    Well done Adam, golf is a strange game. You can feel like you have hit the ball crap but still get a good score. Other days you can feel as if you have hit the ball well but the score just does not show it. 🤔. I agree with you regards swing thoughts. If you commit to a working setup routine and a shot plan then the swing will take care of itself.

    On several occasions I heard you say something to the effect of: "I have to play away from the trouble here..." when there was trouble on the right. This makes sense of course and, like me, you tend to draw the ball most of the time. I think you could help yourself a bit more if you took advantage of the full width of the teeing area. I noticed that you tend to, more or less, always tee the ball up in the middle of the teeing area. You could increase your margin for error if you teed up on the far LEFT side of the teeing area, even to the point where you are physically standing outside of the "box" (as long as your ball is still inside the box). This move gives you more room to miss to the left. Sure, you could still push it once in awhile but you'll miss left less frequently if you tee to the far left side of the tee box. I enjoy your vids. I love how you plan your way around the golf course. More players would score much better if they left their ego at home and simply played smarter. It's easy to score better without making any changes to your swing if you just employ a little bit of logic. Well done.

    • @slmmcgee8686
      @slmmcgee8686 Рік тому

      Problem is that everyone’s shot pattern misses both left and right, even if they happen to miss left more often than right. If you know the average dispersion distance left/right with most clubs you hit tee shots with, then you can split the difference with your target line, so that a big miss either side doesn’t find trouble. If the dispersion left/right is too wide for the trouble on the hole, club down to a club that’s dispersion doesn’t find trouble.

    I hear you say often that the game starts within 100 yards but, honestly, I think a lot of that stems from the fact that you are a reasonably accurate driver of the golf ball. As someone in the opposite position, who struggles to have control over woods, it sure doesn’t feel that way. Arccos tells me I’m equivalent to a 2 handicap in short game and a +2 in putting, and I am better than my handicap in approach (5 handicap, would be even better if >150 approach didn’t count) but I remain a 9 handicap because of terrible driving accuracy (19 handicap).
    So I think a lot of how to think about the game depends on where you come from. If I focused on 100 and in I’d never improve.

    • @willscarborough9089
      @willscarborough9089 2 роки тому

      I’m sure you have but have you tried alternatives like driving irons or higher lofted woods? Someone with a high swing speed can usually handle a driving or utility iron and if your speed is lower a club like a 7 wood can give you more height and forgiveness out of the box.

    • @michaelswisher8630
      @michaelswisher8630 2 роки тому

      I completely agree with you on this. The first shot is the most important shot on any hole (whether par 3, 4 or 5) because it sets up everything else. I have retired my driver and use only a 5 wood for driving. Keep searching for the right driving club.

      @NotAScratchGolfer  2 роки тому +2

      You're right. My unabridged mantra is, "keep it in play and be tidy inside 100." It's absolutely necessary to put the ball in play off the tee in order to score. *Once* you've done that, then I think the game inside 100 yards is much more important than the game from 100-200 yards (i.e. iron game).

    Remember Adam missing a putt low if the amateur miss. Obviously we’re both amateurs but giving ur putts a little more respect and missing more on the high/pro side gives a lot of putts a better chance of going in. Once a putt is low it has no chance but a putt that is high can always sneak in and it will always leave u a shorter putt coming back. Keep up the good work!

    Manage your expectations has been my new moto headed on the course these days. While I have not played much better, my attitude and feeling and enjoyment is good. Thank you for posting these videos as it helps me better understand how to think when I am playing and trying to manage my game. My new thinking is each hole is it's own adventure and I try to solve how best to play after every shot. I start off by saying where is the best place to drive the ball to. When it is in play, i then look and say, what is the best shot to play depending on the circumstance? This has helped me not only play the holes better, but also trying to forget the last hole or what my score is.

    Swing with shorter irons looking real good. If you can raise the angel just a bit with your driver (long irons, hybrids) you'll be golden. It's ok that you are a bit shallow. You can still square it up upon impact. It's almost impossible to square up if you come in to steep, so that's ok. But try it. Raise your driver a tad in backswing, and you naturally swing so much from the back/inside which allows you to turn and square up the face. Get that and you'll see your consistency lvl rise dramatically

    • @mrkennam
      @mrkennam 2 роки тому

      A shallow swing is better than to steep, but if you try to not overuse your upperbody in the backswing, not swinging back so extreme, you'll come in with the feeling of striking shallow, but atm your definitely gonna pull it often with strong hooks/draw.
      You irons look better. And that overuse of upperbody screws with your club head delivery. Because you naturally swing shallow you can end up striking the ball real good, cause it's easier to square up when naturally shallow than naturally steep. Good luck bro
