  • An easy-to-see dumping comparison between a carry-all and ejector scraper in free flowing sand.
Two basic style of pull type scrapers are currently on the market. The ejector style is typically what is most know as a "traditional" style scraper. This style of scraper uses a hydraulic cylinder to push material out of the bowl. A large self-propelled scraper utilizes this type of mechanism to dump material.
The second type of scraper is a carry-all style which pivots above the cutting edge and dumps material out rather than pushing it out. A carry-all style scraper typically will always be lighter than a like-sized ejector style scraper. This allows it to work in challenging ground conditions where a lighter footprint is needed. It also provides a faster dump cycle compared to an ejector scraper because material is being dumped out vs being pushed out with hydraulic force. In free flowing material such as sand is best suited for a carry-all scraper since carry back can be an issue with sticky clays. In those sticky materials an ejector is a better option because material can be forced out of the bowl by the ejector wall.

Great! I did read your description, thank you for that detail. Is it also true that ejector scrapers provide a more constant layer thickness of the deposited material, because the rate of ejection is constant, whereas the carry-all can be more uneven?

I would say it is much easier to hold a consistent lift with an ejector (or any fixed blade scraper) than a carry-all style. Operators that run carry-all units can lay down a very even lift as well, it’s just a different technique.
I make the distinction of “fixed blade” scrapers because there are some other manufactures that build fixed blade carry-all style units. It’s just that Deere’s carry-all units are all of the pivoting blade design.

@@jeepncj Thanks, that is interesting, I wasn't really aware of the differences around the blade being fixed or not.
