it does add a thousand -_- you add 40 to a thousand, add a thousand to that, add 30, add another thousand, add 20, add one more thousand then add 10.
i meant that fact that 40+30+20+10 doesnt=1000.......

But I had to read like ten comments tell me the exact same thing until I realised what they were trying to tell me. Everyone gets to 4090 just fine, but when he tells us to add ten it kinda makes you think that there is an extra 9 in there, or that you're adding 4990 and 10. It's good.

The trick is that the answer is actually 4,100. Almost everyone ends up at 5,000. The fact that the actual answer is 4,100 is the trick, itself.
Got 4100. When he said "Hopefully, the total you're at now is 5000", I was like... Jesus, how did I get that wrong.

flip that when your faced popped up i jumped out my seat!
I also got this one right the first time, but I did catch myself saying out loud, the incorrect number, but realizing I hadn't fully finished the addition before coming up with the sum, so I quickly revised my addition and got the correct number. But I've always been fairly bad at math and over the years learned I have to double-check my mental math pretty regularly, so I don't think I'm one of the people this trick was intended for.
I'm an A student in math plus and it took me 7 tries to get it right!
OMG! Had to do it over and over but finally got it right! This is so cool!
The mistake is that 4090 sounds to our mind like 49. 49 plus 10 is 50, and we know the answer is in the thousands so then we add the two zeroes to make 5000. My guess is that people who think in a language other than English will not make this particular mistake.

No, he says things like that to make the trick look better. It's a stage magician thing. If you watch some of the other tricks he posted you'll notice that's a pattern.
Ah I see. When adding the last 10 to 4090, your mind fucks you and says its 5000.

1000 = 4090 + 10 = 4100, But When You Add It In Your Head, You Instantly Think 5000, Therefore, This Trick Proved Itself.

The trick was in the end....... When he said to add 10 to 4090 people thought it was 5000, but it is actually 4100

The trick is, most human minds will automatically jump to 5000 because this is what the mind expects. Just like people read this wrod correctly sometimes because you're mind automatically corrects it.
The trick is when you reach 100 of of the 10's your mind will automatically add a 1000 in stead of 100 with out noticing.

I got 4100 the trick is when you get up to 4090 you add 10 and the first thing you do is suddenly make 5000 of it instead of 4100
if you didn't get 4100 its because when you got to 4,090 you didn't add 10, you added 910

first time thru i didn't pay attention and i got 5000. 2nd time i got it. when you add the last 10 you jump from 4090 to 5000 when you do it quickly in your mind.
I get it 1000 + 40=1040+1000=2040+30=2070+1000=3070+1000=4070+20=4090(here's the tricky part) 4090+10=not 5000 but 4100 because you're doing it in your mind it's a bit harder, I got it on my third try, my teacher used to call me a math maticiab
I would be surprised that anyone would actually get 5,000. It's pretty simple and I suck at math. I knew it was 4,100 and when he first said 5,000 I was like WTF? I don't think this would fool anyone. Hopefully not anyway.
It's because of many people's brains not remember the part about it being counted in thousands and it switches to hundreds and since he's saying 'thousand' repeatedly, the brains switch to hundreds but keep saying thousands because it's stuck in the head. And no, it does full more than 50% of the people, and you just outsmarted the thing since you were thinking it slowly.

4100 do this slowlt n you will get it, have a good 1.
if u add all the 1000's first and add the ten's afterwards , you always get 4100
you shouldn't most people don't think in thousands, more like hundreds, so when he says to add the thousands ur mind will tend to see 4990, before you add the last 10. It is actually 4090 when the 10 is added it makes 4100.

sorry , tried to get 5000, closest I came to finding out the possible error step was that instead of adding 10 to 4090 and making it 4100, they erroneously added 100 to 4900. but how would someone mistake 4090 for 4900 AND AT THE SAME TIME ALSO mistake 10 for 100 ? please let me know I would love to know the exact place where this happened.
And to tell you the truth I myself got 5000 the first time. but since then I have been getting 4100 and I am not able to recreate my first error however deliberately careless I try to be. please tell me where did we commit the error. is the step that I mentioned , the culprit? just that how could I mistake 4090 for 4900.

How do people get 5000?
this trick will only work on 60% off people...some people calculate differently from others so when answering the 3rd question some people would interprit this diff and its a basic trick off numbers using the digits in the equation...
I got it the first time. When he said add 10 I thought of 5000 half of a second and then got it. I think of the equations like images in my mind. Is it why I got it or everyone is like me. What's the matter with me? Am I abnormal or genius?

Uhhhhh I got it right on the first go. There was one part where I said in my head 1,400 and then I quickly caught myself. Its easiest to say the numbers as two separate numbers like 10-40 instead of 1,040.
