President Biden was wise to refuse The Duke and Duchess of Sussex a lift on Air Force One last year following the Queen’s funeral. That’s the view of the Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden, who believes that it would look worse now if they had. ‘I find it quite an odd request,’ he tells our royal talk show Palace Confidential. ‘And it was a very wise decision not to have them on because since then we’ve had the Netflix series, with all the criticism of the Royal Family, and we’ve had Prince Harry’s book, so the last thing the Americans would want is to be caught up in that.’

a bit rude, I love listening to Rebecca and Richards comments, but am not use to them being interrupted like that - Jo doesn't seem to do that - she asks questions and lets them finish before making a comment or going on to next subject - Sarah should really watch how Jo interviews and take something from it

As an American I resent the fact that Prince Harry, who is not an American citizen, had the audacity to call our First Amendment "bonkers". He has no right to criticize our Constitution. He needs to stay out of our politics. His wife can too, as far as I am concerned.
If Meghan tries to run for political office she will get her ego sliced, diced, roasted and handed back to her on a platter. The whole concept of her as a public servant is comical.
I cannot imagine Meghan running for office. She doesn’t have the capacity to let criticism roll off her back. If “Spare” was any indication, she sobs at the drop of a hat. Not quite the stable leader required.
Not to mention, will she keep a hit list of news pundits, celebrities, and other who do criticize her? That she’s gone after Piers Morgan, Jeremy Clarkson, Dan Wooton to cancel their careers makes me question her character and mental strength.
Public life is not for your to reek revenge on your enemies - it is to serve your constituents. Our government is for citizen leaders who support our Constitution and laws not folks looking to rule as totalitarians.

As for the First Amendment, I realise increasingly that the real danger of wokery is not mixed marriages in every second house in Midsomer, it's the dangerous antipathy to free speech. I am no fan of Nigel Farage, and disagree with a lot of what he has proposed, but I am absolutely outraged by Coutts Bank's actions regarding his accounts. His business with them is strictly business; it is seriously McCarthyist to deny him ordinary and generally impersonal services because they are under pressure to show their woke credentials. I don't much care if Coutts issues manifestos proving they are diverse, and box-tickingly up to the minute. Neither, I daresay, did Farage. They can hire who they like if they can count, and brag about it if they find financial talent in minority communities. So they should, and big deal. But no more should they care about his non-banking affairs. His opinions are his own affair. What we have here is a stonking example of thought police.

@@Talent3737 Wimbledon has a dress code for all spectators. PG wore a suit and tie as did other males. I much prefer to see him dressed like that as opposed to some of the other "styles" people let their children wear. He wasn't at the playground, he was there representing the RF, even at his young age. "Spectators are expected to sport formal daywear. Forbidden items include dirty sneakers, ripped jeans and running shorts."
We all remember the mess of an outfit Markle wore with the jeans to Wimbldeon and the ripped jeans to the Invictus Games. I am an American and I am well aware of dress code and proper attire. We are not all as disrespectful as she is. Sarah Vine appears to follow Meghan Markle and not other Brits.

I hate to be negative, but I'm somewhat irritated by Sarah Vine interrupting and not letting Rebecca or Richard finish what they were saying. I thought Sarah might realise she was doing this and it would ease up but it happened all throughout.
It's so irritating to hear Sarah cut the guests off! Too rude.
I really do not think it is rudeness, either innate or professional. I know about television and one of the things new hosts find most difficult is keeping a conversation moving. There is a question of "dead air," though I doubt that would ever be an issue on this show and Ms. Vine has been a guest often enough to know that. But she is inexperienced, and enthusiastic, as well as being used to being on the receiving end of the questions, so I think her jumping in was natural, not rude.
Ms. Elvin has the experience to ask the question, direct it, and back off. Amazingly enough, that is a great deal harder than it looks. Though very experienced interviewers use it to their advantage: rather than keep asking the same question over and over to elicit an answer, they will ask it and sit quietly, letting the silence mount, till the subject feels it necessary to answer something or look like a prat! But that is usually in political, somewhat adversarial, interviews and only works with experienced subjects, who know how awful their silence will appear, and seasoned hosts, who know when to give it up or try another tack. None of that applied here.
But I saw nothing ill-natured here -- they are all colleagues, probably friends, and Richard and Rebecca have unquestionable manners and, as was pointed out, Sarah Vine relaxed into it as it went on.

Who ARE these people that think “poor almost 10 year old boy to be in a suit!”. As an American: guess what? Our well brought up young men are in a suit for church, school awards, etc.
Suit and Tie is the Dress Code for the Royal Box at Wimbledon. Having said that P George is not always in a suit. The family visited the RAF personnel who transported HMTQ on her final journey to London and he wore Chinos and a Polo shirt. They dress him for the occasion.

I am so sorry to say, but as a regular watcher of Palace Confidential I found it quite vexing that Sarah Vine constantly interrupted Richard and Rebecca and talked over them very often. Something Jo Elvin almost never does.

She's a columnist, not an interviewer, and is more experienced in being an interviewee. It shows.

I find it very tiresome that people feel the need to comment on the wardrobe of children. I am so impressed with the Prince and Princess of Wales and their ability to balance royal commitments with modern parenting. I think those children are remarkably well behaved and am delighted to see their involvement in royal engagements.
I so agree with you and feel that the Mail who always moderate the Sussex’s articles , should do the same for the Wales children ‘s , The first mentioned couples’ fans have supporters amongst their ranks that are unbelievably nasty and downright scary at times .

What is the problem with the moderator. Frequently interrupting, wanting to dominate the program, condescending. Phew. Good that she isn’t there all the time.

I read all the comments and it seems UNANIMOUS that NOBODY wants Sarah Vine to return as host replacement. She is OK as a once in awhile guest but I find her to be bitchy, opinionated and too harsh sometimes in her rigid opinions. She is an excellent writer and I read her newspaper columns from time to time but she lacks the easy going well mannered demeanor of beloved Jo Elvin.
The segment on M&H asking for a free ride on Air Force 1 was HILARIOUS. As an American taxpayer I would be quite upset if those freeloader grifters flew on Air Force 1. That Dumpster Fire in NY City when H&M lied and said paparazzi chased them on a near deadly wild ride was 100% because M&H asked for a BIG DISCOUNT at a NY hotel and were refused. So they were too cheap to pay for their own hotel which would have a back entrance and high security - so they freeloaded on friends in NY and stayed in a private home - the wild goose chase ride supposedly was not to disclose the address of the NYC friends home where they were staying during their visit. Holy Cramoli! IF they would just PAY for their own air fare and hotel rooms instead of trying to get freebies they would not be generating tacky negative publicity. I'm a senior on a fixed income Social Security and I never ask for freebies from friends and family!
Whats all the fuss about little Georgie in a spiffy suit and tie - he looked adorable - this was a non-issue fabribcated by tabloids just to cause a kerfuffle.

I don’t agree. Yes, she interrupted a couple of times, but she often referred back to Richard and his knowledge. It’s the interviewer’s job to steer the direction of things, so perhaps she felt the course needed to be changed. Ms. Vine knows a lot about history and the monarchy herself and she drew out the best in her guests and Knew what kinds of questions to ask. Also, she’s cheeky and fun- has a great sense of humor. She has a different style than Jo. I like it!

Bring back Jo, all the interruptions, Richard can’t get a word in edgewise. So rude!
As a regular viewer I can tell from Richard's and Rebecca's body language that they're not too happy to be cut off either, or maybe that's just me. The vibe between them was off too. Jo you've been sorely missed!

This host tends to cut off Rebecca and Richard mid-sentence.
Presenter interrupts often, and with loud, high voice…doesn’t know her place it seems!

Thoroughly enjoy your program and get the UK view which we don’t get here in the US. Just wish Sarah Vine would allow Richard and Rebecca answer her questions instead of continuously cutting them off. Thankfully Rebecca and Richard handled it like pros and stopped talking as soon as she cut them off as to not make Sarah look bad.
I hope they don’t get her to replace Jo Elvin again! She is a nightmare 😨

For heaven’s sake if Jo needs a day off do not have Sarah step in. She rudely hurries along and talks over the guests whose opinion we actually want to hear from! Hers is not the opinion I want. With Jo we actually feel we are having a chat.
I gave up watching this video because the stand in hostess kept interrupting and not letting the guests talk.

I totally agree with Rebecca English that having the children out on such rather informal occasions is a less stressful and more fun way to introduce them to royal engagements and being in public. Furthermore it's also some great family time, and it feeds into the interest of the public and therefore reduces the risks of harassment by paparazzi.
I am a big fan of this show and never miss it so thank you all for your brilliant commentary, tasteful, insightful and with a bit of humor.
I did catch something this time though and I can’t say I appreciated Sarah constantly cutting into what Rebecca and Richard were saying. A bit rude. I’m missing Jo Elvin!!

Daniel Craig wasn't discourteous to the Princess of Wales. He was simply discourteous, full stop. At 73 now, I couldn't imagine not standing to greet someone. My pre-teen grandsons, whether the ones in Queensland, BC, or home in Kenya, know to stand when a woman or older person joins the group. As my late gran (an Albertan), instructed me, "Do act as if you were brought up, not dragged up, child."😅
As Richard said people are requested not to stand up while in the Royal Box. he didn't do anything wrong. In a different situation i'm pretty sure he would have stood and greeted them properly.
Guests in the Royale box are instructed to say in their seats unless coming or going. He was following Wimbledon rules.
The lady who is standing in for Jo, is it? (Sorry I am not a regular viewer) I am getting irritated by her bad manners and not letting the others finish what they are saying. SHE is constantly cutting them off. She's a pain in the derriere to put it politely!

I'm sorry , as I dont want to seem to be rude,but would you tell the presenter to stop interrupting the 2 people she's interviewing. She may not be aware that she's doing it but it comes across as rude. She does this all the way through.

Seeing the happy family out and about is inspiring and people generally love seeing them.
Rebecca and Richard showed today not only their professionalism as always but also their patience and good manners. The hostess showed nothing of that, sorry to say. Jo, enjoy your holiday, but note you are missed!

Jo’s stand-in made a response to every single phrase by Rebecca and Richard - an “mmm” or a “yes” or a retort. How off-putting. Someone needs to explain her role to her; it is not to showcase herself and her approval or opinions. I found this difficult to watch.
Stand-in moderator keeps talking over and/or interrupting the two guests. Don;t like that.
I miss Jo..I love her funny and or sarcastic remarks.. Jo, I hope you are back soon❤.
