    Amazing guide! It does frustrate me how many streamers refuse to use calcs, or even take a hot second to do the relatively easy math, e.g. if special ATK is nearly four times larger than ATK, still use a special resisted move over a weaker neutral move. I understand streams have a certain flow and audience interaction, but it really kills me to see folks make unforced errors and lose runs to it.

    I found you the other day and I love the content. Please keep making videos ❤️. Gonna try my own ironmon whenever I get moved this weekend.

    Thanks for the videos man! I figured out how to set up my own kaizo ironmon a few weeks ago. Your tier list has been really helpful in letting me know what mons to be hyped for or pivot to. Sadly my PB is only to the SS Anne after 130+ runs. It was a Blaziken with no STAB yet, but I got bled out by a leech seed trainer with 3 strong mons. Gunna keep trying though!

    So nice to see this called out. I see quite a few streamers some over 3000 runs (go figure)(not naming anyone specific) that ALWAYS use the full heal rather than take an even small risk.

      Sometimes, streamers have perverse incentives--it's in their self interest to have more deep runs even if those runs don't have a good chance of beating the E4. But your point is well taken overall.

      Ah I used footage from Survival Ironmon in that segment, where you are allowed to use held items as long as you teach cut to your pokemon!

    I don't understand how people find out the stats from the damage calc. Usually it needs to be the other way around.

      It's a bit tricky. I think that I do it by typing in numbers for stats that give the corresponding stats at the corresponding levels that I have in my tracker, and then try to figure out what range of attack stats would give the appropriate damage that I take. There are apparently other damage calculators out there to try to estimate the attack stat based on the damage you take but as far as I know they don't do a perfect job.

    I'd love to learn how to properly pivot. Since you cant grind, how do you get your new Pokemon on par with the rest of the game?

      you have to scout its stats (does it outspeed your mon? If so, probably a good poke or still worth catching to more safely scout the other routes)
      You obviously want to go for higher BST mons like Blissey, Snorlax (540BST), Arcanine (555BST) Umbreon (525BST) since these have a higher chance of a game-winning spread.
      And then scout its moves if possible, but it's dangerous if the mon is both faster and stronger than your scouting pokemon.

    I just started playing this challenge, can anyone help me out where can I look up for hidden items?

    • @econsean
      @econsean  2 роки тому +1

      There should be a hidden items guide on the ironmon discord (which should be in the description).

    "If a pokemon [has high defense] it is likely to [have low special defense] based on how randomness works"
    Can you explain this? Sounds like the gambler's fallacy, but I may not understand stat distribution (i.e.: assigning a total as opposed to 6 discrete rolls)

    • @hundredpercentjuice
      @hundredpercentjuice 2 роки тому

      Hmm, you mention the gambler's fallacy later, probably just misspoke and intended "If a pokemon [has high defense] that doesn't mean it [has high special defense]"

    • @econsean
      @econsean  2 роки тому +5

      I didn't misspeak.
      Suppose that a pokemon has 600 stat points to roll.
      If a pokemon rolls 0 stat points in Defense, it has 600 to roll between the other 5 stats. This means that Special defense will be 120 on average.
      If a pokemon rolls 200 in Defense, it has 400 to roll between the 5 other stats. This means that Special defense will be 80 on average.
      Basically, if you see one stat but don't know the others, this impacts the likelihood of one of those stat points being rolled somewhere else. Because there are a limited number of stat points, the stat rolls are not independent, and you can use this to your advantage. The gambler's fallacy only works because rolls on pokemon are independent from one another.
