  • While looking for a tarp more waterproof than Sil-Nylon AND something cheaper than dyneema I came across Ultra TNT Fabric. Then discovered that Etowah Gear makes tarps out of this material. Though cheaper than dyneema it is still fairly expensive. I got us a 10x8 tarp anyways to give it a try. Join us as we check it out for the first time!

    I think you did a great job! So great to have so much coverage in rain 🌧️ or sun ☀️ !

      😊 Thanks! I got to use this tattoo on one trip so far and it was great! It was super rainy too and we were able to come out of our tent dry! So gotta figure out something better for tensioning the Ridgeline! (Those red things were a pain out on the field!)

    It’s pay the bills season with reviews. Ours is Halloween content. I need to be more strategic this year. Really cool to hear about these materials. A lot of math on this video. The timer section I always find so interesting.
    You should put a goal (whether you hit it or not) to make it like a game. Wind - messes up my sound on super windy days. Love the Mr. Cameo.

      Yup! Summer is when everyone is looking for outdoor gear so I gotta deliver!! 😀 Ya good idea! Turn it red when I go over!! Ugh I hate wind!! He pops in to liven things up from time to time. Normally because I can't do anything without him wanting to be around... which is a good thing!

    I just ordered a 9x9 from the same company and looking forward to it. Seems like all my current tarps hold water like you were taking about. I hate bundling up wet tarps. On my last camping trip, I used a multifunctional military poncho I bought from a surplus store. 2 hours after the rain stopped, it was still wet. That is just unacceptable. Thanks. I appreciate what you did here.

      So I have now had this out on an adventure where it rained all evening and into the night with the tarp up. Come morning, no sagging, not soaked, hit most of the water off of it before folding it up and putting it in my outside pocket! Worked exactly as I'd hoped. I think you'll be happy with it when it comes in!!

      @@DMSAdventures That's great to hear! Sounds 10 times better than what I have experienced with other tarps. Thanks again.

      We got to use it once so far! I do need to get some easier tensioners but it works with some patience!

    I have this same tarp. Same company and same size. I really like it but I need to look at those tensioners. 🦑

      I KNOW!! It was your video that made me get it!! Thanks!! The tensioners are so so, there should be a better lotion out there!! Even Crow had trouble using them when we hiked the Pine mountain trail with him earlier this year!

    Kind of a bummer that with that price it doesn’t come with anything

      While it is half the price of DCF, it still is twice as expensive as typical silnylon's and silpoly's.

    • @DMSAdventures
      @DMSAdventures  2 місяці тому +1

      @justinw1765 Yup! I had a silnylon and i didn't like it in the rain. I've had this one in the rain now and I like it much better! Twice as expensive better?..... I suppose so.

      @@DMSAdventures I think it (TNT) is a pretty good fabric and definitely has some advantages.
      I'm thinking about doing a hybrid polyester and Ultra TNT tarp, basically all the attachment points and lines of force on the polyester tarp (think these 3 patterns: [], X, and + ) will be reinforced with strips of Ultra TNT. Thus giving it a lot more strength and durability at relatively low weight, but will still pack up smaller than a full Ultra TNT tarp and be a bit less expensive to make (108 vs 126). Downside is a bit more work and sewing.
      I'm a big fan of composites anyways.. Just something I've thought about, haven't committed to the idea yet.
