Binging with Babish: Biscuits from Ted Lasso

- Ted Lasso's optimistic, unflappable energy didn't just win over the hearts of the footballers he coached; this past year, audiences everywhere were swept up in his Kansas City charm. Now his crumbly, buttery shortbread biscuits can win you over no matter what scumbag ex-husband's reputation you seek to sabotage, thanks to this simple-but-loving recipe.

Tea is actually pretty good. Once you add milk and sugar. And dip biscuits in it.
mm
And remove the garbage water.
And an ice cube so it's not so hot.
Babish now you said this I may live in peace
Forget the milk and biscuits, then cool it down
What do you mean I’m biased to iced sweet tea?
The scene where it's revealed Ted makes the shortbread on his own and puts them in the cute pink box was just so sweet honestly
(edit: corrected for grammar lol)
I know right? That man just oozes positivity
The box of biscuits looked as sweet as Ted lasso himself
Right???
“I finally cracked the receipt” and then you can see Rebecca just die a little after what she just did
So people actually have and watch apple TV?
I love the fact that “regular sized whisk” now has to be specified
Well after tiny whisk empire took all the power, this needs to be specified!
Lol
And it forever will 😌
Yes 👍
Tiny whisk has cornered the market
For April Fool's Day, make Steamed Hams complete with a ruined roast, a burned-down kitchen, and a web of lies to the guest(s) of your unforgettable luncheon.
He makes steamed hams.
He already made Steamed Hams.
/watch?v=xrwylERNsbc
Enjoy.
Already made
@@ThePowerofCutleries I saw that video. Unfortunately not everyone knows that he made the video, since it was not on his channel.
@@ThePowerofCutleries That was on a different channel/show, not "Binging With Babish". Also, there was no ruined roast or "Aurora Borealis" involved, so it doesn't count.
Oh Babish, Ted would never let you punish yourself for that slip. He’d tell you to be a goldfish and forget about it.
“Be curious, not judgmental”
I waited nearly 4 minutes for you to exclaim "f*ck, me!"
The depth of my disappointment is infinitely vast.
so your disappointment is immeasurable and your day is ruined?
Yeah, I presumed that they were going to be referred to "F*ck me shortbread" at some point. 🤷♀️
@@reescano9994 exactly.
I too long for those words, passionately whispered into my ear from Mr. Babish.
It would have to be in an English accent anyway though lol
"the british equivalent of a glove" I think that's just a glove, unless I should have been calling them warmington handboroughs this entire time
Enh, I wear gauntlets.
Well, now I have echolalia on “warmington handboroughs”, thanks. Gonna have to keep saying it for a few hours to get it out of my system.
That’s what they call it in Birmingham I think
Ahh, the warmth of handsor's hearth holders.
Ok, so we have “Tiny Whisk” and “Regular Sized Whisk” where’s “Giant Whisk” 🤔
Probably the stand mixer whisk attachment.... Too big to be used effectively by hand.
I actually have a giant whisk hanging on the wall in my kitchen. It's around 3 feet long. I would love to see him use that in an episode, lol
@@gir850 That one’s for fighting intruders though, right? That’s why I got the deluxe 50cm pepper mill in my kitchen.
Comically sized whisk
@@Psykel wait
What I love about this recipe is that ted ate those once and just went "yeah I can make those" and then he did
You brought this on yourself, Fringing with Frabish.
Yeah
That sounds like a 90’s hacker film.
Ah, but he is bereft of a fringe for proper fabishment.
The sausage man waits for none
cringing with crabish
"Fits like whatever the British equivalent of a glove is"
Disappointingly Babish, it's a glove. In Scotland shortbread is a traditional first-foot gift (the first person who visits your house after the New Year) and is often made in a round and cut in to triangles called Petticoat Tails.
Ooo fancy
It's a joke
@@kamcorder3585 Ya think?
as a native scot, what on earth are you on about? shortbread comes in fingers primarily, the only wedge shaped ones I've seen are part of an assortment box.
also never heard of the "first foot" thing, thats just weird.
They may take our shortbreads, but they shall never take our... BIKKIES!!!
Babish called them "gloves" when they're actually called "handy dandy fingy covies" in Britain
I think you mean "fiddly diddly touchamathing trousers."
In Britain? Sounds like nomenclature out of YSAC.
Everyone needs to watch this television show. It’s phenomenal.
No one has apple TV dude
What show is it?
@@karacrash95 can you not read? It’s literally in the title of the video... it’s literally said multiple times in the video.
I love Ted Lasso! It took me by surprise!
@@missmimi610 me too!!! Started watching out of boredom. Best decision ever
You know it's getting real when he breaks out the culinary tape measure.
😏 it's only cause anything British Adjacent makes him nervous.
Let's just all take a moment to appreciate how Babish didn't sell out. He isn't snapping his fingers and doing a finger gun at the camera while winking and saying "what's up youtube, it's your boy, binging with babish" in an attempt to inorganically pad out the video length to 10+ mins for the youtube algorithm and more view time revenue. A tight and succinct four and a half minute video is all the is required and we appreciate you for it. Thank you, sir.
I guess you subscribe to Lockpickinglawyer too,
@@armanke13 do not. Should I?
babish would film for 60 hours and only feature 10 minutes of it, while a lesser youtuber would film for 5 minutes and somehow stretch it to 120 hours….
Why would he suddenly start doing something different to what got him nearly 10 million followers?
I'm guessing you're referring to a certain woman that's addicted to lewd manga?
American: We know you British call these biscuits.
British: actually we call those shortbread
Finally I see another comment saying what I was thinking when I heard the line in the show. I could tell the line was meant to be a joke and maybe was meant to still be wrong... but then Babish called them biscuits too! I had an easier time hearing Glenn and Friends calling them cookies... and Canada was colonised (in part) by Scots, the originator of the shortbread!
I thought it was only Americans that called them biscuits.
Here in Australia it's called shortbread.
But we would put it in the biscuit category
@@VixeyTeh I'm Scottish and I assumed Americans would call them cookies. Biscuits are like savoury scone things over there. Here we call them biscuits, but you wouldn't often describe shortbread as a biscuit.
We call shortbread “shortbread” here too (in the US). I mean, you do buy it in the cookie section of the grocery store, but it’s not called a cookie. I think the show was just having some fun w language differences :)
Ok, hear me out: a hunger games special, where he makes the lamb and fig stew with wild rice or Peeta's cakes, the weird deserts or maybe the broths from the Capitol, there is so much potential in the series
Oh heck yes, I second this motion!
Pfft, that’s weak, if he doesnt have a bunch of children fight to the death for their survival i dont want it
Bonus points of the Capitol foods of he drinks ipecac after.
@@chikenfartz 😂👍
Yes please!
“I do not recommend you smother these in gravy.”
“Erm...I wasn’t going to. Why would I put Bisto on a bourbon?”
I never even heard of biscuits and gravy until Babish made a video about it, even afterwards putting gravy on shortbread sounds like an abomination.
This made me laugh too much
I’m now tempted to do this purely to ensure someone, somewhere is mortified
@@lucinae8510 Same... for us biscuits are something sweet :D
I watch a lot of NBA and every time the adverts come on all I ask is “why do they call those little bread things biscuits and why is their gravy white”😂
“Put it in the oven at 150 degrees Celsius”
*banjo music stops*
*glares in american*
Smiles in Australian, we are always converting now it’s your turn
Fahrenheit just doesn't make sense
I really wish we would just convert to the metric system. I work as a wastewater operator and collection system operator and I honestly just gave up and started using the metric system for everything. It made life so much easier.
It's 300 degrees Fahrenheit, for the record.
@@cbonjella nah it makes sense
Just made them. Of course I subbed the baked sugar in the mix for brown sugar and the Demerara sugar for Mexican sugar (morena, cane sugar that has not been refined, inexpensive and easy to find), also made it in a 9 in cake pan. Absolutely scrumptious! I didn’t know browned butter would make such a difference.
Bad news about shortbread!
They're not making it any longer.
bauuu.
Well I should think that it's long enough already
Aha...
@@JonathanRiverafrickinnice555 Take on meeee.
ohhh nooo. Anyway…
I sometimes drink tea, but I will never, NEVER, call it "treasure water".
👍
What do you think T stands for?
Tbf, “gold water” sounds way worse
Pigeon Sweat
Brits would disagree. They made a big fuss when the americans dumped a bunch of it in to the bay one time.
So weird that I literally watched this entire series this week and you drop this gem. Love Ted. His positivity is life goals.
Shortbread with brown butter and toasted sugar?! Genius! Also, I stopped getting under-baked shortbread when I started letting it cool in the oven after slicing :)
Please try to make Tapenade from iCarly episode, "iNevel"
YESSS 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
He needs to do this
Or Make buledog soda from Sam and cat
Yesss
These were awesome!
Let me be the daily reminder that I think we all want to see the nacho and guac hat from despicable me 2
Edit: HE MADE IT!!!
Make it happen Andrew!!
We need the nacho guac hat desperately
Yes we do 😂
@@BigGrubber But is it possible tho?? 🤔
Yeah we are waiting
Shortbread has long been one of my guilty pleasures. I found that the creaming method with a mixer yields the best results, as is cutting before it completely cools to prevent crumbling.
The fact that you use metric measurements now instead of imperial makes me so happy
Please make "Sweet Bread a la Gusteau" from Ratatouille for your next one, Babish! I'd really love to see how it turns out to be!
would love that.
The soup from ratatouille, too
@@dylankapp2487 Remy's soup is going to be hard to recreate. 'Cause it first starts off as a different soup, which is then ruined with tap water and a myriad of other unidentified ingredients, then remade into something that's entirely different. Sweet Bread a la Gusteau is a lot more reasonable though, since it has a mostly cited recipe.
Celsius, Grams and Millimeters, thank you Babish, you finally made it all the way
I don't know why but I have the sudden urge to sent him a gigantic sized whisk
Just binged the whole season in about half a day. What a brilliant series. Can’t wait for Season 2!
Tea and biscuits just perfect.
Yes perfect
Until you try coffee and a donut for the first time. ;)
@@viperlt86 tried both. Each has its place.
You literally made me just put the kettle on
@@mohammedalshirawi7584 Fair enough!
Finally a recipe that doesn’t seem too extravagant or expensive for me to make
Edit!
I ended up making them today (minus the roasted sugar cus this recipe already took ages and I wanted to eat em asap), and I can say they taste very sexy! Very dunkable with tea. Gonna try with coffee tomorrow morning
For the most part, except who tf has demerara sugar? id never even heard of it before this video. It is at least simpler than most of his recipes
@@nameunknown12 Maybe it's just where I'm from but demerara sugar is extremely cheap and easy to find?
@@drghostduck maybe, but I've never heard of it so I've never even seen a price. I'm sure we do carry in a store around here, its just not something that people have laying around as far as I know
@@nameunknown12 yeah it’s not regularly used in many cuisines around the world as far as I know, but as someone from the UK (although this could just be me and my circle of friends), it’s quite common place. It’s added to tea and used as a crunchy topping on an assortment of british desserts (bread and butter pudding, crumbles, mince pies), which is why I usually have a small bag of it in my cupboard 😅
@@nameunknown12 Demerara sugar is essentially raw sugar. You can use turbinado or just regular brown sugar in its place in a pinch.
Ted Lasso is the most pure programme on TV. An absolute joyous piece of art.
I am definitely going to make these short bread cookies. My favourite part though was your struggle with the pastry box at the end.
Please make Della Duck's Firework Cake from 2017 Ducktales?
80 percent of the shows babish covers I havent scene but I'll still watch it
I'm glad that he's putting out more movie food recipies lately!
The whole Biscuits with the Boss thing was the best part of the show imo. Esp when it's discovered Ted's making them himself. Thanks for the recipe Andrew!
I love how even if I have no idea what he is going to be cooking I ALWAYS click
He's so powerful I'll click even if he's doing stuff from shows I don't like and want nothing to do with!
@@balentay exactly like what even is this from?!
My husband calls tea "that leaves and twigs drink with a side of mowed grass for flavor." I love tea but never stop laughing if I drink it around him because of his comments about it.
I JUST watched this episode this morning! Perfect timing!
Thank you!!! Been asking for this one! Can’t wait to make this with my kiddos!!!
I’ve been on a shortbread kick and I’ve been dying to know Lasso’s recipe- this is perfect 🤩
Barbeque sauce
the episode where he plays darts against Rebecca's ex husband is amazing
I be looking forward to these every week
I always really enjoy the short episodes after really big recipes
Sometimes i imagine, that he doesn't do voice overs and is casually speaking while he cooks...and when the video is faster, he speaks slower in the original take....
He streams a lot of what he cooks on twitch
"Ted Lasso's optimistic, unflappable energy didn't just win over the hearts of the footballers he coached" respect to babish for calling the players footballers instead of soccer players
Squealed when I saw this on my notifs. Love Ted Lasso and that biscuit scene was so precious
Was waiting for this recipe and such a great show!
"Celsius" "Grams"
amazing, never go back please
Cooking just sounds better in Metric
@@cambur13 I agree. Nonsensual units on other hand are the worst!
he even used milimeters
Grams yes. Celsius no lol I'm so confused
It's finally time for americans to convert everything to their weird measuring systems
I didn't realise people outside of Britain thought we had tea with no milk, mad behaviour that is.
We pretty much just stop listening whenever y’all start talking about tea at all, so it’s understandable.
But when I was in Britain I declined both milk and sugar. Tea stands on own.
I don't put milk in my tea or coffee.
I love the slight pause before " . . . and fixing my mistakes". It's just so wholesome.
So glad you showed the outtake at the end of the video of you struggling to fold the pastry box. I’m glad it's not just me!
Please make Shrimp Congee from Raya and The Last Dragon
