Might be a good idea to leave some grass headlands for the whole season. Will give you a place to turn drills, sprayers, combines, and grain carts

Up here in NE AB we’ve sprayed hay out and seeded right into it aswell as a lot of neighbour’s the key is to spray it in the fall tho the spray will kill everything spring is the worst we’ve tried it sprayed at the highest Roundup rate the alfalfa just comes right back

For many years we have taken grass land or hay land out with a tank mix that my field consultant came up with. Then we direct seed right in. We plant RR canola , that way you can still spray 2 morre times during the season. To get the grasses or alfalfa that come back. This usually gets a canola crop that is about 95% perfect. This leaves the field finish just about the same as the grass or hay field you had before. No need to worry about working after discing to get a seed bed created or loose moisture. I have been doing this for the past 15 years and successful everytime I did it this way . One year I really got behind to spray before the seeding . So I direct seeded right into the pasture (this time) and came in a few days later and spprayed the field . The pasture was by this time almosty 6-8 inches high . All turned out great

The grass field has a higher organic matter level and more biology in the soil than the dead tilled land that farmers create and has a much higher water infiltration rate and holding capacity than a dead tilled field. brain fart here but down here in the states we use disk opener drills i know that ground is not been worked in a bunch of years but something must be right that grass and cover is not shy about growing for the last few videos i have watched you up there i can see it getting taller here on yt could you get a disk opener drill and get some of it drilled to make a crop and burn it down in hopes next spring would bring better ground working conditions i do not know what that ground is like there i do not know i have seen sometimes looking in from different angle turn out pretty good and i have seen it flop like a dead cow

Hey Mike, is this raining/ playing in mud a norm here in planting season? If so, why bother?

Personally i would have disc seeded a canola crop in with triple disc seeder, wave disc up front. I farm in the wet and it aint easy, even getting a smaller rig to keep at north farm and go early if rain is more reliable. I feel your pain!!!

You are asking for the tap to be shut off as parts of Saskatchewan are in the midst of another MAJOR RAIN FALL.
You need to send the moisture south because even Saskatoon has too much moisture in some parts of the city.
