Welcome to Part One of our Oman series, covering our 1 month 4x4 camping road trip around Oman in February and March 2022. In this episode we depart Muscat with our rented Toyota Fortuner (hired via bit.ly/OmanCarHire), our camping gear (check out the full list here www.goingthewholehogg.com/bac..., and some extra camping equipment we bought at the supermarket.
On day 1 our first stop is the viewpoint over Bandar Al Khiran, then we carry on to look for a wild camp spot at the southern side of As Sifah Beach before it gets dark.
On day 2 we drive up Wadi Tiwi then hike down to the beautiful wadi pools and waterfall below Mibam village, guided by a local boy (learn from our mistake and agree a price beforehand if you go with a local!). You need around 3 - 4 hours to drive up the wadi, hike to the pools, go for a swim, and drive back down the wadi. We camp on the coast near Fins Beach.
On day 3 we visit Wadi Shab. The boat runs from 8am to 5.30pm and costs 1 OMR per person return. It takes about 45 minutes to hike to the wadi pools. You can swim to a hidden cave with a small waterfall. Avoid Friday/Saturday and holidays if possible as it gets busy here! Next, we head off-road to the Salmah Plateau and camp next to some 5000 year old Beehive tombs.
On day 4 we off-road through the Eastern Hajar Mountains and wild camp above Qalhat, before descending to the coast on day 5 and camping near Ras Al Jinz. From here we return to Muscat on day 6 to buy a new microphone after the audio jack on our camera breaks : / We stay in a budget hotel (bit.ly/MuscatHillsHotel) and have an Omani meal at Rozna.

(Having been) Enjoying watching the videos of Kim & Del’s traveling together as a couple, I used to think that the depth of time Kim & Del spends sharing warm conversations with each other would definitely be very directly proportional to the depth of time spent in marriage life in your friendly hometown, Scotland.
So, I imagine that it may have taken a moment for Del to tell Kim that Del loves Kim too much before two of you get married,
but that it seems to take a lifetime to prove it now, particularly in this video of Kim and Del’s enjoying the journey of life in Oman.

Oh yeah, just big empty skies with no light pollution at so many of the camp spots we stayed at, so the stars are amazing! Probably should have tried to capture that now that you mention it 🤔😅
