Fishing For Oscar and Cichlid in Natural Aquarium

- My buddy Jason and I spent a few hours fishing for Oscar and Cichlid in a natural aquarium in the Florida Everglades canals. We used fiberglass poles similar to a cane pole with live worms. Reminded me of fishing when I was a little boy back in Louisiana. This video has some magnificent underwater footage of INVASIVE Tropical fish in their natural state. The Cichlid and Oscar are so thick in this canal you could walk on them.

I hope you do more underwater footage like this. The variety and abundance of fish was a pleasure to see.
I certainly can do this again in the near future
In different areas with different scenery
@@CaptainShane let's get on it...it's been 4 years already
That underwater footage was awesome! That place looks magical!
The Everglades are just awesome
Oscar Paradise ✌👀
The underwater footage of these monster fishes in such a natural setting was breathtaking 💛💙😲💛🤍💚
Shane that was something special to watch my friend. Amazing how fish so invasive can look so perfectly in place with the ecosystem underwater. Really awesome footage, and great video.
Thanks Scott. The southern parts of the glades are magical looking, between the clear waters, Cypress trees and diverse fish. It’s truly a special place. Those fish are thick in our waterways right now. I remember 2010 when it froze for a week.....there were dead Oscar, peacock and Cichlid everywhere down in the Big Cypress. Now they are back with a vengeance
Cool stuff. Not gonna lie Capt.... The last 9 minutes of watching fishies underwater with that piano put me in a trans.
Yeah man I feel the same way.
Better than back rub
Starting with the underwater vid this is the BEST Aquarium/Pond vid on UA-cam bar none...it makes those 100K public aquariums look sterile. It also is more real then those faked "Tropical underwater streams" that are obviously some kind of set up pond. What a fantastic combination of Monster tanks and Amato Natural Aquarium. Congrats!
Wow I really appreciate your kind words. There is nothing like the real thing👊🏻
It's really cool underwater footage. So cool to not see plastic bags and aluminum cans all over the river. Thanks for taking are of your water way.
The music and footage was amazing keep up the amazing work
Holy invasive species! Fantastic underwater footage!
they're here to stay.Amnestia por favor☺️! Won't need to import when natives can no longer handle F.E warming😉
Had no idea Oscars sort of school together in the wild, in my 150 gallon I have just the three of them and they all just want their own space.
The underwater footage in this vid is just amazing. The music choice is also excellent.
Thank you
@CaptainShane location
Man must be nice to live in florida if ur into the aquarium hobby. With all that fish swimming around for u to catch just ain't fair. Made me jealous 😁. Ain't nothing like fishing and catching the fish u usually but at ur local pet store. Great vid 👍✌️
Man! There sure were a ton of em in there! Cool under water footage also! Great video Shane!
Thank you pardner
That underwater shot is badass
Thank you
Great footage Capt'n. So peaceful watching those underwater shots.
So many beautiful fish living together
Yeah it’s amazing to see all the fish species together
Wow!!! It's so beautiful under there!!
Yes it’s so pretty in the Everglades
Awesome underwater footage.
+BassGeek enjoyed it myself
Also some people: that tank Is overstocked
Wow that's a lot of different cichlids and other stuff, some of those Mayans Cichlids had a Y-bar and small spots on the tail looking a lot like Mesoheros Festaes didn't know they where in those waters, ya'll about got everything 👍
whats with the dislikes? this an amazing video
Great video..magical underwater footage..wish I could go out there..
Thanks David. The glades are magical indeed
Awesome vid shane💯 keep up the great content💯💪👊LET'S GO!!!stay on top and keep up the GRIND💯
Thank you brother
Where was this! I'm trying to get one for my aquarium!
Breath taking the bit of the video
Thank you👊🏻
That was really cool your not kidding about the fishing in Aquarium that was beautiful
+Britt Pereira thanks I enjoyed putting this together
Great underwater photography. Oscar's make a tasty meal? I had them as pets long ago.
Beautiful underwater footage brother!
Thanks George. I could watch it over and over
I'd love to have some if them Oscars...
luv the underwater! really surprised at the density of fish
Really, you could do a whole 60 minute vid like the last half of this one and sell it (except to me!). I'm waiting for more of this!
This is so amazing...its even more beautiful then the Amano tank in Lisbon..because here, you not only have schools of very small fish..they are followed by uninterested Gars and Bass! I'm sure some people seeing this would think Oscars and Festae are great for planted tanks-ha.
The large Val grass waving in the strong current, the red Rotala in the shallows with the fish fry, even the "live rock" limestone is pure perfect aquarium.
I hope theirs a version no.2 soon.
Ok I am doing another video like this shortly. Thank you for the encouragement
curious to know if these 'invasive ' fish have actually displaced any more desirable fish in these canals. if they werent there, what species would be? and would they be as prolific as these invasives are? I guess my point is that it may not be that in all circumstances, that invasives are bad for an ecosystem. I have a feeling that there may not have been much in these canals if they were not there, at least in terms of desirable edible fish.
Beautiful underwater footage. I just subbed 👍 keep the awesome vids coming Captain Shane
I really appreciate you subscribing and I hope you enjoy the vids👊🏻 Thank you pardner
What plants are shown in the underwater footage?
Mesmerizing underwater footage.. Those fishes surely are thriving down there
Yes they are👊🏻
Beautiful wild oscars 😲
Wow I would love to have those plants looks amazing
They are absolutely beautiful. I have some in my backyard grafted to some palms.
Not grafted but tied to
This is funny, I was just looking at cane poles on amazon last night. Merry Christmas captain Shane.
Thank you brother. Merry Christmas
Oh man those poles are pretty cool. I was using a 13’ and it’s sort of heavy. I used a 10’ a few weeks ago and it was lighter and more sensitive
Good to know. I have a lot of small snakeheads in my canal and will try to get some canepole action on video with some homemade frogs. I will give your video a shoutout, the underwater footage was such a hoot to watch.
I'm surprised no one ever catches a big big Oscar 16 through 18 inches
I am keeping 2 Oscar's, nice to see wild ones swim so freely !
Yo I just watched this in my vr, and man that was amazing these fish are beautiful. Anyone else seeing this pls try it in your vr
Never seen Mayan cichlids as large as those before, wish they weren't considered "Junk" fish sometimes
They sure do taste good... at least to me.
Where is this at in florida? My boys want to catch them
that underwater footage is a pond or its natural in the wild? i was amazed with the gars! they're plenty!
Nature is awesome
Can someone please tell me where this is? I’d like to go when I visit Florida.
wow... so many fish in that river
Yes a tone of em👊🏻
Awesome Shane!
Thank ya👊🏻
Interesting, never seen an Oscar fish with that elongated mouth. My Oscars have more of a bucket mouth. Those are hybrids.
Theres multiple species
The mouth shape is related to food source. Wild Oscar's like other medium to large cichlids tend to be more predatory, so small fish , crayfish and insects as opposed to prepared fish food. That over generations would give them teeth as well. The colour form is a land locked geographical variant.
Hey capt Shane have you ever caught any crappie in the Lox reserve off of Lox road? Just wondered if you ever ran across any.
Ilove oscar fish
Great video guys!. How far away is this from Miccosukee resort?
Florida got all kinds of fishes. Lol
That was dope.
What is that place? It's magical
It is amazing, natural aquarium on the side of the road. They are considered invasive!?, that is sad because these are beautiful fish.
Free fishes for my aquarium👀✌
Oscar IS a Cichlid, Chichlids are family of fish, over 2000 species that live in Central/South America and Africa.
Thanks for the information. Pretty near to see them all in our waterways
Yeah, probably bad fish keepers threw them in there, in major pet stores they often sell Oscars and similar big aggressive cichlids to beginners with tanks too small.
Fish: Dear hoomans, what are you doing?
Hoomans: Hurting you for fun.
Why were u releasing them
I have two 3 months baby oscars
these fish are real good to eat... just dont eat too many of them... lol
Oscar peacock bass hybrids?
If I remember those were like crappie polls.
Where is this exactly gotta see this!!! Thanks!
Hi buddy please gave a map fishing tiger fish .
And it’s that a whirlpool
There not supposed to be thrown back
What state is this in?
Why would you throw it back in?
Pointless to kill individuals😟sadly they can't be controlled anymore..
15lbs test and u say play him out? I could've set the hook harder than hadi with that
thats just f up kicking that poor fish back in the water. wtf
Awesome.
Thank you brother
Since the jewel cichlids are as bad as carp why don’t they help out California by giving us some fish 🐠 who else’s agrees out here there’s like zero fish
WHat canal?
in india if they found they will sell it immidiately around cst of 10usd (700rupees) per one peice
Let’s sell em to somebody in India
Where did you catch these fish in what county on Tamiami Trail
Dade
the fishing part, meh. the underwater footage. such a packed biotop. crazy amazing
um ecossistema em desordem, mas muito lindo
where is that place > if you can share thanks
Tamiami Trail west of the Miccosukee Indian Reservation
@@CaptainShane is this in bradenton or palmetto clean?
That wasn’t a jewel chiclid that’s a spotted telapia
305fishing I think that’s a Mayan cichlids
Wow I counted 14 different species under water. Can't identify the striped fish that appears in the upper-left corner just before the 10:00 mark. Definitely not a Mayan. Isn't the other striped ones I know of - Zebra Tilapia, Banded Cichlid, Banded Tilapia. None of those. The school of little striped fish at the 13:50-ish mark are also a mystery, athough it might be brightly colored juvenile Mayans. They look nothing like Mayans, but I've never seen fingerling Mayans before.
did you see that gar at 1:42
bottom right corner:)
why do they toss back invasive species, they should know better, even if they do eat some, they are still tossing back invasive fish maybe Florida fish and wildlife should fine these people.
Overloaded
A giant gourami would eat all of those plant
We got plenty for the Gourami to eat
Wooaaaahh
I understand that u catch and eat what u can but y throw them back? Why not kill them and give it to stray animals
So sad. So many invasive fish
Never seen soo many fish in the one place before, when i die i want to become a fish
where is this park
i love Oscars so delicious.. just I'm in orlando def don't have these up here
This was on Tamiami Trail in The Everglades. Big Cypress National Park
I thought all those fish were invasive why were y'all throwing them back?
Lost cause. Only freezing weather will kill them. I take my what I can eat.
Captain Shane oh okay I see the ones that you guys threw back r not good to eat?
Fishing and throwing, with foot is a rude act. I hate it.
What kind of poles are those?? I seen cane polls but I always been a conventional tackle kind of guy ( baitcasters/spinning)
They were extending fiberglass crappie/panfish poles. Sort of like a cane pole
Anyone else see the gar in the beginning
JoseCruz Tellez yes
Yeah mannnn:-)
Indonesian fishing
Why are you treating the fish so badly you horrible people.
that was definitely not a jewel cichlid.
honestly its so far from a jewel cichlid that it’s aggravating. looks like a green texas. the jewel cichlid(an african cichlid) is red with blue pearls and has a long body.
I need some for my tank!!!!
dude u are brutal
🤣
Release them clean x-(
