i notice that holder trick too! Wish i thought of that as well. I just ordered 3rd party 3D printed walls because I hate how they blend into the background also.
The stand holders work great for walls. I picked up some clear ones to add to the effect. Love watching you play! I purchased a set of Axian cards as well to play solo after the kids go to bed. Great way to learn all of the character mechanics in action.
Always enjoy your coverage of hero quest. I got the old master edition for a lot of money right before hero quest was rereleased. Now I can't afford to buy the new edition. What a pitty.
I got Heroquest Advanced Edition shortly before the new version came out; I like the old miniatures better (nostalgia) so I don't regret it but I have slowly been picking up the new edition in the meantime. It does go on sale for 50% off on Amazon every once in a while and the expansions aren't terribly pricey. Remember how much the old expansions used to sell for? I'm glad there's a new version out as I was never going to be able to afford those original ones.
Man, I'd love to own these AxianQuest card decks but for $80 plus shipping... ouch. If I buy them a few at a time, what would you recommend in terms of prioritizing them?
when the most recent deck launched there was a sale on the full line's bundle. if you're patient, you might be able to wait for the next deck's release and hope for a similar sale. it knocked a good 30% off the price tag.
The Frozen Horror introduced the a rule for “unthreatened movement”, where a hero can move as if they rolled a four on each of their movement dice. I usually house rule that to a full twelve when moving back to the stairs at the end of a quest.
Awesome video! Hope to see more Heroquest play-thru’s in the future! Maybe with the cleric and assassin hero’s from BeeThreeDee. MegaQuest, had one more drawback. They used AI images for the character art, I think. Maybe I am wrong. Personally, I try to support creatives who don’t use AI shortcuts. If others don’t find, so be it. . I’m not a To each, their own, I guess. 😊
Just so you know the art isn't made using AI as far as I know. I paid an artist to make the character art. Though I am working with a new artist now because of the low quality art from the Hero Pack.
@@JeffWittyMegaQuest 1.0 has perhaps 20 cards with character art. What would you charge approximately to do 20 cards? I'd be interested to see what an artist charges vs the AI option.
@@WindingRoad-bm6ui i can’t say. i’ve done a lot of paid art. every situation is different. i did to an expansion to a ttrpg recently and got paid a few thousand plus extras. i’m still under NDA so i cannot go into detail but it was much more work than 20 characters. Every artist has different needs. it all gets worked out between the artist and the contract holder. i’ve done work for cheaper when i believe in the project. i’ve also made more for less art. budgets define compensation. Personally, I want to support all creatives and am willing to pay more for product produced by humans.
against the ogre horde is probably worth it just for the ranged enemies, honestly. everything else is just gravy. definitely gonna scoop it up at some point.
I got this game for Christmas as my main present in about 1993. Put me off board games for about 30 years lol. Only last couple months for some reason have I been sniffing round them again after being burnt out on video games. It wasn't that the game was bad, I have no idea. I never played it. No one in my family wanted to play with me so it just sat in a cupboard getting squashed to fudge for a few years till it got thrown away 😂 ahh maybe I should rebuy hero quest and try it solo, is it fully playable solo?
I cover how I play in this video - using AxianQuest. I go into a lot more detail in a super detailed video on my HeroQuest play list, all about playing HQ solo. I don't like the app for HQ, so I don't use it.
Thank you! I'd been hoping someone would do a short play demo of Axian Quest so I can see how it works a little bit better. Looks like a great way to play the game solo or without a Zargon (or Morcar). Very excited to see the Hasbro made the Ogre Horde quest pack again as I was never able to get it back when it originally came out!
Even though I dont own HeroQuest (although your coverage might change that hahah) I found the video very enjoyable! That Lebowski reference came out of nowhere, I actually laughed out loud 😂
I understand nostalgia as much as anyone. I have not bought or played Hero Quest. I missed those years playing axis and allies and Shogun. I just wonder why put so much effort into trying to patch a game which doesn't so solo without extras and add-ons. Aren't there enough dungeon crawls out there for this one to be left behind? Just seems that everyone always says too simple and doesn't have depth that a game today does. I had all the D&D board games (ravenloft etc) sold them all off once I finished them. I put all my money into Massive darkness 2 and loving it. I bought Tanares Adventures - Ultimate Edition and backed the oh so late shipping Dungeons of Infinity: Kingdom Cost. Just wondering....
I think it's a simple case of: Your Mileage May Vary. We all approach our hobbies from slightly different angles and what you're looking for in a game experience isn't the same as the next person, or the next. You said it right at the top though, nostalgia is a big factor for a lot of HQ players. I'm not one of those (it's WHQ95 for me) but I can appreciate the occasional dungeon crawl game that's simple, fast and fun where I'm not flipping through a 96-page rulebook, hunting for charts, etc. Beer & Pretzels. And when I own a boardgame and don't have 3-4 other likely participants, I'm thinking, "Maybe I can play this solitaire and console myself that I didn't waste my hobby dollars." ;-)
@@danroberts007I grew up with Dungeon! and often played that alone when my sisters or parents didn’t want to play. Even simpler than HeroQuest but I still love it 40 years later.
I have zero nostalgia for HQ. Never even really played it until this year. I talk about this in great detail in my ongoing HQ series, of which this is part of.
Thanks for this. Since I have your attention (I hope): Secrets of the Lost Tomb Vs Shadows of Brimstones => which one is your favorite, even by a slight margin? Thanks and be well (and if you are not, I hope you will be soon) :-).
Well, Lost Tomb is on my top 10, SoB isn't, so that should give you a clue as to which is my favorite. :) Both good games, and I have extensive coverage of both on the channel! Can't really do a direct comparison without a lot of work. :)
Love using the game piece holders to hold up wall pieces. Great idea to make them more obvious as a dead end!
Yeah - never really liked those dead end spaces. They blend in too much.

Great game play. I do love the AxianQuest cards and I too have not had a goblin hero.
That was a super fun surprise.

Those AxianQuest cards are awesome, but so expensive. I'm definitely waiting for another sale to pick them up.

Infinite Dungeons, Events, Furniture, then artifacts.
