This video is a tutorial explaining how to execute the speed glitch, otherwise known as blast effect. I noticed that a lot of people tend to be confused about the speed glitch and how to do it, so I decided to make a video explaining in detail how the glitch works, how to perform it, and showcasing several uses of it. As I mentioned above, the explanations are all in annotations, so watch with them on - otherwise you're just gonna see a video of a bunch of random clips.
It is important to note that for unknown reasons, if you have the PC version you will not be able to execute the glitch as well as on console; although the glitch does work, and you may be able to make use of it in a few places, it's generally much less effective, giving you less speed in some areas and outright not working at all in others.
The speed glitch can be done as either Classic or Modern Sonic. It triggers when you jump while at high speed with the stick tilted exactly the right amount forward. The amount of tilt is always the same: you want to tilt just barely far enough to make Sonic start walking, then hold it right there. The spot is very precise so you need to make sure you have it almost perfect.
There are three different versions of the speed glitch: up-right, tilt, and M-Speed.
- Up-Right: This is the easiest, and therefore most useful, method. Instead of tilting forward, hold the stick straight up. Now, very slowly rotate it to the right until you see Sonic start to move, then hold it right there. As Classic Sonic, spindash and jump. As Modern Sonic, perform a low air boost and jump. With practice, it becomes very easy to quickly set this up with Classic Sonic; it's still fairly easy with Modern, but a bit more difficult to do mid-run. The advantages of this method are that it will work almost anywhere and it's extremely easy; this is the method you will want to use 90% of the time. But the downside is that it won't work as well in areas with different camera angles.
- Tilt: Simply tilt the stick forward until the point where Sonic starts to walk, then gain speed and jump the same way you would for up-right. This method is extremely useful in certain situations because with this method, you will almost always have the right amount of tilt, regardless of camera angle. This allows you to use the glitch to much greater effect in some locations. The downside is that it is really, insanely hard to execute quickly. I'd only use it when necessary.
- M-Speed: This is the exact same thing as the tilt method, except in 3D. A simple way to pull this off at the beginning of a level is to find the stick spot you want beforehand, then pause and restart the level using the D-Pad while holding that position. It can be combined with Blast Off and Acceleration for some ridiculous jumps at the start of each level. Like the tilt method, M-Speed is extremely difficult to pull off mid-run. I personally don't consider it worth it basically ever, with a couple exceptions.

best BE tutorial I've ever seen, now I know why I couldn't get such a big jump on city escape and also how to do the BE with modern - I can do the glitch on chemical plant act 1, but I was wondering if its more effective with the forward tilt method - normally I just do the upright method lol
Honestly to say that the forward tilt method will make you go more faster than the up tilt method.

That's why I recommend using the up-right method whenever possible; with a little bit of practice, it's extremely easy to pull off quickly.
you probably think that because if sonic slides he keeps his speed, but its not actually necessary to hold circle to do the BE with modern
Modern Sonic speed glitching also works with down-left or down-right in 2d!
It's really precise. Make sure you have it exactly right and try to hold the controller in a way so you can hold the stick steady without moving too much.
Are you attempting it in the same spot as Zakuran? It's location-based; in some places it will work, in other places it won't.
As I said at the beginning of the video, the issue is the PC version. The glitch is significantly less effective on PC, either being far less effective or not working at all.
can u do m-speed just from boosting or does it have to be an air boost?
M - speed means gaining speed from your air time, so its necessary to be an airboost

A glitch like this is very fitting for a sonic game - a game that is about speed, Speed, SPEED!
I don't know if this is 100% true but i heard that it is 1)because of the engine unleashed and generations both use making this even possible
2)It's because with the amount stick placement the game isn't sure if you are trying to speed up or slow down and with the combination of high speed movements (spindash,Boost) the game either takes it as you are trying to speed up and triples or doubles your speed or the game is forced to make sonic faster making this glitch possible.
If you're playing as Modern Sonic, then just do a shorthop then a low airboost, then a full jump as soon as you land. No need to touch slide unless you're coming out of a scripted sequence or if you just touched a dash panel (since in those cases slide lets you maintain the speed you had before).
the crisis city act 1 glitch, do you spin then jump onto the ramp and then jump off the ramp? or do you just spin dash bounce off the robot land on the ramp and jump on the ramp?

Here's another glitch: In Classic Seaside Hill, equip the bubble shield and turn off athletisism. Use it at the rising and falling platform early in the level to go above a spot where you go underwater. Spin dash from up there. When you hit the cannon, the entire section will become invisible.

I managed to clip inside a wall in the Sky Sanctuary hub area using this glitch. When I got in, though, only way I could get out was to exit to the tile screen and get back into White Space, at the Death Egg Robot hub area.
Annotations now removed from UA-cam, any way to still see them anyone?

I know that you said the the modern speed glitch aren't as useful as the classic but the speed glitches can be very help helpful in the modern sonic's 30 sec trail for very large jumps if you time it right and find the right area.
The first 50 seconds is peaceful music while you read the description.
He does the slide because he's coming out of the loop and holding slide down lets you keep your speed from the loop/dash panel.

It could be one of two things... either you need to try to be more precise about it (it is a very small spot), or you need to stop playing the PC version. :P
No you don't need to do the rail glitch, but you do have to be moving fast enough.
btw tnks paraxade i finally got it first in modern, 3D mode u will tilt the stick or put the stick up litle as in if he walks so slow and try to boost and jump
Just mash the spindash button super fast or use a turbo controller and you will almost get to the spindash glitch speed.
i know something for modern sonic i made it up its called i cant stop boost u tap boost and go the opasite way of where the boost is going
As fair as I know modern sonic can't do it in generations 3DS but classic sonic has a glitch just like it 3DS generations. Spindash (or curl up into a ball.) Hold Down and forward while jumping to speed up. it's not as much as in the console version but it works.
Not even Shadow could keep up with the M speed lol. As for executing it, hmm, I'll try my luck from what I did with Unleashed.
Just boost immediately before touching the rail basically.
I almost want to set up a modded controller with what you describe here as the limit of the analog stick's possible range.
Not related to the comment before, but;
The Shadow glitch thing would barely work. Shadow is...'rubber banded' to you, so it's hard for him to fall behind.
I keep tilting it forward and it does increase the speed of my spin dash but isn't going nearly as fast as you are

Strange, just tried it myself and I can do it in those spots on PC no problem. The only thing that comes to mind is that your stick position must be a little off, or maybe you don't have enough speed when you jump.
Wow i found the sweet spot and i can hit it instantly in 3d and 2d i feel pretty badass right now not going to lie

It's possible yeah, but it doesn't work in as many places and it's overall less effective. I don't know why.
The point is more that it saves a ton of time.
I just start drifting between the two sets of rings and hold left, if there's a better way to do it than that I don't know what it is.
Believe me, as someone with both versions, it's definitely more limited on PC. What videos are you talking about? I can check them out.
there's also the down-right method - do the same as the up-right method except sonic goes from crouching to moving not looking up to moving lol

Can you also make a video, to explain in simple terms, how do people pull off the drift in GHZ Act 2, after you stomp down and break the wooden bridge near the end of the stage? That would be great!

my friend did the speed glitch by accident with modern Sonic, he was going insanely fast at first, then platforms & the ground started disappearing.
That would be QSS and it's an Unleashed glitch. It doesn't work in Generations.
Air boost is the easiest way to do it, but all you need to do to trigger the glitch is to get enough speed.

Could the issues with the PC version's difficulty performing this trick be caused by the higher frame rate? If I remember correctly, running the game above 30 fps can cause issues when wall jumping.
No you need analog for smaller amounts of direction and a keyboard is like a d-pad it can't sense pressure or like sensitivity it can only go in one set and analog can go and do everything

I wouldn't call this a glitch sonic spindash it's insanely powerful and it looks like he is utilizing this and jumping up slopes and hills to keep his momentum
no it's a glitch, doing it while holding it in any other position gives you no where near as much speed
