Great video. I have been finding coins metal detecting in the UK for 11 years. I have about 45 hammered. I have now decided I want to identify them all without help from friends in groups. I have been reading spinks and am fascinated with all there is to learn from these coins. I have many hours of fun ahead. Finding them is now only half the fun.😊
I have two Elizabeth I coins, date 1578 is fairly clear on the reverse of both. I like the two samples to compare lettering on the obverse. The queen are made out including the nose, eye and ruffled collar. Each had been clipped on different locations. I love these hammered coins as my ancestry is from Great Britain (our family had a land grant in South Carolina from George III prior to the Revolutionary War).
I love hammered coins i have every coin you just posted up, Well all except the common wealth coin with the shields and i'm working on getting my hands on one of them has we speak..
I found a perfect short cross silver coin last week but I know nothing about kings so you have narrowed it down to 4 and I think it’s Richard I. Over the moon, thank you 👍
Very Informative, I was fortunate enough to find a King John coin last week, wonderful condition, Miles on Winchester mint, this is why I enjoy detecting as it goes from detection to investigation!
In the last year I've found a Henry II Tealby penny, King John cut quarter, King John cut half, Edward penny (not sure which one, waiting for the FLO to sort that out!), an Edward I farthing Waterford mint (in lovely condition and quite rare I believe, you'd probably sell it for about £225.00), an Elizabeth I penny and an Elizabeth I twopence, three Charles I rose farthings and finally an unidentified penny in fairly poor condition as yet unidentified but possibly Richard II. I also have a Nuremberg Jetton. Most of them have come out in fine condition - I'm very lucky to have a great permission. Hopefully more to follow. Thanks for the video.
@@BritanniaCoinCompany Thank you. The Lizzie 'two pence' was actually a half groat as it turned out. I have found two more since this post - a cut half which is probably Henry III, and a very large hammered in poor condition which is with the Kent FLO (I'm hoping she will be able to ID it). That one is probably a late one, possibly a James I.
Brilliant video Christopher 👍 The only hammered coins I have Is in my pocket after a night on the sauce lol😄😄😄😄 I do have some Edward 1/11 coins Take care 👍

I do not understand why English coins were hammered and the earlier Roman coins struck? Did people forget how to mint coins? The Greeks struck beautiful coins prior to the Common Era.

It is interesting to see how coins have been struck differently over time and across the world -CC
