Fishing For Oscar and Cichlid in Natural Aquarium

  • My buddy Jason and I spent a few hours fishing for Oscar and Cichlid in a natural aquarium in the Florida Everglades canals. We used fiberglass poles similar to a cane pole with live worms. Reminded me of fishing when I was a little boy back in Louisiana. This video has some magnificent underwater footage of INVASIVE Tropical fish in their natural state. The Cichlid and Oscar are so thick in this canal you could walk on them.

      Thanks Scott. The southern parts of the glades are magical looking, between the clear waters, Cypress trees and diverse fish. It’s truly a special place. Those fish are thick in our waterways right now. I remember 2010 when it froze for a week.....there were dead Oscar, peacock and Cichlid everywhere down in the Big Cypress. Now they are back with a vengeance

    Starting with the underwater vid this is the BEST Aquarium/Pond vid on UA-cam bar none...it makes those 100K public aquariums look sterile. It also is more real then those faked "Tropical underwater streams" that are obviously some kind of set up pond. What a fantastic combination of Monster tanks and Amato Natural Aquarium. Congrats!

    Really,you could do a whole 60 minute vid like the last half of this one and sell it (except to me!). I'm waiting for more of this!
    This is so amazing...its even more beautiful then the Amano tank in Lisbon..because here,you not only have schools of very small fish..they are followed by uninterested Gars and Bass! I'm sure some people seeing this would think Oscars and Festae are great for planted tanks-ha.
    The large Val grass waving in the strong current,the red Rotala in the shallows with the fish fry, even the "live rock" limestone is pure perfect aquarium.
    I hope theirs a version no.2 soon.

    curious to know if these 'invasive ' fish have actually displaced any more desirable fish in these canals. if they werent there, what species would be? and would they be as prolific as these invasives are? I guess my point is that it may not be that in all circumstances, that invasives are bad for an ecosystem. I have a feeling that there may not have been much in these canals if they were not there, at least in terms of desirable edible fish.

      @colinmccavana9579 4 роки тому

      The mouth shape is related to food source. Wild Oscar's like other medium to large cichlids tend to be more predatory, so small fish , crayfish and insects as opposed to prepared fish food. That over generations would give them teeth as well. The colour form is a land locked geographical variant.

    Wow I counted 14 different species under water. Can't identify the striped fish that appears in the upper-left corner just before the 10:00 mark. Definitely not a Mayan. Isn't the other striped ones I know of - Zebra Tilapia, Banded Cichlid, Banded Tilapia. None of those. The school of little striped fish at the 13:50-ish mark are also a mystery, athough it might be brightly colored juvenile Mayans. They look nothing like Mayans, but I've never seen fingerling Mayans before.
