Steve I used to work for an amusement company back in my 20's (30 years ago) and leaf switches were the norm. But you had to clean them all the time, even if they had gold contacts. take a 1MM / 1/8" slice off the side of a red eraser and use that to slide in between the contacts to clean them. At the time, micro-switches were the bees knees, a lot less maintenance. Love your videos brother.
Ah, yeah I can see why micro switches would be popular for maintenance! You can't beat the leaf switch for the button-pressing experience though. Much more authentic to me! 😍
if you need to tighten up the knob/ball (it will loosen over time from general use) just put a screwdriver into the centre screw on the underside of the joytsick. Turn that one way (right) & the knob the other and it will tighten up
Put some "sticky mirror" on the sides for more light for a balace distribution. Put some color light on the bottom like you have seen on cars. you still got spares for the other buttons like the config/schematic ABCD/EFGH. Do not get me going like a strobe light or phaser!!! sorry I am an Electronic Tech and I get Analog/Digital carry away...how about two speakers and some vibration when you get hit...opps... old football helmet and some solenoid....sorry sorry.
Awesome seeing you work on some arcade equipment. I’d love to see more. One thing I learned is when removing the … “knob,” 😂 there is a slot for a flathead screwdriver on the base of the shaft. Set a screwdriver there and twist the ball top. That way you don’t risk damaging the shaft with pliers. All the best! I have really enjoyed your content!
Great video. Ya, I built a tabletop arcade and bought the generic buttons and the Sanwa and man they are night and day with how they feel and sound. I wouldn't use anything but the expensive ones now.
Depending on how much you love it, I would be tempted to "mask out" or make the plastic more opaque except on the PacMan characters, or perhaps replace/move the lights inside to look less tacky. Or even get a switch/colour changer for the lights ya know. Depending on how much that bothers you. Good video as always :)
Damn... A bonus Peel - you have almost a completely new device now! I am exceptionally jealous... I've wanted to make my own arcade machine for ever... I just lack the...skills... to actually build the cabinet itself. Maybe an idea for a future second channel project? Put that Pandora into a full size cabinet. I'm sure your new house will have room right? :P
@@StezStixMix i made a full size one with a raspberry pi and sanwa buttons and sticks, built an amplifier from parts from Ali express and speakers from an old Bluetooth speaker I had, it's a really fun project if you have space for it ☺️
I love everything about it! Great work Steve! Better then factory for sure. I wonder if adding some kind if diffuser to the LED strip will help with the harshness of the light. Something opaque-ish and plastic like a strip from a milk jug? 🤷
I agree with comments made about moving the led strip to the side. Its also begging to be turned into a table arcade machine with a cabinet. Just like the picade!
I've never seen anyone change micro switches for leaf springs, the reason you don't remember hearing the clicks from them years ago is that arcades were LOUD
the whole time you were putting in the buttons i was like.. those nicks and marks look like they have air around them like a protective film, then validation
Nice job the mods you done. The factory didn't do a very good job with the led and diffuser I'm sure you could do a better job of the led than the factory did
I think he did them one at a time because he was worried about hooking up the buttons in the wrong order and then have to troubleshoot the whole thing till they were right again.
In my opinion it would look better if you put each button in different colour. Just like these Pacman ghosts. Each button have other function so each button should have separate colour but same scheme for 1 and 2nd player.
Stupid Box
Great video, i think you can put another led strip o the top to make a better internal light
@@christopherbolis2048 Or just move it to the middle.
Awesome! That film protector removed made it look brand new!
Yeah, it was a nice surprise seeing that film. It really does look brand new now! 😍
@@StezStixMix the music made it extra sexy though

We need more qualitier videos like this
As a fighting game player, I open and tweak my arcade stick all the time. It was entertaining watching you try to learn how to swap the parts
Surely they feel more… SOLID!?
They do.
And don't call me Shirley.
@@sk4lmanand stolid?
You should of got the Sanwa click delete versions. Those a very annoying
That peel was epic.
I literally came for the knobs and peels in this video. Nice job, Steve, I'm spent.
excellent work on upgrading it!
to nippick a little i would have made the P2 side with blue buttons since P1 is historically red
That peel olala. Great work Steve looks good,
Thanks Frederick! 😍

Yeah, I did wince a bit as he scratched the column up with his bare pliers...
That’s a good tip - thanks. I’ve been suffering with spinny knobs for ages. They always loosen at the worst time! 🕹️

i thought there was a plastic film on it earlier in the vid.. was going to tell you.. but you found it.. looks so much better.. nice.....

shaft and knob in the same sentence.....i think i`m on the wrong homepage here....
You’re supposed to put your screwdriver in the bottom stick screw to tighten and loosen the “knob”
Also, just thought, if you're into pinball emulation, you could also add flipper side buttons to the ends of the Pandora box.
Note: Some arcade buttons that don't click sometimes use Alps (clone) switches.
Great video. Ya, I built a tabletop arcade and bought the generic buttons and the Sanwa and man they are night and day with how they feel and sound. I wouldn't use anything but the expensive ones now.
Sanwa is the way to go… Japanese brand so quality
it is always a pain when your knob gets in the way of the sexy stuff! really cool video on customisation. love ya stuff thank you. and Happy Easter!
Definitely way better now. Great channel for customizing videos now.
I love this red buttons so much ❤❤❤
Up grade the strip with a longer one
Red tipped knob action. Nice
Definite improvement in look and function...... I like it

😁 I don't think my missus would agree! But yeah, I'd love to have a full size cabinet. Maybe a table-top version would be a good compromise! 😬
@@StezStixMix Yeah that would work. I think that would make a cool 2nd channel series.

Ooh, that's a good idea Chris. I might give that a go! 👍
i think the next Upgrade to is should be a diffuser channel for that LED Strip and surely a re-routing of it.
I agree with comments made about moving the led strip to the side. Its also begging to be turned into a table arcade machine with a cabinet. Just like the picade!
Glad you agreed with that it deserved an upgrade
I was wondering why the surface was cloudy. These buttons are a huge upgrade.
Great work Steve. Personally I’d prefer concave buttons of different colors, same for 1p and 2p and I’d turn off the light.
Looks much better 😉. Great 👍 work
Good upgrade
Knobs can be big and small .. make sure to pick the right knob and polish it too
Looks a ton better.
What you call boring, I consider cathartic at times. 😁 Keep up the great work. Came out looking awesome. Maybe add some leds to the other half ?
Did you put the knob shaft-covers back on? They hold the black, plastic disks down.
Second LED strip, maybe?
It went from being a broken piece of crap to a decent arcade experience 🕹️
Great job.
The whole video I was screaming "it's got a film protector on it" thank God you answered me
Would you put more LEDs inside the box?
Where can I buy one of these systems?
I can't help wondering if half the illumination isn't working.
Always firmly grip the shaft when twisting your knob.
Love your content. Quick question where do you get your consumables from such as flux?
Brilliant, thanks 😊
Steve is playing with his knobb again
That ending 😂😂😂 You might be able to install Pandory to that box, get 4:3 aspect and make Metal Slug run a ton better 😊
anyone knows game name on 8:06?
Metal slug
Another qualityer video stez

What's with the hum/buzz Steve?
the whole time you were putting in the buttons i was like.. those nicks and marks look like they have air around them like a protective film, then validation
I'm 45 and still laughed like a child at "Knob".
that light would be better if it was more centered and not on the bottom I bet.
Gotta love a good knob joke! 😂
I didn't know you had a second channel! :D
If you ever re-visit this again some aluminuim tape around the led's could improve the glow.
How are the buttons and sticks holding up ? Would you recommend them still? I'm about to replace everything and I have no clue what stuff to get ^^
U should get an octogate for them it truly brings out the potential of the fighting games
Programmable LED’s Steve to go around the edges. Use WLED and an ESP8266
“… wasn’t quite as sexy as I’d thought it would be”. Sadly, that’s true of many things in life. 😎
I like your vids. What buttons are the best?.
Looks good. Now you should redo the lights
I think me personally to make it more arcade authentic I would have gone with concaved buttons
did u get it from the official store ? it doesnt look like a PB :/
Ought to have had a personalised vinyl printed for the top 👍🏻
grab an old lcd tv grab the defuser out and lay over lights it will spread the light out
Nice job the mods you done. The factory didn't do a very good job with the led and diffuser I'm sure you could do a better job of the led than the factory did
Dirty Steve, fiddling inside Pandora’s box lol
Nice video. I think it doesn't matter the order of the bottom cables, the only thing that the button does is a little short, i believe
I think he did them one at a time because he was worried about hooking up the buttons in the wrong order and then have to troubleshoot the whole thing till they were right again.
Awesome Vid......can i have the old ones? 😃
I like the idea of having a row of red buttons and a row of black buttons for each player. It would be more visually appealing. My 2 cents.
Now do the cabinet for it, please
That could be in the main channel, Steve
that does look a lot nicer
Is your camera closer to your face now? The FOV seems a bit weird
The end killed me, I was hoping you would turn it back on to see if the lights were any better 😢........I'll never know but can probably guess
Nice 👍
you need to replace in a new Pandora Box 10th v2
Honestly I’m more interested if we can load custom software on this thing. The emulation sort of sucks not to mention that forced filter.
Red for me - looks more old school
8:30 *peels back protective plastic* *cues in the sexy music*
Yes! Time to mod 👏👏👏👏
The peeling of the protective film and the sexy music, you definitely should’ve marked this video as NSFW. Lol.
I like to start with the nobs, too. 😅
Also nice 💥
Got all that shit on my arcade
NICE!!!

Awesome 😁👌
Trash to Treasure. Simple Upgrade & still better than a 1up Arcade 🤣
ITS STILL: GOT THE FILM!
Is this a new channel? Where’s the old one? I wanna watch some videos
nice music.
I think you got conned on the joysticks
Pls pls pls pls get more screws for the main board I can't stand rattly boardssss aaaaa
Steve, how can I send you stuff?, I have a nice power bank I put 12v into charging port by mistake for you ;-)
Your knob was almost too big there at the end.
The black small buttons would look cooler on the red side and the red small buttons would look better on the black side
