  • In 1781, the British invasion into New York was underway. The British marched towards Albany, hoping to sever the colony in two and isolate New England. Once isolated, the British would launch an all-out assault on the region.
However, unbeknownst to general Johnny Burgoyne, his ally General William Howe had decided to march on Philadelphia and sieze the American captial, rather than following the plan and meeting at Albany.
Now the British find themselves outnumbered and surrounded outside of Albany. Benedict Arnold and Horotio Gates engage in a power struggle, dividing the American war effort. But heroes such as Daniel Morgan prove their worth and follow Arnold's lead to victory.
This proves to be the turning point of the war and convinces France to come to the aid of the beleaguered American effort.

If you enjoy the video, you can show your support with a like or a comment :). If not, feel free to hit that dislike button. I'm looking forward to the next videos which will focus on the South, I have a new microphone so there will be some better quality. I have also started using photoshop to construct my maps so they are looking a lot better but that won't take effect until we reach the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. Hope to see you all there!

My only recommendations would be to turn down the music a bit
(it sometimes is a bit distracting and sometimes makes it hard to understand you)
Also perhaps look into some tips on improving mic quality? (Besides just new equipment: Like distance from the mic and a felt cover, can also help the quality)
This would bring your content to the next level imo, everything else is pretty great!

even with the Pennsylvania long rifles, the Americans needed strategy that depended on a dynamic method...one that changes as the situation does...that is what Arnold was trying to do, but he was rebuffed by his commander...many believe this is planted the seed (along with later events) that led him to betray the Revolutionary Army...he was frustrated ...yet he still went with an attack that eventually won the battle...great video!!!

My grandparents live In Albany and used to take me to Saratoga and tell me about the battle when I was a kid. Also, Benedict Arnold sounds like an incredible commander in this battle. It's a shame US history has forever branded him as a traitor when he was just some guy that always got overlooked.

He’s the best battlefield Major General in North American warfare history. Him, Greene, Sherman, Cortes. A few others may be in the same category but he’s arguably the greatest tactician the Americans ever had.

Don’t put him on a pedestal, he was a drunk and a opportunist who was all about glory and material things. He was always going to fail.

He was going to betray White Point to the British for money and a commision in the British army. He also sacked southern Virginia in 1781, burning Richmond (which had surrendered peacefully) and many plantations before retreating to Portsmouth being hounded by Virginia militia under Sampson Mathews. Yes he was the ignored hero of Saratoga, but you don't betray your country because you didn't rise fast enough in the US army.

Sorry to be a PITA, regarding your video on Washington crossing the Delaware, Valley Forge is not adjacent to Morristown, PA (which I don’t believe exists), but Norristown, where I also used to live; in fact I often used to ride my bike along the “Rails to Trails” biking/hiking path at the dead-end of Buttonwood Street, my home at the time) along the Schuylkill River directly to Valley Forge, about 4 miles away.
Also, “Hessians” is not pronounced “HAY-shuns” (like Haitians), but HESS- shuns, from the German state of Hesse (HES-uh). Accuracy is the prime constituent of reporting, whether news or history.

Howe really seemed to have doomed the campaign by moving towards Philadelphia rather than linking up with Burgoyne as planned. It smacks of a glory hound move. Did he think Burgoyne didn't need any help??

Sept-Oct 1777 as in your introduction not 1781. Also the music is too loud and try to keep your voice at one level, not raising and dropping it and speeding through to many sentences. Also "Hessians", not "Haitians" I know you mean the former, but sounds like the latter.

I'm surprised you didnt hit on the massacre that took place with John Stark (2500) near Bennington, Vermont as the Hessians (1500, 2 armies) from the German States of Hess and Hess Kastle) were on the hunt for horses and supplies. It was a prelude to the battle...as was Ticonderoga and Stanwix. It's a good animation though. (I've watched your other animations...on your scripts, watch your British right/left vs American right/left as they are sometimes reversed)

    • @MegaGator39

Probably because this video is about the battle of Saratoga. September 19- October 7. 1777. Bennington. Ticonderoga. Stanwix. Oriskany. They’re all separate battles. That’s why.

Well, maybe somewhat accurate!!! Depends who you read ! You Must read the books "Arundel" and "rabble in arms" by Roberts for the whole story of the Northern campaign and the military brillance of Arnold... Abused and neglected by Congress and others, Arnold finally took the fateful choice tarnished his glorious reputation and now will forever live in infamy... He was the most briliant soldier of the Revolution...

    • @GrimBattalia

I'll definitely check it out. I have a video purely on Arnold already posted. It's meant to be a 2 part video series, so that book can help me with part 2

    • @danmc7815
      @danmc7815 4 роки тому

I do not think Benedict Arnold was the most brilliant soldier of the American Revolutionary War. Instead, it is Daniel Morgan. The rifles mentioned in this video were carried by Morgan's Riflemen. The British General, Simon Fraser, shot when rallying his men for the bayonet charge was shot by one of those Riflemen, Timothy Murphy. Burgoyne's march south was slowed by Morgan's Riflemen. They used rifles to harass an enemy from a range at which the enemy cannot accurately fire, unusual for the time, before Saratoga, when Howe retreated through New Jersey. And, Cowpens, a big defeat, made possible by Morgan thinking differently about how to use militia.
Like these videos. How about one about the Battle of Bennington or John Stark. If there was a real man who epitomized the spirit of Cinncinatus, it was Stark. Without Stark, Bunker Hill and Saratoga are much different.
"There are your enemies, the Red Coats and the Tories. They are ours, or this night Molly Stark sleeps a widow."
