That insulator came with my OEM manifold too, its for a newer model Ford. I put in on and tried it, but it was a hair too bulky and the manifold wouldnt' seat well. It was an engineers upgrade, maybe they didnt want engine heat affecting the intake. I left it off. Thanks for your video, it helps remembering what came off and when back on memory Lots of parts cleaning, kinda messy job. I would expect a shop to charge 1,400 for this job. Aftermarket manifolds, wouldnt try them. Alot of ford dealerships advertise these Ford OEM ,s I got mine for 207.00 Just type the model # in , and these websites will pop up
I wish my F250 had a dog house for rear entry. I had to cut off my EGR tube because it seized to the exhaust manifold and it had my valve cover pinned between it, the fuel rail and firewall. It would've been awesome if I could have pulled the cover out from the rear.
at 15:26 at the very back passenger side of the intake you can see an opening in the head. I just purchased a 99 expedition and changed the coolant but found that when the upper radiator hose is squeezed, coolant comes out of that hole. Does anyone know if this is normal and if not, what might a solution be?
Steven Dowd I definitely would not think it's normal but I can't see very well at 15:26. Maybe a cracked head. If you are lucky it's a freeze plug or the intake because there are coolant passages back there
Joe Shearer I found the issue. It wasn’t actually coming from the opening, which is the opening that the thermostat is over when the head is on the driver side. It was coming from the pipe that comes out of the intake and connects to a heater hose. It just filled the hole with coolant so it appeared to be the source at first
It wasn't too bad. I split it up into two half days and did plugs and boots and cleaned out the intake ports too. Have you watched the fordtechmakuloko videos
I have head gaskets to do on 97 e350 5.4l . Bought van last year and been putting money into it since. Want to use 86 f250 for personal use and van for business. Paid $500 for van
Jon HVAC might not be very long until he gets a new vehicle. Scotty Kilmer UA-cam Car Guy does not recommend cleaning engines he says too many electronic devices will fail

Glad you had a smooth job. I'm glad I didn't even attempt to use that insulation
Good work Joe, bet it feels good to have your van running top notch again and having the satisfaction of doing it yourself!
motoYam82 you bet Ivan! thanks for watching and commenting.
I got the same problem with my E150 2006 but idk if I can do it myself
Mine had the exact same leak in the exact same area. Took me around 5 hours. Definitely a job.

Was coolant going into your exhaust?
kchilz32 no it wasn't
likely radiator replacement coming soon, plastic tank will probably crack and leak near the hose. :(
Purring like a kitten, nice work. Don't ya just love van life?
I work on my own vehicles too. old school
joshua G I try to do as much as I can myself too
with all the big money you make from HVAC should buy a new van every year?
THE GENIUS yea sure cause we make so much lol
I get a new truck every year and have a new spare truck on stand by...just in case yall.
Jon HVAC they just look identical but they ARE different trucks!
Joe Shearer so you have two 16 year-old vans? You bring great shame to this family😿
Jon HVAC might not be very long until he gets a new vehicle. Scotty Kilmer UA-cam Car Guy does not recommend cleaning engines he says too many electronic devices will fail
I'll stop bitching about no room in my Expedition engine bay to work. Yikes.
