Foxes have an age-old reputation for cunning and intelligence, and if this video is any proof, those claims are well deserved. One Lithuanian cameraman managed to capture footage of a fox attempting to pull in a huge catfish by rope. It doesn't take long for the fox to realize that the fish is attached to the rope, and was results is a strange tug-of-war between the two animals. While the odds are stacked against it, the sly creature isn't keen on giving up. Will the fox succeed in pulling in its fishy buffet? Watch the video below to find out.
This video I made on 19 of september 2013. CATFISH was 52 kg X 2,04 mts long. The fish was caught on the biggest Lithuanian riwer Nemunas. The fox arrived from the nature, while I was resting near my boat, because the strugle between me and catfish lasted one and a half hours. I wasn"t prepaire to catch catfish, I was looking for chubs and my fishing line was really fine. So strong fight !!

Unlike a number of other people I don't think it is cool. You catched that fish and then let the fish go through all that misery with that fox. Aside from being afraid I suppose the fish must have felt a lot of pain each time the fox pulled that rope. Since you put that fish into that situation you should have ended that situation. That's what I love about the K9 family in general. They have a natural curiosity and problem solving and it goes a long way in nature. Probably the whole reason they came close to humans so long ago, both parties recognized the benefits

I watch a Crow do the same thing while ice fishing. The only difference was the Crow finished the job and ate the fish. All predators seem to understand fishing with a line even with a walnut sized brain.

Beautiful fox and they seem so sweet! Though very skittish. One night I slept out by my campfire and I had made cinnamon rolls earlier in the evening so the whole place smell nice, and I was reading with my back to the door and I sense something behind me, so I slowly turned to look, and 10 ft away was a beauty like that, staring at me with it's fur on end. We stared at each other for a few mins and I figured with the slightest movement it would run, so I made a quick subtle move forward with my head and neck and it zipped away. Amazing experience! Also woke one morning to a pileated red woodpecker eating off the tree trunk 4-5 ft from my head, was so pretty, and HUGE!

At the end, the fox is like "ah fuck it, I'll go get a pizza"
A standstill it would seem, the Fox gave up because it wasn't strong enough to completely bring in the monster fish and the Catfish couldn't move itself back into the deeper parts of the lake so it was stuck.

I think the fox did OK. What this clip doesn't show is that the fox had caught the cat himself using a half-chicken dead-bait on a paternoster rig. His only mistake was forgetting to bring a landing-net. But fair play though, he is only a fox.

Regarding fox intelligence, passed one on the side of the road once. Looked both ways and stood there calmly, even when I slowed down. It didn't run, it didn't treat the car as a predator, but it also knew getting in front of it was a bad idea. Just waited for me to drive by and calmly crossed the road like it was no big deal.
