- After one and a half months of work, my Saxxy submission is finally done.
This is my fifth Source filmmaker video, and my first one over 20 seconds. I've barely done any animation before Source Filmmaker, but I'm quite satisfied with the result.
This nearly took all my "spare time", but I enjoyed most of it. So I guess that means this might not be the last video from me!

Outstanding on getting the story down here. I liked how this focused mainly on character actions rather than dialogue by using music to set the mood and well timed sound effects when needed. Again, good job telling a story using this method with great execution along with very good animation and cinematography. It's a unique idea and works solidly in this video, so props to you.

I really like this not only because the engineer is sorta the main character but also blu are the good guys in this and in every other sfm ever its always the reds that are good.
Neither are them are good guys ._.
RED are the lively, rowdy team whereas BLU is the professional, colourless team. the bad guys are BLU because of this. (my favourite team is BLU because they look cooler and are the villains)

Ok. Even though I commented on this very video, about this very subject, and I was right back then too, I'll say it again: the sniper is NOT supposed to be BLU in the first act. He's no double agent. He was just so honor-bound, that when his teammate pulled a gun during a friendly negotiation, he pulled his own gun on his teammate, NOT because he was a BLU plant. Give the sniper more credit.

Walrus Overlord How about when the spy suggests they put their guns down at the standoff? The sniper looked at him with newfound respect, because he was impressed the spy's honorability in trying to end things peacefully. Of course, the spy's trademarked backstabbing, but the sniper didn't know that at the time.
Walrus Overlord The sniper switched teams. See, he was part of RED during the negotiation, but he wasn't about to go back to RED, he'd just pissed them off. So he went with the Engineer.

Falcon Flier Nah right after the negotiation the blu team had less players than the red team so sniper was auto moved to balance teams, he was mad at the time but he had a week to get over it

The negotiations were short.
This looks like an interesting story. Let's see if I got the plot right…BLU Engie meets up with three REDs to receive intel but it double-crossed by RED Spy. RED Sniper doesn't like the double-cross and pulls his gun on Spy, so RED Demo pulls a gun on him. Engie manages to escape with the intel. Cut to a week later on a RED train where two BLUs are trying to…set off a bomb? And did the RED Sniper change sides or something? It looked like the BLU Sniper was wearing the same white hat as the RED one before he swapped it for the brown hat.
You got the story right...the whole Week later part was the spy catching up to the two now BLU agents, but failed miserably in his plan to end them. Though the Cloak and Dagger placement still bothers me...

So I see that many people are confused, so here's the run-down.
There's the four guys, Spy, Engie, Demo, and Sniper. Even though the sniper dressed red, he was with the blu Engie.
The spy and Engie were trading, the intelligence for a team captain. The spy pulled a gun on the Engie because he didn't want to trade, but keep both. The sniper pulled a gun on the spy because the Engie and sniper were partners, the demo pulled a gun on the sniper because he and the spy were partners, and the Engie pulled a gun on the demo because he had a gun at the sniper. (Then there's the part where they all change targets at the same time, and the Engie and sniper didn't pull a gun on each other at all, same for the spy and demo) Then the spy tells them all to place their guns down (which they do) while the spy has a knife behind his back. The snipers notices the spy's odd behavior and subtlety signals the Engie to be careful. The spy pulls a knife, the Engie blocks, and then a fight
The sniper and Engie escape with the bomb plans, with the spy and demo furious for escaping them.
A week later the sniper and Engie go to bomb a train (for unknown reasons) filled with Reds. They sneak around, find a good spot for the bomb, and get stopped by the spy and demo, who managed to catch up with them. They were held hostage, until the sniper finds an invisible watch and uses it when the demo wasn't looking. That distracts the spy enough for the Engie to escape out the window. Finally, the spy vs Engie everyone wanted in an update. The Engie turns on the bomb, it goes off, temporarily blinding the Engie enough for the spy to get close and knock him down. (keep in mind everyone IN the train is dead) right as the spy was about to finish the Engie off, the sniper comes back and shoots the spy

I gotta say, this is amazing. Your video is the first video of tf2 I've seen that really flows smoothly wioth the characters movements, they aren't sudden, or jittery. It is truly a work of art. Hats off to you mate, no idea why this wasn't a winner or runner-up :/, gratz.

spy asks soldier and demo to go search for the cloaked sniper, engi escapes with detonator, we then see demo and soldier NOT searching for the sniper, but sitting down, for no fucking reason.
This is one of the best TF2 animations I've seen in a good long time, great job
this definitely should have won the saxxy 2012s. it is incredibly hard to express emotions across a video without sound. and as the video states, the sound was composed mainly of music and sound effects. no words where spoken. you relied on facial expressions and gestures for most of the video, which takes talent to do and is very hard to do reliably. hats off to you good sir.

In my opinion, this was a very well done and extremely smooth animation. Not many people can do something like this, especially if this is one of their early animations. Plus, the storyline made sense to me. This does not look at all sloppy and rushed. You did a great job!

Uber Scout I know ive played tf2 for a good amount if time not a f2p put hours into it so trust me i know but in actual tf2 not source film maker different class dont use other weapons just you know, a core rule in th game unless u r playing randomizer servers

+Red Spy as much as I hate this guy, he's right. both the engi and the sniper are prime targets of the spy. spy was designed for killing them especially. in fact, spies kill snipers so often that sniper actually has a special shield to protect him from backstabs. and for engi, there's the sapper.

I don't know why, but I really like this short. I think it is because of how none of the mercs talked, and let their expressions speak for them. Awesome work, mister Zands.
ehh meh. it was kinda good, but i mean. it's "antagonist" in the film were just plain stupid and were like "oh he's gone, better let the engi. go, he's not smart enough to escape." the they forget about all of it like a few seconds later. these are things that really can't be justified. also it's rather Cliche since it's spy villain, red team (and or blu teams) is triumphed over by the other team. why not a mix of both. that would actually show a lot of emphaty for the opposite team and make this film better. my opinion though. still a rather bland film.
Actually, it was more of a moment of relapse for the Spy forgetting about the Engineer for a moment, thinking he still had him under control. If you start off with the beginning, the story actually has a interesting set up.
3 Reds meet with a BLU in order to negotiate for intelligence. Sniper, Spy, and Demoman Versus a Blu Engineer. Spy and Demoman decide to double cross Engineer, but doesn't keep Sniper in the loop. Sniper turns on Spy, and in turn Demoman pulls a gun on him. In the end of the Brawl, Sniper and Engineer escape with the Intel, and Sniper joins Blu Team.
Time-lapse to another mission a week later, where Sniper and Engineer are working to grab a sort of Bomb to derail the train.(This part gets a little choppy). Demo-man catches the Sniper first and holds him at gun-point, while Spy ambushes Engineer as he is about to take out Soldier. It was a trap, and the Spy thought he finally had them. HOWEVER while Demo-man was talking, Sniper grabbed a Cloak and Dagger that was left on the ground and escapes, and in turn, causes the Spy to yell at him how he could've possibly lost him, and then loses Engineer himself....
Spy literally snaps mentally, goes on the roof, and the rest is self explanatory.
Its not that the story is bland, but the Whole, "Spy is Villain," Though cliché, actually works for this story, because of all classes to backstab you, why not a Spy? and if you actually think about it, the original plan might have been to take the intelligence anyways, so Sniper might have actually been the Villain the entire time because he betrayed his team.
I guess it just goes with how you want to read the story, and sorry this is so long....Just the whole, "Rather Bland film." didn't fit well...
that was even more fucking convenient than today action movie, not to mention the gigantic group of apologist behind this shit

Okay let me explain a little bit of stuff here, the sniper at the first are indeed red, but because the spy broke the rule of negotiation, he tried to kill him, then the sniper change side.
