Joe - We are extremely excited to watch you perform your craft on my Cuda. We knew you were the right man for the job. Thanks as always for your attention to detail and outstanding work!
I agree this guy actually cares about reliable cars. There is no such thing as cheap, fast, reliable lots of youtubers promote that nonsense.
@@apocolypse11 I appreciate that. This car will forever be attached to me. If the paint falls off in 5 years, I’ll redo it! I enjoy what I do and absolutely want others to see that I’m proud of my work.
@blakesmusclecar Thanks for trusting me with your project! I think it’s going to be an awesome project and look really great back in the original red!
Could not have had a better guy to do that job! Been watching him almost since the beginning of the channel and he's done just about everything and to perfection with everything he has done and touches. Great day to you all!
Love the notchbacks!
Very nice '68 Cuda.
I know that you're going to make this Mopar Perfect.
It will be beautiful again.
Nice paint removal trick.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Ed! Plenty more to do, now to get back to work! Joe Bondo
Looks like a great project, certainly be great when you get it done, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Thanks,Donald! Same to you and yours
Love the scraper idea. 👍👍👍
Thanks 👍Jaybo!
Great A-body project content can't wait to see more...thanks Joe...🔧🔧👍
More to come! Love the A bodies
Looking at the fender, door, cowl and hood. It definitely has integrity. My Duster's engine compartment had a similar gritty texture before I stripped it. It was fine rust about to break through. Great going. Joe !
Thanks, Bob. I’ve got some work ahead of me for sure
Well it’s not F4 green , but still pretty badass lol. Never a more deserving couple. Congratulations @blakesmusclecar
Thanks, Kevin!
Thanks Kevin!!
I'll Hang Around! Thanks Joe!!!
Alright! Thanks brother
The people's champion!!!! AKA JMJ
Thanks brother! Let’s knock it out!
I'd last about two minutes with that razor blade, give me the DA, lol. It's gonna look good when you get it done. Keep up the good content joe.
Thanks Jeff! It’s going to take the combination for sure
My buddy Gary's truck had a beautiful 10 foot paint job. Shiny, wet looking paint. Till one day when he decided to wash the "Love Bugs" off his truck with a 3900 psi Pressure Washer with a Rotary Tip. Took the paint OFF, right down to the Etch Primer. Who knows Joe, maybe you can get that lucky too? 🤣
Oh wow! That wouldn’t be any kind of good surprise!
Cant wait to follow this one along...m favourite model car and the man with attention to detail doin it!! Winning
More to come! Thanks, Aaron!
WOW, lot's of prep work hey. Can't wait to see the progression of this project! 🏁🏁
Thank you! I’ll try not to bore anyone too much with mundane stuff, but I want to show my process and products. This will be a job that lasts my lifetime!
I have been using [Henry rubberized wet patch] in place of seem sealer for my Dodge D150 roof gutter's. Holds up to New Hampshire winters no sweat, stays uniform and pliable in all weather conditions. Ten year warranty on this product, stops leaks instantly, even in standing water 100% wet surface adhesion also. I use this product all over my homes roof to fill in gaps, separations and cracks, LOVE the stuff, can't say enough! I would rather push a Mopar, than drive a Ford!🏁🏁
Awesome! I’ll check it out!
Beautiful barracuda to start with! I’ve worked many of the old ones just like you’re doing with the razor blade. Change often, break in your fresh blade on one side and be careful not to flip it over because it’ll dig in every time. That darker shade you see there is the original red oxide primer. Someone at one time gave it a quick sand-probably prepped the engine bay with a red scotch brite and sprayed a fresh coat of lacquer over the original paint and primer. The broad curves of the notchback make for an easy arrow straight finish, very similar to the full curve of the road runner; I use an air file and cross block the entirety -just watch for where the contour from the fender-door merge with the rear (broader curved) quarter panel. That transition can be a little tricky but she’ll come out beautiful I know how you do brother 😊! If you need any tips feel free to reach out, I don’t mind one bit. I’ll follow along and if I see anything I think might help I’ll try to give a heads up. Enjoy your weekend Joe! 😊
Thanks Ryan! Always feel free to speak up and share. I learn from other’s experiences as well! Many of the old school secrets are going away.
@@JustMoparJoe you got it brother! Anything I can suggest to make a job easier for you I’ll definitely let you know. This is how we all learn and get better 😊🙏.
I’ve always said it MPRJ you have talent, patience, in a very unique way.
Love your efforts and passion, for your rebuilds.
Keep up the magnificent work, and it’s amazing how you can multi task in different ways…
May the Lord Jesus Christ Bless you Amen Brother.🙏🏽
Thank you very much!
Alright Joe, 😀 nice to see you. Your friend's '68 Barracuda is gonna be ROCKING when you're done with it. Seems like it's in good shape rust wise.. The body is straight. Anyway, have fun.
Thanks buddy. More coming soon! The transformation has began!
Cool project. Hmm, my ‘69 Barracuda red is R6 Scorch Red. Kind of a maroon red too. I’ll have to look it up.
Sounds good! It’ll look slick with the low black door and side stripes
Excited to see this Barracuda transformation! We sent you an email, take a look.
That razor blade is pretty slick! Looks a little like peeling birch bark.
I’ll see how far I can get on it next week. I will have a big pile of shavings!
Hello JMJ and I am behind, forgive me on this Wednesday morning.
Welcome back!
@@JustMoparJoe glad to be back in business. I'm getting older and I just found out that another one of my close friends died of a heart attack yesterday morning. 😔
One of if not my fav mopar. Your purple car is part of y i subbed.
Thanks brother. I’m excited to be a part of this one!
I remember soome thing about Wintergreen and old seals. It rejuvinates them. I honestly don't remember more, wish I did.
I was in bed early last night and was watching you on my tv I must have watched 40 videos you don’t have one bad video ther all interesting and you can learn a lot if you are into Mopar s so keep up the goood work I think you and your machinist have a couple of the best channels on you tube also found me a 69 440 standard it’s been in my buddy’s storage for at least the last 15 years so this winter I will be busy not sure the route I’m going to take on it but I’m going to look at all diff combos weather a Dakota from late 80s or if I can find a half decent cheap a body we will see have a great weekend
Thanks, Jeff! Have a good one 👍🏼
Looking good. Now I'm looking up long-handled razor scrapers. 🙂
Haha! I got this one at crow Burlingame (bumper to bumper).
My Barracuda did have rust in the same spots by the back window. It ended up being a major project because of the unseen rust damage after i pulled the back glass out.
Thanks brother. I will lay in the trunk and take a closer look.
I will have to remember the razor blade trick. I've never seen that before. I love those old cudas!
Thanks Ray!
One of my earliest jobs was running a blade scraping paint. Oh man I hated it but it always ended up with a better finish. Lookin forward to some dent removal expertise! See ya on the next one, brother.
I’ll do my best! Thanks Brother
That is going to look great wearing the original color. I love red in any shade! Thanks for sharing the process.
You bet! Just some elbow grease left to do 😂
Good starf the cars in great condition to start with Joe brother that big fan put that on your back and you will fly away lol I look forward to see how this turns out
Haha! Thanks Grand!
Another JMJ classic on it’s way back to the front !!!
Thanks Tim! Love the A bodies!
I enjoyed that. Will be happily waiting for more. Cheers Sir 😊
More to come! Thanks Dave!
Hey Joe hit that with some oven cleaner under the hood engine compartment. Works great like new before you paint
I’ll give the full treatment! Thanks brother
I use paint stripper occasionally. HF makes a new drum type surface sander i will try soon. There is always the tried and true DA sander. Its not cheap to pay for soda blasting and sand blasting is just to aggressive. I like to use Bulldog adhesion promoter in the engine bay where its difficult to scuff and prep for primer. Good luck Joe ! Im looking forward to the progress on this project. 👍🏼
Paint stripper used to work before they banned methyl chloride . My opinion is abrading paint and the dust it will release is more hazardous than using a good stripper when wet creates no dust at all It was a bad decision to ban it in my opinion
Thanks Mitchell. I like my. Eastwood contour pro. I just ordered more drums from Amazon last night. I have a video hack for it out there. Basically making it a giant flap disc
Looks like an old laquour thinner soak before the paint job trick. Softens up the paint below it good enough to grab a little but won't last
I had wondered about that. I also thought maybe the primer or base flash time was not right.
I usually use a plug in buffer with a 8 in 80 grit pad on it for striping down panels
Yes sir. I’ve got one of those as well. I don’t want too much heat introduced in the panels. I like the Contour drum sander. It’s quick
That’s gonna be a ton of work, but it’s gonna be beautiful when you’re done
Thanks Mike! Hard work pays off!
@@JustMoparJoe only if you’re charging enough. 😉
Mopar!
To the front!
looks like a solid car I had a few friends in school who had notchbacks they ended up racing them mostly hope this one was used as a bracket car cause if it was its most likely extremely solid . nice platform
Yes sir. I’ve still got to remove the cage and some other small items to get it back closer to factory.
You’re going to be bringing me back to those great memories I had in the 80’s when I was in High School driving it around in the original color Joe. You are literally bringing back fond memories with my car😊
You know I’m loving this one. Notchback life!! The center of those doors will be interesting. Mines like that too. It’s like it was not block sanded properly. Or at least that’s what I’ve always thought about mine. Can’t wait to hear what you think it is. Love it!!!!
Thanks Stan. I’ll be digging in to them soon 😂. Hopefully that’s figuratively
Found you Through DDG. Really enjoy your content. Been watching your channel a while now. Really enjoyed your vids with Jamie. Hopefully there will be more corroborating between the channels. I know distance thing. But really its only 3 days. See you Sunday nite on Jamie's live.
Welcome aboard! We will definitely get together again someday
Awesome 😎👍💪
Thanks John!
Great work! It will look so much better the original style darker red, that bright red just doesn't look Moparish!😊👍
Thanks, Mitch! I’ll keep chipping away at it!
Hi Joe love your channel, hey watch out for that super clean stuff it will etch and remove paint I have dealt with that and the purple stuff it has acid in it I think dunno, but hey you Rock take care
Thanks, Joe! I’ll do my best!
Looking forward to seeing the progress.
Thanks, Garry!
Great job Joe it's going to be a sweet looking car.
I think so too! Thanks Brother!
Just throwing this out there...have you ever heard of Citristrip? Pink in color. Smells like oranges and works really good. Bubbles the paint in just minutes. Non flammable. Could be good for contours.
Thanks Mike! I haven’t tried that one. I will check it out!
They actually have a pressure washer tip that’s made just for stripping paint.
Out “red” tip will eat paint also😂 don’t ask me how I know.
I have one of the Chinese sandblaster tips from Amazon too, but it makes me nervous 😬
Impressive!
Thanks Josh!
Lunch Break!!
🥪
I do like the notchbacks better.
Looks like they use some kind of air-dried primer, I would never use that type of primer these days. I always use two-part primer with hardener so you can put it on pretty thick and it will be hardened one day later
Yes sir. I’m making great progress with this one. More to come soon
Super clean is it the ticket huh?
I actually like Mr. Clean better, but this is what I had
@@JustMoparJoe I was wondering what you used all the time to get stuff done and clean like that. Mr Clean is go to stuff huh? I'm going to have to try it out on my Cougar. I finally found a 1987 D100 regular cab and short bed in good shape on marketplace! It's about 2+ hours one way in Amish country in Central Pennsylvania! I'm going to go to see it this weekend! Looks like it's in great shape and for the price I can not pass it up! TTYS my friend I will keep you posted on the truck!
I think if it was my car and I had the money to do it I'd try to put it back to stock specs so it's nice to drive on the streets. But up here in Northern Michigan I wouldn't need A.C.
Thanks, Eric. He definitely wants it to be street friendly, but it will outrun most modern cars soon.
That degreaser would have had my hands feeling bad for three days
I’ll grab my rubber gloves next time
Done the razor method myself. Real body guys probably don't like it. In my way of thinking, if it's got a layer of paint that scrapes off easy, it's gonna peel if you leave it and paint over it. Plus, if a razor knocks it off easy, that saves you a lot of sanding, turning the whole layer into dust. There's plenty of dusty sanding anyway.
Yes sir. I called my body shop mentor and he said scrape away! It’s gotta be sanded after anyway, but 75% is coming off with the blade
Wonder how paint stripper would have done? Looks like that paint was ready to come off. Hopefully my paint job will stay stuck on 😅
I will probably mechanically strip it all and then sand anywhere I can’t get to. New video coming soon!
@@JustMoparJoe I'll be waiting for it.
thats a big fish to scale it is additive once you start cant stop
Looking forward to seeing it take shape!
Have you even seen or heard of the Barracuda bumblebee edition? I've seen one but would really get more info on it. Maybe it was a 65🤷 If you have anyway to study this I'd really very much like to know what
It was. It actually had chrome script type emblems on it. I remember it had the big slopin rear glass I believe! 🤔
I’ve only ever heard of it through a viewer. I’m not totally sure if it was something that was factory, or a simple stripe or lettering kit that was made up by an owner. Interesting concept 👍🏼
@@JustMoparJoe It actually had the word bumblebee chrome lettering in script form I believe on it. I just thought it was a o'l Valiant until I walked up to it to check it out
@@allstylinone5122 you may have mentioned that car before. My memory fades as I get older 😂
The ol Earl Schieb $29.95 drive thru paint job..😂 from 1969 Great car tho!!
😂 I’m certain I can beat that
Great job Joe! Do you have any info on the master cylinder in that car?
Thanks Buddy! I’ll ask him
@Mynextproject_74 - I bought a disc brake conversion kit about 15 years ago I believe from Dante's. This is a manual disc/drum master cylinder with a proportioning valve and residual valve plumbed in between the prop valve and rear drums. The front is a conversion kit to accomodate disc brakes.
I have a lot of respect for you Mopar Joe but a pressure washer on old 1970 seals is pretty much asking for a leak
Thanks Mike. Here’s my reasoning. Darren said he’s fine keeping the old seals if they don’t leak. He will forever keep his car in a garage that’s climate controlled, and never intentionally drive it in the rain. The pressure washer was the ultimate test for me, and would allow me to see if they were pouring in around a hidden rust spot, in which they would be removed and the bad areas fixed. I’d never know without the pressure, and now the rubbers are clean enough to stick some masking tape to, if need be 🫡
What is the Mopar designation of the red color?
I’m not really sure what the code is. I believe it’s matador red
@@JustMoparJoe I swear that some of the older Chrysler colors are so killer and different than most that they are not the easiest or cheapest to recreate or have mixed up.
Wow joe thats some crappy paint on that thing. My guess is a mako paint job with no hardner. My yellow 73 charger is like that. A paint job is only as good as the foundation under it. Cut corners comes back on ya like a bad tuna salad sandwich or gas station sushi 😂 nice bones on that old girl for sure. Hows that blue beast coming lol i wont be back to my truck till late july at this point.
Thanks, Rooster. Blue truck is ready to meet its engine! It’s definitely coming up soon.
Stock paint always sucked under the hood. You have a big job on your hands, but I have confidence that you will do a great job. I hated pulling windshields in the salvage business. Junk yards to be correct. Darn dealers, if someone had a leaking windshield they would take off the trimm a silicone the shit out of it. Take a trim tool, try to find the bracket and catch the damn edge of the glass. Cracked windshield. Wasn't good for my blood pressure. On Chevy's, my dumb ass brother in law ALWAYS cut the antenna. Every Fing time I shit you not.
Oh man! You take the good with the bad in that case. You’d have a fortune in OEM windshields if you could have preserved them from years ago.
Is there a Six Barrel fiberglass hood available for '67 '68 '69 Barracuda?
I’m certain there is. I would check at VFN fiberglass.
@@JustMoparJoe thank you
@@davidjenson8124 I used them for my white challengers front fenders and hood. Most people can’t tell that either are fiberglass!
Gorgeous car but one must respect Ford they built the Shelby Mustang GT and a few brilliant v8 engines
would the paint come off with a heat gun do it right deserves it DA then primer with guide coat looks so straight
Thanks brother. I’ll have a good lifetime job on it when ☑️

That just seems so wrong scraping the paint like that.
I know it does, but it’s fast and this car is going down to bare metal. I’ll take any advantage I can get.
dang that stinks that the paint was that bad
It’s nice now at least that it took a lot of sanding away.
@@JustMoparJoe the sanding is what gets me. Although I always had to do it by hand
Like peeling a potato.
And half the fat! 😂
