Brilliant stuff once again 👏 The changes in portraits for King’s Henry VII & VIII should be considered revolutionary in how late medieval monarchs were presented in England. Side busts and 3/4 busts hadn’t been seen before on our coinage, and they not only reflect the magnificence of royal portraits but the legitimacy and supremacy of HVIII as Head of the Church of England along with wider Renaissance and Reformation values

Yes I totally agree, the Renaissance was in full swing and boy did the later coinage of Henry VII pathed a way that lead to where we are today in terms of portrait design! Thanks for the comment Tom.

An important note: that dot on his face isn't a wart, but a centering mark so that the moneyers knew where the center of the die was. Edward and Mary's coins have the same dot.

I’d love to get one of these with a good portrait on it one day. They’re really interesting coins.

I wonder why Henry used his father's profile portrait on the groats until the 1520s ... the treasury was full from 1509 so the Crown could have afforded to commission a fresh portrait on ascension.

it is interesting that English testoon went so down in quality in comparison with French teston, usually it was the other way (French livre)

Yes mate, he debased the coinage to fund wars, destroying the coins of all intrinsic worth. Crazy how it changes!
