Valheim Review - The Final Verdict

  • Опубліковано 25 сер 2024
  • The Meadows, Black Forest, and Mistlands make up less than half of the seven biomes that are currently available in Valheim, and 2023 seems like it will bring at least one more at some point. Considering the game will only set you back $20 on Steam, the amount of challenge, fun, and content you get from Valheim makes it a fantastic deal. And, if you prefer to play on console, Valheim will be making its way to Xbox consoles in Spring 2023.
Regardless of how you choose to play Valheim, it is a fantastic survival crafting experience that is more than worth its cost for the potentially hundreds of hours you could spend in its world, and it will only get better with time.

It's not just killing a boss in that biome and move to the next. You will be traveling through all biomes all the time. Also, travel/exploring is a huge part as well

I had never played a survival game before but now have almost 1000 hours in Valheim... it should go without saying that I love it! Although It helps if you enjoy exploring or building as the combat is fairly simplistic. Once you have top tier armour/food with the latest boss powers, it becomes quite easy. However if you just reached a new biome and are equipped with gear from a previous biome, good luck and be extra careful at night!

Started this last night...played for 5 hours...couldn't stop. It feels like ARK survival evolved with its difficulty but for me the building aspect is huge. As someone whom works with construction, this game is very satisfying. Plus I love Viking themes.
I'd say this is a good full fledge survival game to try first if you have a friend to play with.

    • @capatheist

That’s a lame argument now… everyone knows that’s just legalese that allows some developers to release their game before it’s finished
And some developers to cover their ass perpetually (Fortnite)
But valheim is already as is… an absolutely top tier game. Beloved by fans,
And their team has no where near the resources available to them that games like Fortnite have.
They arnt deserving of the same criticism.
Without pre-release we either still wouldn’t have the game, or we’d have a shitty rushed product.
All that said… I agree that the full reviews should wait for the final two biomes to be finished.

I have 2K+ hours in this game, 30+ complete playthroughs and there is no slowing down for me. I LOVE this game. No world, no playthrough and no adventure is the same. RNG at its best - From ridiculous rewards at opportune times to brutal punishment for the smallest of mistakes. What Valheim has succeded in achieving is creating just the right atmosphere in this game. The lighting, the scenarie, the music, the sound effect and most importantly the "feel" of the game is just magical. Its also super easy to mod, and the modding community is very active if you ever get tired of the vanilla version.

Hands down best survival game available at the moment.
Food isnt a requirement to survive but basically enhances your health and stamina pool by 50-800%.
Technology progression is so damn smooth, you slowly get directed to new biomes simply by gathering and crafting the latest items then killing the boss will drop an item which unlocks new resources in the next biome (mining, opening crypts, finding hidden ore, etc).
The atmosphere that is created in this game is just brilliant, absolutely lovely.

I think the game is better with friends easier to get stuff done. I enjoy the fact you can play at your own pace I’m 900 days in and still collecting silver. Yes the graphics could be better but the games appeal isn’t destroyed by lack of stunningly rendered beasts. The building is fun and can be time consuming. Taming stuff etc is a game in itself within the game. The Biomes are atmospheric and Immersive especially swap and dark forest....not been much in plains mountains and mist lands. The sailing is fun and there are ways to quicken your development outside the game which is allowed. I would like to see recycling used more in the game at present you’ve got the Thor thing that carbonises articles placed in them. But maybe this could be use to return components even 50% would be good. Maybe the trader could buy more than rubies etc or exchange goods. That would make solo play easier. Yes looking at the UA-camrs the Ballistas need sorted in mistlands maybe they’ll be sorted by the time I get there....lovely game for rainy days in the house.

When you learn a bit, you can skip quite a lot of weapon/armor crafts and make only those that you know are good for your play-style. Saves a lot of grinding for resources. I recently started the game the 5th time to do some experiments I have not done before (I also play solo) and now, at day 30 I am already looking for my first 2 pieces of iron, and I even did not rush things at all. The only not-by-the-book things I did was that I totally skipped the first boss by using troll volunteers for ore mining and fine wood chopping, and did not build a big base (previous play-throughs taught me not to build a permanent base untill I get the stone-cutter). If I manage to find swamps/iron soon enough, I guess I will probably reach the "silver stage" by day 90 or sooner if I play "conventionally". Though I am debating myself on raising the stakes and try to avoid the second boss too, so probably it will take more time to get the iron for the pickaxe and forge upgrades :D Theoretically you can skip the first 3 bosses and get everything you need resource-wise anyway. Unfortunately, the 4th boss is crucial for further crafting development, which is one of the few things I do not like in Valheim (it takes away the choice not to fight or when to fight the boss).

(No spoilers)I just beat the game an hour ago(mistlands boss). The thing I loved the most about this game is finding out, learning, exploring. I promise you there's something you haven't seen if you're not over 1k hours. The biomes coexist, and can even destroy each other, pretty cool. The way you get better at the game is through knowledge and a bit of grinding.

This game is absolutely awful, I just don't get the hype. The combat is clunky, for some idiotic reason you can't teleport with ore so you constantly have to go back and fort, combine that with how stamina depletes super quickly and recharging takes forever and you get a game that feels like going to work. The AI of the enemies is bad. When you're just standing somewhere for some reason waves and waves of enemies keep comming, after you've defeated on wave another one always comes, you can't just stand and exist in the game without it shoving it's garbage combat system down your throat. An absolutely abysmal mechanic is the health, you get very low base health and stamina and have to eat to get a temporary buff which lasts about 20 minutes, but after 15 minutes it decreases to about a half. How about they stop introducing new biomes and make the game actually playable?

You have to think exploration through a bit more as death without a portal to get back to your stuff turns an easy day of mining into a tough challenge if you push beyond your gear/skill level too soon. I prefer playing with friends as we can team up against bosses/other which makes progression easier. Mistlands is brutal solo and I am often looking over my shoulder while bolting through in terror. As you learn to play the game, solo becomes a bit easier. You are welcome to hop on our server if you to learn as there are always a few who love to do the playthrough. By a long shot, imo. I have about 70 hours into V rising and almost 500 into Valheim currently, and it's all I've been playing for the last couple of weeks. Can someone explain the appeal of this game? It looks like an aimless Minecraft where you can build stuff, but with better graphics and with bosses you fight and NPC's that get in the way. Seems aimless though. Whats the point of building things? The game mechanics dont seem to have very much depth. I dont see any gameplay loops outside of "just build" which serve no purpose outside of creating buildings that look cool, which I can do in a 3d modeling program. I'm not making this comment to troll. I'm genuinely curious what is so intriguing about it. Are there skills you level up? Any real RPG like mechanics?

Any time I've seen videos of it, its people fighting an NPC, gathering resources, and building, and thats literally it. Building is a satisfying gameplay loop for some because the work you put in to gathering the resources makes your builds rewarding. This is the best survival game I ever played. 1000 plus hours into latest play-through. Avoiding Bonemass and beyond boss fights until game is ported to console and friends can join my server. Building and tweaking dwarf and draugr spawns and experimenting with wolf and boar breeding towers. Also love the grind and exploration in this game. Retrieving a longship load of iron from several swamp biomes to get back to main base is an Epic journey and feels like a real accomplishment. Also the build mechanics are so simple but the snap/clip system enables very custom builds and can get really creative to build beautiful castles and homes.

It literally ruins it for me almost because I ha s fo pretend like they're not there and with that being in the back of my head. Although I dont cheat, why is that allowed like. They literally couldve just made the game have forced open world pve/Pvp like rust but kept the exact gameplay so players had to compete to get better gear or get better at skills to use lower and lower gear until (like this mobile game frostborn" you could go out with a blue tiet set and still have fun even if you died because things were replaceable with a chance to get loot
