I do believe GT7's progress is way beyond the skeptics expectations, as there's still some content holding back in GTS era and most of the GT7 content is already done in GTS, only concern is if PD is really generous that putting more contents than we've expected for.

I dont know about that, I've owned all the GT games and some in the past have delayed it due to lack of content. Kazunori has said in his interview with playstation that 1 car takes about 1 month to render. And with GT5, they released the game with only a certain amount of "premium cars" GT 1, 2, and 3 were great bc they kept adding more features, but after that they went a different direction. GT sport, you have to race for milage to upgrade your car for example. For a real simulation game that doesn't make sense.

    • @vinching926
      @vinching926 3 роки тому +3

@@gvue4396 What you've said doesn't mean anything for my statements though, GT7 is yet another "tock" step for the GT lineage, it's rather reasonable to see shorter development time, with several new elements upgrade from the "tick" step, even if you've mentioned modeling a car needs a month of time, there's still some cars out there had been modeled years ago and not released on GTS yet, just consider the factors above Mar 4 release date is quite reliable, unless there's something unexpected coming at the final stage of the testing period, or PDI is still severely lagging behind of what they had planned.

The biggest concern is the always online single player because no matter how good this game will be it will not be very functional once the servers shut down even if you have good internet. In GT Sport's case it was justified because it was an online oriented tittle. In GT7 is not justified because, as they said, is a single player oriented game therefore it does not make sense to take measures about ''save scumming'' because if I paid money it is mine and I can do whatever I want to my own game. Save scumming in single player does not harm other players so I should be able to cheat if I want because it is my game. In online it makes sense, in single player it does not. As others have said it is probably a DRM tactic more than it is about save scumming and we will probably see it in other games in the future.

People are overreacting about GT7 being cross-gen. Let's be real, we all know dev cycle of PD: 2 GTs per generation. PS4 has only one (unless you think of Sport as Prologue type of game, than 0). GT7 probably was in development as PS4 exclusive, but it took so long that PS5 has arrived. Sony and PD had learned their lesson with GT6, to not release previous gen exclusive, and with PS5 architecture being very similar to PS4, porting was easy. We've been fed the "PS5 exclusive" story to boost aforementioned console sales, and "GT7 is coming to PS4!" story to make Sony look like merciful company that cares about those who couldn't get PS5. That makes people think that GT7 was primary developed for next-gen with PS4 being afterthought, but in reality is other way around. But that just my theory.

I can see that being highly possible, i do believe the game is using sports engine at the core and they tweaked the game on an engine level to then do things on ps5 that they couldnt on ps4, but still keep it at a level that it can at least be like sports graphics and framerate on ps4.

As much as I agree with most of your thoughts and concerns, and besides the fact that I’m still excited for GT7, you’re perspective on the franchise becoming more arcade-like is flawed. The natural progression of racing games, in general, has been to become more realistic in more ways than one. Be it graphics, physics, sound design or so on, the idea was to improve on these aspects with each iteration of the game. This also applies to any type of game really but doubly so for stuff like racing games and simulators. The idea of PoDi backpedaling on physics is concerning, and I fear that if it goes too far it will begin to alienate the part of the player base that are looking for “the real driving simulator”.

The leap to become an Assetto Corsa is huge. I don't think GT can ever be as realistic. And I'm not hoping it does. They may be "the real driving simulator" the way the physics work is far from being real. At best real-ish. And that's fine. That's what makes it fun and enjoyable. That's what makes it a Gran Turismo and why we love the series so much. That "almost real but still a game" feel.
      Let's hope it never changes.
I absolutely love to play AC. It's by far my favorite driving experience. But Gran Turismo puts another type of smile on my face. It's fun and I get a whiff of nostalgia too. I don't need it to be super realistic to enjoy it. I enjoy many type of racing games. I own about a hundred racing games from all eras and I enjoy them a lot, be it Outrun on Master System, Lotus II on Megadrive, Auto Modellista or Enthusia on PS2 or Assetto Corsa Competizione on my Series X. Gran turismo is Gran Turismo and that's what I'm asking of it. To be just that.

If there's anything about GT Sport that I can appreciate its the presentation, which is top-notch and what you could always expect from PD. Aside from that, I don't care enough about ESports to really want to follow it. The first Gran Turismo was what really got me into a lot of the JDM cars, that would become popular a few years later, and a bit of Japanese Motorsports. GT Auto, finding the hidden gems in the used-car dealership are what always made GT fun to me when you really got into the depths. Gt7 sounds like it's going to be a return to that form and I'm beyond excited for it.

Personally I didn’t like the gt sport physics. However, I think it was a good move from pd here’s why.
    1. It was exploring a new aspect of gaming as the previous games have done.
    2. It wasn’t actually a proper gran Turismo it was ‘sport’ not prologue or decimal number. It was a game that was built to explore the concept of sim racing as a ‘sport’ and is was incredibly successful at that goal.
So it wasn’t what most fans were expecting but it was a good game. PD was never aiming for the same audience and I think that’s a good thing. I’m sure many of those new customers will follow through onto gt7 and becom investmed in the series and it’s homage to cars and racing.
PD judged the shift to realism and realist a) they could make a s***t tonne of money b) they could inspire a new generation with the watered down magic of gran turismo to show them the awesome car culture we have beyond just everyone driving gt3 cars in iracing etc and c) they could pave the way for sim racing esports to fester into a massive thing so it wasn’t just about them it was about being able to develop a cultural acceptance of pro esport racing.
This is just what I read it as it’s probs all wrong.
    Have a nice day.

The biggest problem with it being a cross-gen product is that it can't reach its full potential in a couple of areas and those are driving physics, AI and grid size. PS5 has a way faster CPU in it than the one in PS4. And it's confirmed it's crossplay between the two meaning the physics and grid sizes have to be the same on both. There's no question that PS4 will hold the PS5 version back. I just hope GT8 will be released couple of years later and will be PS5 only game.

For me the thing about GT has been (nostalgia, and) car collecting and tuning. Done in a stunning environment that the game provides. It was fun when I was a kid and used mainly a controller, or in the latter stages I got a Logitech wheel controller with no force feedback, but just a spring interpretating to be one. Then it was fun and there is still many fun hours to be had with that. Still, nowdays I find the joy in the feeling of physics. In a game like Assetto Corsa the cars just feels right. In a game like Dirt 2.0 there is an immense feeling of speed when pushing the car in a narrow gravel road midst a forest. But in GT, there is really no thrill in the diving. I can drive a Ferrari road car and feel like I am driving a Fiat Punto. There is no sense of speed and thrill. That is why I am a bit of concerned about the fact that they make the game more accessable, if the sense of speed is still lacking. I am not a hardcore sim racer. I am not awful either. I have no interest in practicing for esports and my priority is not 100% physical realism, but the feel of driving has been lacking in recent GT games. I hope that the next game fixes that. But as you mentioned that GT sport has been improved recently, I just put the game to download to try it after about 2,5 years. Lets see if there is any improvement to my liking.
Despite the issue, I am quite certain that I will sooner or later buy GT 7. It is just if I will use it mainly for driving, or for the other ways of entertainment. I did enjoy very much the livery editor and scapes of GT sport too. I made myself a background for my PS4 using that and I don't like that PS5 does not support custom backgrounds, because I would use one for that too. Oh, this turned to be a long comment...

I would think the concern with the the game being cross generational is the anemic CPU. Graphics are pretty scalable, unlikely to be held back by the old PS4.
Like ACC struggling with the XBox One and PS4 because of the advanced phyics models, that would mean there is little chance of upgrades there. Anyone who has played ACC on console versus PC will understand the massive difference between the two. You did mention the physics being more forgiving, which I hadn't heard before, so that would make upgrading physics a moot point. Especially if the aim is to allow controller to be competitive.
However, the anemic cpu of the PS4 affect more than that. Already you see limits of 16 on racing lobbies. So that rules out larger lobbies. Also AI. How good will the AI be able to be to make the single player races fun on such old architecture? So you are looking at potentially simplified physics (intentional it sounds like), small lobbies, and likely simple robotic like AI.
Either way, GT7 looks like it would be fun, and I might even get a PS4 or PS5 to play it, since unlike the new Forza, I won't be able to play it on PC. It will be interesting to see how GT7 vs FM plays out. Forza is upgrading it's physics to be more realistic going the opposite direction with that.

I believe the physics in GT Sport is perfect. It's realism allows players to feel like they are actually driving a simulation. Polyphony has the best gamepad/ controller physics of any console game and they should NOT deviate from that in GRAN TURISMO 7. It's the "Real Driving Simulator". If they are going to make it more arcade its going to ruin the experience. The fact is we have enough arcade type racing games on console, Gran Turismo Sport is the only realistic driving game that actually feels good on gamepad/ controller. I tried Assetto Corsa on PS4 and Automobilista 2 on PC both on gamepad, and believe me compared to GT Sport, they are both UNPLAYBLE on gamepad. In those games the vehicles feel like they are driving on ice and have little to no contact with the road. Polyphony should stick with the realistic driving physics of GT Sport in Gran Turismo 7, do NOT throw that away it's perfect.

Physics can be scaleable to appease everyone. As early as GT3, PD already provided an option for Standard gameplay and professional gameplay. Of course, professional-mode in those days are nowhere near full-blown sims are these days. But if the physics engine is scalable, then things like track temperature, tire-pressures etc. turns on while all driver aids switch off when selecting professional mode. And then in the standard mode, you get the option to tweak the driver aids to your liking, and no longer have to deal with deciding how much pressure to put in the tires and what not. If gamers had the choice, completionists will use Standard physics to 100% the game, then switch to professional to experience the full-blown sim. At least, that's a concept that PD can explore eventually to balance producing a fun game whilst living up to their tag line as "The Real Driving Simulator".

I agree with you 99%. I came from gt1, missing only GTS. Strangely is the best sim, which I love faithful games, but I don't like race cars. I do like realistic games, and that they represent accurately the flaws and goods, and all detailing characteriscs, that make each car special, and how it performs compared to others. So if I've driven these cars live (I don't those top lines, but others more accessible sometimes), I would like to race them together in ways I would never do in real life. Everything else, I think you're on point. I don't own any PS4 or ps5, and I was thinking in getting a new ps5 with new wheel and the game when it was released, but now I'm thinking maybe PS4 pro at a discount might be better option, and spend more on a better more complete wheel. I played GT Sport and whenever I don't update/go online there was nothing, absolutely nothing to do. I can do quick races and license tests but that's it? What about the classic Gran Turismo experience. In fact, GT Sport was the worst and my personal least favorite in the franchise because of the lack of a proper offline presence. I couldn't care less about the competitive online experience either so the cross gen thing doesn't concern me.
To me Gran Turismo is a mix of a giant car list, a diverse campaign to use these cars in the list for and calming intro music

It would be very bad for the game's "after-life", when they stopped updating the game at some point and decided to shut the servers down with no playability anymore besides Arcade. Every GT Story mode of Gran Turismo has been offline useable. Even when GT and GT6 servers shut down, GT mode has been still accessable to this day.

I think my main concerns regarding the crossgen issue is the effect that may have on AI in single player, and the number of cars on track in multiplayer. Will they have enhanced single player AI on the PS5 due to the extra computing power, or will they need to simplify it somewhat to account for the now 8 year old PS4. With multiplayer, it would be nice to see some multi class races etc, but how many cars are going to be able to be on track? We know how many GT Sport can handle, is it the same in GT7 or will this need to be reduced to account for the PS4?

Fantastic review...thanks! The only real thing that I love playing with GTSport is the livery editor. I love art & design, and with the game giving people like me the creative enjoyment on top of racing your dream car on Gran Turismo is just amazing. Then to top it off, being able to sit back with a beer and watch your work on the race track, surely must be the best thing ever? I'm sure many of those GT boffins might agree, because just look at the number of liveries created ever since GTSport came out?
To add to your comment about buying a PS5, I have been thinking of a PS5 for a number of months, but apart from GT7, there isn't any game that I'm bothered about, so having GT7 on PS4 will be brilliant, and so what if its a bit slower? It's down to the gamer to decide if he/she wants one.

Hopefully, they will have more daily races too. I never thought that the 3 races available in sport were enough!! definitely needs a few more options.

3:46 That right there should have you understand why online *only* saving is completely unacceptable. Imagine those of us who hardly get to play, and out one good play session gets ruined due to a clunky and *unnecessary* internet requirement. Or imagine those of us that have had to gone through economic hardship and had to sacrifice the internet bill (I've been there). In that case I was still able to play the games I already owned, but losing the ability to save would make the game essentially unplayable.

I feel the choice to cross gen the game was mostly a choice to not completely separate the player base. Gt5 did that, which was understandable given the time, but in today’s day and age, if it was strictly a ps5 release, the top players would move on, but the more “casual” players, even the ones that own a ps5, would stay clear of gt7 multiplayer because of the fact there’s more players their skill level on sport. I fully support the decision, even if the primal motive is money.

I am a Playstation guy through and through and Gran Turismo is a great game, but they need to stop doing the same thing over and over again. Make the game fresh and new-ish. The only downside is mandatory online saving. How are we gonna play this game at all 5 years from now when they shut down servers like they did with GT5? Also they are basically saying you have to have internet in order to play this game which is unfortunate because some people don't want to race other people online and are content with just racing the AI in career mode, now not an option.

I think there's also a bit of a problem with the fanbase of GT with GT7. The fans all love GT, but now with GT7 returning to traditional roots, some people can't agree on what Gran Turismo is and what it should be. Back then, Gran Turismo was about collecting cars and progression, but with GTS, players now see Gran Turismo as a competitive, realistic sim racer. Some, including long time GT fans, say that GT should focus less on the single player side and focus on more on competitive racing. Other veteran fans did not like the shift to esports with sport. Now though with GT7, fans of the original GT gameplay will get to enjoy the progression that GT was known for once again, and fans of Sport will get their share with the FIAs and Sport Mode. I still wonder about the quality of the single player campaign, and whether it will be another GT5/6 style campaign, especially now with their focus on esports. It's kind of hard to make a really good campaign mode nowadays because of online gaming, but I believe that if any racing game can make a great campaign mode, it's Gran Turismo

Having owned every GT release up to GT6 and played them all to death I've only had GT sport for the last few months. I don't own a PS4 for various reasons but a lady came into my life recently who became my girlfriend and she does own a PS4 so she kindly downloaded it for me as a gift.
When I first heard of GTS quite a few years ago I assumed it was a stopgap, similar to GT5 Prologue which partly filled the delay until the real game and introduced online play.
Bear in mind it's been about 3 years since I played GT6 so I didn't really notice as much difference in the physics as regular players who made the switch straight away but the format of GTS seems very similar to GT5 Prologue, not a massive amount of single player races and championships, which can all be completed relatively quickly but with regular "daily races" and online lobbies, with the addition this time of the manufacturer series FIA championship etc. So to me it seems very like GT5 prologue.
I'm looking forward to GT7 and will be using a PS4, I don't fully understand the concerns regarding the game content which downloads to the machine as I, as I assume most players do mainly online races so is the data for those not stored on the servers? In which case it seems all you have to do is log in and access the event remotely via the online data.

Now, I ideally would like to see Ray Traced GI, but if it is going to be the Ray Traced Reflections, it should also be the Shadows as well. Without this being available during gameplay, it's a massive blow. I was really expecting Sony to truly show the ray tracing with GT7 and break that barrier... My only concern is 20 player online that is teased on PSN store... I so wish we had multi-class racing on N24 or LeMans24...
    Cheers...

Make gt7 fully offline and when saving or playing with friends than you need to go online it will be hard if the game is fully online because what about people with slow internet connection. You need to go online to buy cars is ridiculous

My expectations for Gran Turismo are for it to reclaim it's spot as a class leader. But through all of the critical aspects - it doesn't appear to exactly out perform it's rivals. The graphics are amazing, but they aren't dramatically better than others. The physics? Unless there's a deep dive showing how complex it is, one can only assume it can't compete with the likes of iRacing. We'll have time to wait and see.

I criticize Western Incompetent Sony than Polyphony Digital, due to the fact that they made Gran Turismo 7 a online-only racing simulator to play single player modes. More like It ain't Gran Turismo anymore, but just named GT7 without a meaning, as a long time Gran Turismo user (1 to 6 and on PSP) it's quite sad and pathetic really.

Dont really get why people complain about cross platform, you know Graphics sliders exist in PC games, you can have the same game made for PS5 Quality and Specs with some "sliders" toned down in the PS4

I am happy about GT7 being traditional, but I was also a big fan of GT sport, i think it works make sense to have gt7(obviously)but still add new tracks and cars to gt sport as a long term game.

I am looking forward to it. I prefer to collect and modify cars in GT. I do the races to feed that need. I hope the scope of cars in this next iteration of the game is large and would span many different eras. I plan on getting a PS5/GT7 bundle when it releases

I'm fine with the online save. However, a couple of days ago, all of my custom liveries were lost all of a sudden. And when I mean all of a sudden, it literally was all of a sudden. I do a new livery maybe once a week, and I was making one for a Mini. I clicked on new livery, and when I finished it, I saved it as normal, except that now I don't have any of the ones I have already made. Now, they do come up on my gallery, and on my profile, just not on my livery designer. Which is a little bit angering, but not that bad in the grand scheme of things. I just hope that sort of thing doesn't happen on GT7, since apparently is a relatively common issue for other players.

I’m excited about GT7. And I have a theory for why the public comments from Kaz about the differences between the PS4/5 versions appear to be so close.
We’ve not heard anything for a while about VR support for GT7, apart from old comments confirming VR will be in GT7. I love VR in GTS but it’s very limited to effectively offline single player Time Trial.
I think, and absolutely pray, that the PS5 version will support online VR lobbies I think PD are keeping that as a big reveal closer to launch. What do you think?

Agree with most of your points, although on physics Kaz said more Natural Handling, so you could interpret that in different ways. Is it going to be full sim, no, but ithink more sim then your expecting
On ,cross play it's great that the league players will still be able to stick together, but this has come at the costs to lobby sizes.
I'm not a single player, player but I hope there's improved AI

My only question/concern is that I am wondering how far the Car Lineup expansion is going to go. There are many cars that I loved in the GT4 days when I was young that I'd love to see return to 7. But many are obscure or obsolete due to newer or more popular models in the family (Ex. Silvia S14, but the 13 and 15 are confirmed.)
My query is down to not being sure how many cars will end up in Gt7. Will it be just a small amount higher than GTS, or will it be comparable to the GT4 days or even more than that? GT to Me was always defined by the sheer number of available cars, with GT2 allegedly having 650, GT4 having 740, and GT6 having "2000" but still well over 1000 Unique models. Will GT7 have like 400 and barely exceed GTS? Or will we unexpectedly have a game with 1000 cars again?

I am actually one of those kids who do plan on eventually being a professional racecar driver and I don't mind the physics being a little more forgiving, honestly Gran Turismo was never THAT realistic anyways, i just hope they add a lot more content like all those fictional circuits and I want those weird concept cars and lm edition cars, I want Polyphony to pull another Gran Turismo 4

I don't think the game being cross gen is going to be an issue at all. Graphically I think the only differences will be lighting, shadows, resolution and especially ray tracing as that is very hardware intensive. I think the graphical differences will be much less than people think they'll be, mainly due to how demanding ray tracing is.

I'm of the opinion that GT7 is long overdue. Sport is a good game. I've had some fun with it. I like it, but it's not Gran Turismo. It's some e-sports endeavor that went over pretty well. I'll be happy to play another Gran Turismo game where I can collect, drive, and race a bunch of different kinds of cars again. (and oh boy that s15 Silvia)

Enjoyed the vid. Maybe GT7 goes more traditional somewhat like 1-6. And that would be fine, I enjoyed playing GT1-6. Enjoyed GTSport too, maybe they could look at GTSport as it’s own individual title. Make it the Esport GT for players who want a closer to sim experience but without the 100k sim rig price tag.
The cross platform ability may make it or break it. If PS5 players games slow down or becomes glitchy to accommodate PS4 players in the lobby. Or PS5 players get better or faster control of cars because of the newer controller etc. Players will drop out of lobbies real quick, maybe there should be different lobbies, one for PS4 and a separate one PS5.
I’ll still play, but the PS5 version I’ll be looking for and just see what happens.

My ONE concern is that I want the chance to go back to this game in 10 or 15 years time and still get the classic Gran Turismo experience, GT mode, an offline used car market, GT Auto etc. I want to be able to play more than just arcade mode long after the game losses support from Polyphony just like you can with GT5 and GT6

Here is my honest opinion on GT 7 and Gt sports. I have played the very first GT game like many of the fans and cleared them all up until GT sports. I liked all of them for the ONLY exception (and i am one of the very few that didn't like it) of GT SPORTS.
Now, i wont trash talk on the game and instead i will try to say why i loathed the game and why i am very hesitant on GT7 in a more constructive way.
On GT sports, before it came out i KNEW i wouldn't like it at all. Not that i don't like to play with other persons in multi, i was in a friendly league in GT6 gaming every day on that game, all the time. I loved GT6. I had no reason to play online in GT SPORTS caus i know i am an average player and i tend to do a lot of mistakes. But i loved driving in GT6. I was tuning myself, and was only playing multi after i cleared all the solo content and i had the feeling i was getting better and like it all the more.
Back to GT SPORTS anyway, the competition focus aspect of the game and especially the ranking of official tournaments litterally is half of the reason why i play GT sports and DELETED IT. Tried to get back into it multiple times even forcing myself to give it another shot i just NEVER GOT INTO IT FOR SO MANY REASONS.
The others reasons why i didnt like GT SPORTS even though the graphics are amazing, SOMEHOW, i WASNT SATISFIED every time i was driving. It is the only game that is supposedly pushing the gameplay and tuning further, but for some reasons that i can't explain, i HATED THE DRIVING in it. Other reasons is the VERY POOR ASPECT OF THE SOLO CARREER that they left out. The bad balance of rewards earned after every races didn't made sense at all, the fact that multi has lost all my interest because of ranking online, i was never participating caus i kept getting bad scores a ONE or TWO mistakes. The LACK OF CARS which WAS the strongest suits for every GT released, and the lack of my favorite track the Monaco GP and other original GT races that they never made... The list of why i hated the game is longer, but i'll stop there.
Honestly i DO NOT CARE about how amazing the game looks and how amazing a picturecan be, I THOUGHT THE GT SERIES WAS ABOUT FUN RACING CARS U CAN JUST DREAM OF. Gran turismo has always been a great fun for me in the driving gameplay but somehow, i never had a shred of fun in GT SPORTS. THEY LOST ME.
I've always been a Play station players since the first console JUST for the Gran turismo series. There wasnt any game like it. In GT SPORTS there was absolutely nothing that stayed truth to it's true success.
I won't buy a PS5 at the price it is now even for its graphics and performance just for a potential screw-up and other so many reasons why i consider leaving Sony for good. Ill buy GT7 on PS4 pro but my biggest concerns is the crashes AND PAID DLC CARS, not the quality of the game... It could look like a PS3 game that i wouldn't care the slighest as long as they go back to their original lines from the previous games. DRIVING IS ALL WHAT MATTERS TO ME.

if they bundle it with a ps5 and a logitech wheel like they have in the past, that might convince me. not even sure if my ps3 boots up anymore so even gt5 is out of reach for the time being. cloud saves are a major concern though, i'd much rather be able to save locally.

    • @LePixelRacer
      @LePixelRacer 3 роки тому +5

Oh they did let us down. Gran turismo 5 was a major let down. Unfinished game. 80% of the cars were copy paste of the older generation and looking like so. Missing tracks. Broken. Not much improvement. I was a huge fan since the first game. And I bought the collector edition which was around 120€ at the time with a big back box. Told my wife to leave the house for the weekend so I can enjoy the game. And it was really not that good. Framerate issues. Poor content. Unfinished state.
6 tried to be the 5 it was supposed to be but it was barely enough to make it acceptable.
They did let us down. Sport was the last backstab for me. It was not the gran turismo we expected with again poor content, an online driven game without solo campaign at launch and so on. I enjoyed sport a bit in the end after many updates but they definitely let us dow a few times.
And I'm not even talking about the wait. We had to wait like 6 years for gt5 and it sucked big Time.
I have lots of hope for 7 cause it looks like the remake of 4 which was the high point in the series.
I do hope it will be good and I hope Kaz understood what fans are asking for (looks like it btw).
But they let us down a few times. Nothing is certain.

I do believe that the cross gen isn't as big of an issue as some are making out. You have to remember that poliphony are owned by PlayStation. They have come out and said they have been able to optimise it to a point you would struggle to tell the difference between the PS4 and ps5. The only thing that would be glaringly obvious are the load times and ray tracing in replay mode. That I'm not to sure on though
