  • The main star attraction of The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway Steam Gala this year would be 4079 Pendennis Castle, A Great Western Railway Castle Class locomotive that's celebrating its centenary. The other guest locomotive to visit the gala is Great Western Hall Class locomotive no. 6990 Witherslack Hall. I decided to go and film at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway for the first time and loved every second of it. I filmed the steam Gala on Friday and Saturday with Friday bringing mostly sun all day and Saturday bringing a bit of wind and rain into the equation. My main abjective was to get Pendennis Castle as much as possible. With steep hills through towns, quaint villages, and beautiful countryside, it was the ideal place to see and hear the epic roar of a Great Western Castle barking up the Yorkshire Hills as well as 6990 Witherslack Hall. I decided to narrow the footage down to just shots of Pendennis Castle and Witherslack Hall which features solo runs, a double heading together for a Hall and Castle pairing, and also double heading with the home fleet of the K&WVR.
These are the shots filmed during the two days on Friday and Saturday:
    00:00 - 01:07 - 4079 - Haworth
    01:08 - 02:37 - 4079 - Top Field
    02:38 - 03:44 - 4079 - Oakworth Tunnel
    03:45 - 05:03 - 4079 (with 85) - Keighley
    05:04 - 06:02 - 4079 & 6990 - Top Field
    06:03 - 07:15 - 6990 & 4079 - Keighley
    07:16 - 08:55 - 6990 - Keighley
    08:56 - 09:51 - 6990 (with 78022) - Haworth
    09:52 - 11:59 - 6990 (with 45596) - Oakworth
    12:00 - 13:39 - 6990 (with 45596) - Keighley
    13:40 - 16:19 - 4079 - Keighley
Full credit to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway for putting in a top class display, with the home fleet putting in some great performances, and also getting two exceptional guest locomotives to the 'Railway Children' railway. I'll definitely make another visit to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway in the future and Pendennis Castle will most certainly draw the crowds wherever she goes during its centenary celebrations.
I hope you enjoy the video. Feel free to leave a like, comment, and subscribe for more Steam action from Full Steam Ahead.

Those new houses just outside Haworth look more desirable than most. Not only are they made of local stone so they're not too intrusive, but what a great view out the back! 🤠

Just goes to show that GWR's Collett, Churchward and Hawksworth knew exactly what they were doing? The one alleged quote was from some GWR directors demanding why another railway company could build three 4-6-0's for the cost of two GWR's 4-6-0 'Stars', the great G. J. Churchward's terse response was "Because one of mine could pull two of their bloody things backwards!"

Of course, as a Taff Vale Railway engine, 85 is technically a GWR engine as well

4079 got more steam leaks than a Chinese laundry

Didcot really, really could get some lessons on how to make piston glands steamtight from Tyseley, though ... (see also 2999)

I agree. No Great Western shed master would have allowed a Castle to have such a bad steam leak as Pendennis Castle has. It’s been like that for about 18 months.

Jeez, that isn't exactly steam tight at the front end...........
