Acoustic guitar shootout: 1945 Gibson J45 vs 2017 Atkin "The Fourtythree"

A vintage J45 is hard to beat as a classic acoustic. The Atkin "The Fourtythree" takes all the good aspects of this well seasoned tone and combines them with the usability and dynamics of an excellent new instrument. They are both great guitars in their own right. I love them both.

This was a really helpful comparison! I'd love a vintage J45 but they are getting more and more expensive so trying to find something similar sounding. Most of us don't get a chance to have both in the same room to go back and forth. Thanks!

Klasse Video Steffen. Hab auch ne 43 von Alister! Hab allerdings nen LR Baggs Anthem einbauen lassen. Nimmt ein wenig weg glaube ich . gruss Patrick

Ich hatte das Anthem in 2 Gitarren und mochte es nicht besonders. Ich glaube aber nicht, dass es den Ton der Gitarre nennenswert ändert.

Hi, welche Mikrofone / Preamps hast Du denn verwendet? Klingt schon ziemlich nah dran. Die Gibson hat etwas mehr Body/Focus - die Atkin macht oben etwas mehr auf. Klingt das im Raum auch so ähnlich?

Carl M Ich habe hier ein (halbes) Coles 4050 Bändchenmikro und einen Universal Audio 4-710 Preamp verwendet. Settings alle identisch.
Ja, die Gibson ist fokussierter und mittiger, spielt sich auch etwas behäbiger. Die Atkin ist offener, weniger dominant in den Mitten und spricht sehr schnell an. Die ca. 70 Jahre Altersunterschied machen sich dann doch bemerkbar. Die Atkin ist aber sicherlich der bessere Allrounder.

Wow somehow the atkin nailed the sound and was the same yet sounded much better doing it especially in the musical context back to back... that was an incredibly well put together comparison

The Atkin sounds a bit more modern from my perspective. More overtones, less natural compression. In the end it comes down to a matter of taste, I guess.
