What a tip!! Watched this video before I went to the driving range tonight and gave it a go. Ball striking was unbelievable. Best 100 balls I've hit in a long time. Cheers Russ 👍
Sounds like me. Until next time and something else is wacked out :) I remember moving the ball in my stance back about 3 inches and started drawing the ball with ease. The next time I went out to replicate and shyt was banana's. Golf is complex with mechanics and repetition.
Practice "the tilt and you will become more and more comfortable with it. You are " loading up" as I.mentioned. Glad you.liked the tip!!
Great video. MAkes such a huge difference. After losing confidence in my irons and hitting a mixture of flippy hooks and weak fade, this straightened me right out with a much more penetrating ball flight.
Thanks Russell, much appreciated: always had trouble shifting to my left side on the downswing, but with your tips on right shoulder down & pelvis to the left, worked wonders on the driving range 3 days straight!
I started doing this about a month ago and it has greatly enchanted my impact position. Been able to achieve a perfect fwd shaft lean, and picked up about 8 yards per club. Proper weight shift is everything… this move sets you up perfect.
Exactly the video that I've been looking for! I've been wondering a lot about all the things that you talked about in this video. And now it's all there in one short and sweet video! Excellent! Thanks a lot, Russell!
Amazing videos. I'm 53 years old and love the game of golf. Your instruction is easy to understand and implement. I will be recommending your videos to my friends. Thanks for the great instruction.
Never thought of that setup applying to irons, that’s my driver thought but I’ll give it a go. I am doing better with your ball position forward drills to help avoid fat shots. Thanks Russ.
Tip of the year! Simple but absolutely fundamental.
Russel strikes again 😊 Simple explanation, simple tip that made a Hugh difference on the range. Thx 🙏🏻
For consistency this is critical. It promotes droping into the slot at the start of the down swing. If I may make one suggestion sir I got your video which was excellent by the way, Put a brighter background along the wall of what you were standing in front of or wear clothing that is more in contrast because it’s a little bit difficult to see your body movement because your clothing blends in with the background especially on cell phones and smaller. Just my two cents. Success always! Dr. D.
Really interesting tip. I’m trying to work with downswing and keeping hands ahead of club head. Need to test this one as it seems to help you staying behind the ball.
Awesome video Russell! I think this will really help me as I have an issue with coming up. I will try this out tomorrow. Cheers!
Great way of simplifying proper setup & natural tilt
Wow it really helped me on the range; looking forward to the next round. It's a tip keeper.
I've been applying this (almost subconsciously) with my hybrid with great results and a real feeling of passing that trail shoulder underneath. Def. going to try this on some shorter irons.
I find myself doing the same thing, with all my irons too. Found better results when I noticed myself doing this.
This is the way I setup my body on address.Really help to promote in to out swing path and consistent impact position. Thanks for the vid
This is the first golf clip I have watched and I am now a subscriber. Loved the tip. The delivery was clear concise and simple to grasp. I can't wait to try it on the range and during the weekend comp. Already eager to check the rest of your content
Thanks
Another great one my man you give legitimate knowledge in a way that’s understandable to everyone
Good visuals. working on hands ahead at impact with secondary tilt. Think I now get a little of why some golf greats have said it 'feels' like they are pulling the club through impact. Having a visual of that 4:25 position (and the club face square/releasing down the target line) suddenly made the set up of head behind with tilt 'click' (seem the natural thing to do). The results are amazing, easy swings create high straight bombs (taken 30 years to break 80 again this week). Also liking Matt Wolfs pre-swing hip twist. Still have work to get it ingrained and going to check on trail arm bent position.
Great video! One small recommendation on presentation: shift from Left/Right to Front/Rear, Forward/Trail or something like that (you *sometimes* do this, but not consistently). As a southpaw, I'm incrementally falling behind in the video because I have to do these little pauses to invert the instructions as I am listening. If you keep it simple - front/rear - everyone takes in and consumes that data universally. Keep it up!
These are exactly my issues. Can’t wait to try this!!
BEST ADVICE EVER! Simple and easy to follow which makes you much more consistant. Thank you, golf is fun again!
👍🏻
Thanks Brian
Nice, just what I needed.
Thanks
Great video. Thank you Russell.
I am so excited to test this out!
Nice video and a really sound tip. Thank you. 👍😎🇦🇺
Very well explained Sir 👏
Like how you explained the causality of doing things the wrong way.
Lovely tip that thanks
Great video. Thank you.
This sounds like it will help me a lot!! Thank you!!😄
Wow BRILLIANT Rus, thnks got it ...Finally, crunching my irons PERFECT
4:37 - Can't ask for better position than that, and this will help a lot of amateurs stabilize the clubface. Now for the freebie. To help REALLY stabilize the clubface, we will use a seldom known technique. At address, grip the club with your trail hand and rotate the shaft towards the target, then bring it back to neutral. Now switch to your lead hand, and rotate the shaft AWAY from the target, then bring it back to neutral. Now for the special sauce; Place both hands on the grip and attempt to rotate the shaft with each hand, as you did before, but at the SAME TIME. The hands (using the forerarms, not the shoulders) should be working AGAINST each other, so you may have to grip a little firmer than normal when first learning this. This creates a HUGE stablization on the entire shaft rotation and thus the clubface. This should also bring your elbows together, pointing down or just to the side of your belly-button, and you should also feel your chest muscles contract, as everything will become as one unit, from your hands all the way up to your chest. I guarantee you'll hit the ball straighter than you ever have in your life!
How crazy is it that I just tried this in my dining room (trying to make sense of it) and was like “HOLY CRAP!” Really does provide super stabilization. And I really needed the bc my takeaway has been a shaky mess lately. Thanks bro! Looking forward to taking this to the range next week.

what a great tip
You lost me at “stabilize the club face” sorry.😳😳😳
Thanks for the lessons.
TW IS PLAYING THE MASTERS!!
Brilliant Lesson!!!!!
The lightbulb went on. Great explanation! 😀
Great information, thanks
This is a great video! Thank you.
Hola .
Soy hcp 21.
Thank you!
Brilliant! Thank you!
This is the best golf tip I've ever had if there's a secret to golf it's this
3:25 Extensor Action 6B1D. The Golfing Machine.
great explanation
Excellent video. I do find that of my trail arm is more straightish at address my miss is a left shot as a right handed player.
This is GOLD!!!!
Thank u
I have started doing this couple month ago not sure it is the right way or not. This help me to keep my head more stable and less club face rotation. This video confirm that I am on the right path.
Homer Kelley .... figured this out about 70 years ago. Lots of good golf machine content out here on YT.
Going out to try it today!
I call this "the.load" where you incline your body or have a "tilt" behind the ball . .I believe.this puts you in an "incline" position for better contact and more speed when you make contact!!
Sounds good!!
Holy cow, I just discovered this today at the range (kind of creepy that this video shows up now). Finally I was getting that punch sound to my irons.
Just took a lesson working on this very thing. Was hitting most shots thin or topped before I tried this setup. This helped immensely . Thanks!
Very good tip ty
Great post
Very good advice
What's helped me is setting up my club about 2" behind the ball after getting lined up
Nice lesson!!!
thanks.
Will be trying this out the next time I am at the range. Makes so much sense.
People make fun of Matt Wolfe and his “tick” but what folks don’t REALIZE is it came from his coach and it does EXACTLY this, coach was asking him to show his position on impact, remember amateurs, COMPRESS COMPRESS COMPRESS
Watched for years now and I have seen this set up. When I set up on the left with a slight spine tilt I feel like I am going to bring the club to much inside a little more is this just a feeling, don't need to roll club. Thanks much.
Good stuff.
Great and simple tip, tried it and it improved ball striking immediately. Thanks
Use this analogy. Think about swinging an axe and chopping a tree down, with the ball being the bottom of the tree and where you want to swing the axe. It keeps you behind the ball, swinging with your trail should down, and through the ball. Works every time!! Also, you need a strong grip and closed club face!
Very good.
I tried what u said about strong & closed missed most shots to the left. Draw or hook mostly, can't figure the correct way to do it. Will keep working on it
@@j1238066 Check out Shawn Clement in You Tube. He is the one I learned it from.
@@j1238066 Watch this video.....ua-cam.com/video/huN2J6ILlls/v-deo.html
@@j1238066 That is happening because you are flipping the club to square it and you are focusing on the ball and NOT the target!! Watch this video...ua-cam.com/video/huN2J6ILlls/v-deo.html
I think what often causes the tendency to lift up is due to the mental worry that you're going to duff or bottom out the club before the ball.
I think this often comes due to lifting up/down in the backswing.
Additionally, I think focus target groundout of the club should be after (in front) of the ball, about 2-10inches depending on the club.
Man, how frickin good is that, where we’re you all my life 👍🏼
🙏🏻
Never heard anyone mention about the grip like this. You got a video just on the grip? Thanks

🍻 Russell.
Great content! Would you consider in the future making a similar video for Driver for Juniors what be the most forgiving, price point. Distance, what degree setting 10°/ 12°,etc. My son is in USKidsGolf - LA tour
Great tip.
Thanks
I may be behind the times, but thats the first rhumba ball retriever ive seen. Excellent lol
For decades, they say to put weight on front foot thus leaning forward! Thanks for debunking this myth...
Hi Russell; I just finished watching this video & have a comment about the set-up position. It seems that your demonstration regarding keeping the head back & the rear shoulder tilt looks much the same as the driver set-up & could result in an upswing. I know you should be behind the ball, but I didn't know it should be with that much spine tilt.
Mo Norman from Canada did this.
Hi Russell, Liking what I see here, I can see how this would help with shaft lean at impact also, just wondering does this new set up position affect weight distribution at address? What is the weight distribution from this set up? cheers Jeff
No you can still start central or left if you prefer
It works
Great to hear
I’ll try this today on the DR, I’m curious if it works!
Now I know why my wedge shots on short par threes end up in the left bunker.
Great advice. Question: should I change ball position as I make this swing change? Would I have a tendency to bottom out too early if I don't move the ball back a smidge?
You should move to your lead side in the down swing. This would reduce the early low point
@@russellheritagegolf What seems counterintuitive to me is that you’re making it harder for yourself to have the low point after hitting the bal by leaning a bit to the right, does that make sense?
Thank you Russell - have to test it...question - how to adapt this set up and the sequence of movements to a driver, pls? Regards from Poland!
Sam thing
Great vudeo
How do you continue to compress the ball at impact while doing this drill? I would think this would encourage more of a sweeping, hitting on the upswing motion, just like the driver? No?
You need a shallowing hit to compress with shaft lean
Russell would this setup be more appropriate for your 4,5,6 irons and hybrids? What about the higher lofted clubs such as 8, 9 iron and wedges?
You can do what works best for you
Basically the reverse K position.
Could this be what I’ve been searching for?
Will try it because I think it is. Thanks.
Let me know
Here’s what I learned. The R. H. preset of head behind and hands ahead needs reps to feel right. I still hooked irons left by rolling grip over through impact. Learned that from from R. H. My solution for hitting irons straight at target was part R. H. and part Pelz chip with 8 iron. Hands ahead, yes, but ball way back so contact preceded and precluded any rollover. This actually produced straight short iron shots just as Pelz chip produced straight chips.
Sehr gut👍🇨🇭
Just made me top the ball
I am afraid if I just took what you say here.. I may loose or not remember to put the weight I really need on the lead foot. I wish you would have added that part in along with the focus on the trail side/shoulder starting off lower.
Is this just for irons or can it be for all clubs in the bag?
All
How do you avoid hitting the ground first with that much lean to the dominate side?
You will move to your lead side in the down swing. This will move the low point
04:17
When I use this method, I hit behind the ball. Probably because my center of gravity ( my chest ) is over the ball or behind it. Either I'm doing something wrong or this tip is not for me. Some things I read suggest placing my chest in front of the ball. The exact opposite of what you are saying.
Oh, I do have one question, though. Whenever I do the head behind the ball/upper body tilt at set up, I seem to chunk/fat the shot more often. How does one overcome this?
Most likely your weight is hanging back through impact, you still need to shift forward. Also I’ve found that this is something you do slightly, just as much as the body naturally tilts when placing the trail arm lower on the grip of the club
@@Seneale Cheers, Niklas!
You could also try narrowing your stance with your feet, this can Help you shift over to the front foot easier (this Held me back massively)
Tilting the spine backwards sets the sternum behind the ball at impact, great for drivers but irons? hmmm I can see why people would be hitting lots of fat shots with this set up if they are not careful.
You need to move more to your lead side in the downswing 👍🏻
I almost broke my 🪟 trying this set up definitely will try it on my buddy on Monday hahahah evil can't play golf but I'm learn dammit 😅
Could this cause fatty shot?
No it’s how your hands move that will cause inconsistency
Be careful with chipping and pitching. Too much spine tilt will make you hit it fat. I like to “feel” my shoulders flatter and head more forward for chipping.
Yep, not suggesting this for short game
Let's get stuck In 🤔
Reminds me of a Dan Whittaker setup
