’t capable of killing me. Its called a mind fuck for a reason. Nothing about our behavior is going to be what you , who have never lived it, thinks it should. After I kicked my ex out, I still had him come over one night, and it was even nove seeing him. The next night I stayed up all night with his gun on my hip, terrified he was coming to kill me.
    Truly there is NO WAY to know if she is telling the truth, but there are things pointing to him being threatening. I was the first woman he ever hit, then one night beat me and left for dead. He was an “amazing” man.
    Abuse doesn’t have a one size fits all.

  • @Daybreaq
    @Daybreaq Місяць тому +43

    I recall in some high profile cases, lunch was provided to jurors because there was an instance where it was mentioned they requested better choices or something. For whatever reasons, jurors in this case go out to get their own lunches. Maybe that was a mistake if people in restaurants near the courthouse are talking about it. It seems to me to be an easily fixable problem: allow a delivery app or just have court employees go pick up “to go” orders to bring food orders to the jurors … and of course, I’m assuming jurors are provided a room or rooms to eat lunch.

    • @laurabrooks9688
      @laurabrooks9688 Місяць тому

      Jurors are usually only provided lunch if they are sequestered during the trial or if they have begun deliberations. I had to leave the courthouse to get my own lunch both times that I served, both federal and state. I only remember having access to the jury room during deliberations or if we were sent out of the courtroom but not on recess but that probably varies.

    • @Daybreaq
      @Daybreaq Місяць тому +2

      @@laurabrooks9688 I understand that’s the way they do things; and most of the time, it probably works fine. But for these high profile cases where there are a lot of reporters and spectators every day in the gallery, it seems to me to be an easy precaution that would cost A LOT less than a mistrial would cost if too many jurors overheard too much at lunch. If it is a high profile, interesting case, it seems obvious that courtroom spectators would go to restaurants near the courthouse during lunch break and they’d be talking about what they just observed.

I did finally get up the nerve to leave with the kids....and while he had visitation (he NEVER paid child support) - I get the kids all ready (they loved their Dad and I never talked back about him in front of them -same as he never abused me in front of them - until he did and that's when I left) - but they loved him and they would sit watching for him and he wouldn't show up... It sounds like they are saying the abuse was emotional/psychological and this was the first time it went physical. My ex was the same way, thankfully without access to a gun. It's scary to watch this person escalate and know help isn't coming - worse that people accuse you of being manipulative because there isn't "proof" - and the very quality of your life and the life of your children also depends on you behaving in a way that covers for scary behaviors done in private. It's scary when the people and organizations that are supposed to protect you don't act. I can see why she acted as she did. No one else was going to keep her safe, and his escalation could be deadly by the time someone pays attention

    The gun that Ashley Used to defend herself is a Springfield XD in .45 ACP.. this gun does not have a manual safety that you can toggle on or off. It has a grip safety, a safety in the trigger and it has a safety that blocks the firing pin if it were to be dropped on the ground. As soon as you pick this up with a firm grip and pull the trigger it will fire instantly. There's no preparing it or getting it ready. Somebody talked about that in the live chat today and it was incorrect.

    My ex was so violent with me, kicked holes in doors, drove dangerously, punched holes in door next to my face, spit in my face, and blew up in a rage weekly over nothing.
    I only deescalated, and never retaliated for fear of broken bones, it only happened to me, and they were calm and happy toward everyone else, at work an angel.
    I left, but right before is when they hit my face 25 times, trapped me in my room, someone called cops, they got off me, after biting my finger till it bled, and ripping my hair out, and spitting in my face and shouted at me to leave or I was going off to jail.
    I still moved away a week later, then filed a police report, got restraining order, they had 52 week batterers course ordered and were reprimanded in court by judge.
    I honestly went through hell with police getting my report, being asked why didn't I report sooner, when statute of limitations is 5 years. If my face wasn't deeply bruised for a month, I think noone would believe me. Its so hard because just thinking of the violent reactions to going to a hearing to get the rrsttaining order is reliving the worst fear of their violence. Someone shouting, throwing things, pulling you by the hair, shoving you, accusing you daily of things, highly jealous when completely unfounded, but they flirt, cheat, ignore you is psychological threats.
    DV is a pattern, and this person had been doing this to their partners for 40 years, but I never would have expected it until it happened in my rel, after the first week, gtadually got worse and worse till I got out...

A lot of other chats are so incredibly toxic about abuse/DV and victims. Regardless of whether or not you believe Ashley to be one, plenty are who have stories eerily similar to their own lives and its incredibly painful to watch chats devolve around generalizations about abuse victims.

    The guy was 54 when he died. That's not young at all. He has an adult daughter. Is there any details about how he conducted himself in previous relationships? Surely there would be some clues to his abusive violent nature? It would be odd to begin that behavior in your 50's if you hadn't been abusively violent before.
    I find it scary that a woman can shoot a man, and then the community sees it that HE has to prove he wasn't violent, rather than HER having to prove that he was. Let's not forget that previous courts have ruled her to be untrustworthy. She even tried to say he was sexually abusive to his kid, and the court threw it out.

For those who want to know what the daughters TikTok posts were after she was on the stand, RA looked them up almost immediately and told us what they said/were about. I’m still torn at this point. Hearing some of the stuff the defense has tried to get in, but judge won’t allow seems she may have been the victim of DV. I had a past partner that was controlling so I get “go along get along” mentality. I can see Ashley playing nice over texts to just keep the peace while telling others she was done. Long story short I’m not convinced one way or another yet. I have however learned so much during this trial with the judge making so many decision on camera with the jury excused. AB was not just someone that walked in off the street and forced her and her dad to let her live there, her father did that and just told her afterwards. Even that shows that he was controlling and did what he wanted because no one else's opinion mattered. His daughter said that in those first months she moved in her friend as well. Now imagine you're AB and the daughter hates you and then another teenager moves in without you having any say. I bet you the 2 of them did what teenagers did to the wicked unwanted stepmother and ganged up on her. At this point ... as a juror and DV survivor - I haven't seen anything that I wouldn't have done ...
    I'm UK so no g*n. And when I left 2nd time round I had my cousin with me on moving day - no way would I be alone for that because I have no idea how he'd have reacted. Everyone knew I was leaving including him, either the kids were there and he wouldn't do anything excessive around them, he was in work so we were never alone together.
    Still no-one knew how bad it was. She had already left, yet he still seemed to be injecting himself in her life. Imo she did what she had to, to remain safe, and keep the child safe, to the point of allowing him to believe he had some control of the situation.

      @@sidewayssitter I’m 100% with you. I love when they come with, but she was abandoned by her dad, or she lived the DV, you don’t know what is that. Sadly, I know how to recognize physical abandonment, emotional abandonment, DV and emotional abse, because that was my bread and butter growing up. Precisely because I know how to recognize those things, is why I think some of her stories don’t check. Also as a person that lived those things, I would never mistreat a child that has a huge abandonment trauma because she lost her mom and then her dad was emotionally detach enough to marry in secret. That poor child was fully abandoned and she decided to declare war to her. The way she talks about, Eva, how she treated her and even how she is allowing her to be used in this trial, lets me know that she is not reacting like a survivor because usually survivors protect children. Most victims I know that have kids protect those kids from everything, this woman is using a 6 yrs old child to do a pity campaign out of the court, in the trial about her mom unaliving her dad. I think he was problematic, but she is an abser too. I cannot see the red flags and because of some survivors allegiance decide to be blind about it and say “Ohh poor Ashley”.

    I see all the comments arguing whether Ashley’s behaviour, words, actions, tone, facial expressions etc. are indicative of her being a DV victim trying to survive vs a manipulative liar trying to cover up her guilt. But for me, I’m not overly interested in digging into that, at this point. That’s simply because, for me, I can be 100% convinced a person is guilty, and would still feel compelled to vote not guilty if the state had not met their burden of proof. And personally, I don’t feel the prosecution have done that.
    They put forward a motive - the imminent release of the psych assessments - that they didn’t prove beyond reasonable doubt, and that their own witnesses cast doubt on.
    They knew, from the 911 call that Ashley claimed it was self defense, but provided no meaningful evidence to counter that claim.
    And their own witnesses were the ones who testified to things like bullet holes in the ceiling, and fist marks in the walls with no credible suggestion that they were caused by anyone but Doug during violent outbursts.
    Do I think it’s possible that Ashley is a manipulative liar who murdered her husband to keep her baby from him, and tried to pass that murder off as self defense? Definitely I think that’s possible.
    But have the state proven that beyond a reasonable doubt? Definitely not. I don’t think they have done enough to show motive, and to rule out self defense. May they get there on rebuttal? It’s possible I suppose, but at this point, it’s a very big ask, in my opinion.

    I would vote for guilty at this point and here is why.
    She married him in 13 days; used his money to set up a ballet company; moved out to her mother's house as soon as she was pregnant; and he doesn't even know his daughter was born because she deliberately hid her from him. When he found out, they began to fight for the custody of the child, and all hell broke loose.
    She had accused Doug of being domestically violent toward her, poisoning her tea, and even SA their daughter, but after an extensive investigation, the family court determined that her allegations were unfounded. She LIED, making FALSE ACCUSATIONS against her partner, that is a fact. How can I trust her words if she was proven a LIAR without factual evidence that he is abusive towards her?
    There is no evidence that he is being abusive TOWARD her. On the contrary, we have the exact opposite by reading/watching their interaction in the text message/video. The last conversation they had was, Ashley invited him to come over and help moving, and he was shot to death.
    The defense argues that she IMMEDIATELY jumped out of the house, reached out to her neighbor, and called 911. Yet the dispatch officer said the body was cold to touch when they arrived at the scene. The ME said he was bleeding to death. The gunshot entry wounds are from the side of his right chest and the back of his calf, and he was at least 3 ft away.
    The defense keeps bringing up Doug's prior bad acts that have nothing to do with her. It's just like Johhny Depp tossed a bottle across the room that hit no one, slamming a bunch of cabinets violently; therefore, he is an abusive monster toward Amber Heard. Am I supposed to believe that? Where is the evidence that he abused Ashley that makes her fear for her life?
    People keep bringing up emotional and mental abuse, for which I don't see any evidence. Even if it's true, does it permit you to take someone's life?
    I am welcome the defense to change my mind but it ain't looking good for this lady.
