I just ordered the Rover 60R from the Kastking website for freshwater striped bass. The reviews and the low price sold me. Hope it fishes well.

Nice review Captain! A buddy of mine just bought a 60 for kayak use. I guided him to his first stripers this past season. Can't wait for him to feel the weight of a nice cow towing him in his kayak.

That would never work on my boat. Never had anyone pinch a finger. Levelwinds are a MUST! I have a idea, make that same reel out of graphite instead. Looks to me like a corrosion magnet! I use Kastking braided lines. But, can't say I'd ever use these reels. I'd love to give my ideas to them.

Glad you posted that because that's what I was thinking, I mean I grew up using the older Abu' s to fish for big cats from the bank and can't see going backwards technically speaking.

It's made of aluminium, brass and stainless steel. But agree on the leverwind, it's a must.

Great review! I almost bought the RXA when they first came out, but I didn't like the grips or the clicker button. Both looked cheap. Looks like KastKing listened and made significant improvements, might have sold me on the 50. Appreciate the comparison, quality info, just what I needed.

KastKing right on. i do have a suggestion, if it isn't already in the works ... can you guys develop/distribute a lo-pro jigging/boating baitcaster? something to compete with the Daiwa Lexa or Abu Toro Beast lines, and keep it around $60-75? if anyone can do it, you guys can!

I have both of these reels.
    Both are great
Both had about the same degradation over the last three years.
Both were subjected to saltwater fishing. Redfish, Sea Trout, Flounder, Stripers, and Bluefish handled them well. I actually connected the line with 80 lb braid to a digital scale and cranked the drag to max. The Abu achieved 14.1 lbs the Kastking 13.9 making the difference insignificant.
Setting the drag to pull 10 lbs and giving a constant rate pull the Abu was a little smoother after about 30 yards of similated running fish about 0.5 lb variation on the Kastking and the Abu 0.2 or less.
Casting a two oz sinker on a 10 ft salmon rod the Kastking actually beat the Abu in distance 95 yards to 117 for the Kastking. However the Kastking was a little trickier to avoid the birds nest and the line going out a little noiser. The Kastking has two very small centrifugal blocks where the Abu has a set able system of 2 to 6 blocks. I used two blocks for the cast test so the Abu's is a little more efficient. Give up a little distance to obtain less birds nest.
    I tested the 60 and the 6500.
The Kastking had a larger line capacity due to a bigger spool but the thumb bar blocked adding line to be able to use this advantage. The Kastking was defeated by a 7 ft Bull Shark that spooled it. I don't think the Abu 6500 would have fared any better.
I did bring similar size one in on an R80 that I had modified by removing the levelwind but that's another story and I don't think the scrawny levelwind would have stood up to the task on the 80.
At $57 the Kastking is a real bargain.
The 70, 80, and 90 sizes need to lose the levelwind and have an upgraded centrifugal brake system or add a mono mag for cast control.
I think there is a real market out there for a long casting surf version capable of handling some of the beasts that can be had in the surf.

What is the best type of line for this reel for fishing in deep water

    • @KastKing
      @KastKing  6 років тому

Depends on conditions. If you need to cut through grass...go with braid. If you are fishing clear bottom with shell, plastic lines are best.
