This is what an any% speedrun should look like. Bizarre glitches everywhere with unexpected comedy during cutscenes and a huge chunk of the game missing entirely. Would love to see this explained.
Hey, I've run the game at ESA Summer 2023, even though it was a different category. Almost everything you can find in the Any% category has been explained during that showcase, and even more. At the moment you can find the vod only on ESA's Twitch channel: www.twitch.tv/videos/1884649536
I remember as a kid going to my older cousins house to swim in their families pool. Afterwards i would watch him play this on his ps1. He never let me play lol. Good memory. One of the few i have.
Thank you, even though this game's glitched runs are more about knowledge than pure execution, so skill isn't as relevant as in other games. About GDQ, I don't think I'll be able to go there anytime soon since I live in Europe and so it would be a bit troublesome to do it. I might submit something to ESA sooner or later.
One of my favorite childhood videogames. Even with the Prima official guide, it would take me weeks to finish it (mainly because my dad kept kicking me off to "play" tomb raider lol The entire time watching i was saying "oh that's bullshit, that is pure dag-nasty bullshit" in a very admiring tone
Thank you! I get you by the way. There's a lot of interesting things about the glitches behind the scenes, but I'm not too used to speak English and I can concentrate and relax more if I don't talk while I play.
@@veictas It's totally understandable. I don't expect the runner to commentate a WR attempt, especially if english isn't their first language. What I meant was, if this was performed at a marathon and someone was commentating it (someone who knows the tricks being performed and can explain them while adding some humor perhaps), this could be pretty enjoyable to watch.
@@MaskedGuyCh Oh ok, I agree with you. I'll try to do that for sure if I'll get the chance to run the game at a marathon. Too bad this category in particular isn't marathon safe at all because of a warp and a crash that are out of control and only sometimes they work as intended. A much safer Any% and the AllBosses could still be played though, and they would contain almost the same glitches, with the flying glitch in addition.
@@MaskedGuyCh The whole video I was thinking how awesome the commentary would be for a run like this at a marathon. The intricacies of timestop, the game storing then switching which object you're standing near, abusing the strike animation etc.. would be very interesting to explain during the run.
Hey, usually the thing crashing the Steam/GOG version at the start is the resolution selection in the settings window after you start the game. You have to open the box and try both a 16bit and 32bit version, one of them should work while the other one could crash. And you can run it in windowed mode using dgvoodoo or d3dwindower without much problems btw.
@@Laghrian At the moment there's no legal way to get a digital copy of the game. You could maybe get a physical one and then apply some patches, but I haven't done it myself so I can't help much. Let's hope it gets available again, it has been a while since it got unlisted with a message saying Crystal Dynamics is working on some important updates.
Sometimes interactions with water pools near ledges don't work properly. For example you could even grab that same ledge, ending up in Raziel's body being almost completely immerged in water, and nothing happens.
I've played this game, and speedran it hundreds of times and never once have I seen such a thing happen. In fact, I've taken damage from a single TOE barely touching water for a fraction of a second, not even long enough to trigger the splash sound and ripple effect. You got the splash effect and ripple, meaning you physically touched it way longer than neccesary to take damage. I'm calling BULL.@@veictas
@@APackOfHungryGhosts I'll keep saying it's the interaction, but even if what you say was true, taking damage by that pool of water wouldn't make any difference in the run. Raziel has no reaver, so he wouldn't lose it and the amount of damage taken by touching the water wouldn't be high enough to fall into the spectral realm involuntarily. By the way you can see Raziel losing health because of water @7:12.
Player in the video: (gets the world record speedrun)
Kain: “I must say I am disappointed in your progress, I imagined you’d be here sooner.”
That's more of kains challenge to the speed runner to be even faster
i mean, his name is kain, no matter what he'll be jealous and try to wipe out the W

*Takes 18 mins to reach final part of game
Kain: I must say, I’m disappointed in your progress
Me: 🫠
"honey we have half an hour before we gotta leave"
"yeah let me just complete soul reaver 1 from a new game real quick"
😂😮
Narrator - "Do you suppose time stopped for you Raziel"?
Raziel then uses the time stop glitch 700 times in 20 minutes, lol.
Raziel :- manage to be here in 20 mins
kain : - I'm disappointed in your progress i imaginated you'de be here sooner😂
Reminds me when my old friend claimed he could complete this game in 20 minutes, but he actually meant the demo 😂 Nice run 🎉
Nice. It's an interesting knowledge based run; I gotta try it. I've never been too competitive, and it's my favorite game. Might as well.
Goddam impressive as hell, congrats on the WR. I know English while focusing is rough but would love commentary :) lot going on
did it trouble you to murder your brothers?
Raziel: Wdym?

Very impressive ! Great job !

This category is not very enjoyable to watch, at least not without great commentary, but it is what it is. Congrats on the WR!

Eita karai 😱😱😱😱 que macacada. Doida foi essa ?? Bugou minha mente 😂
Kain seems to think that that's a faster way to do this!
belleza
How does the spectral realm shift glitch work??? I’ve never seen this
llevo 22 años tratando de terminar este juego...
Good 🔥
lmaooo 10:57 that's so funny
Yea loool😂
okay, this run was done on the PC port
I need to know what settings and drivers were used because SR1 on PC is just... well its not good.

Os Cara e Vampiro e Tem Que Ficar Lutando Com Espada kkkkkk
É melhor do que vampiro ficar arranhando os outros com as unhas
Speedruns = using glitches to bypass gameplay to get a fast time.
Yeah....i dont count those. so stupid.
