ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Despite what you might’ve seen in some random Netflix health documentary or Instagram page, carbohydrates themselves are not inherently fattening on a calorie for calorie basis.
Carbs contain calories just like any macronutrient and so they can certainly contribute to a calorie surplus (the actual cause of fat gain) if you’re consuming large amounts.
However, when total calories are equated carbs do not lead to greater net fat accumulation.
Not only that, but most typical foods people think of as “high carb” (cookies, donuts, pastries, cakes, muffins etc.) are high in both carbs AND fat.
In other words, they’re just high calorie in general.
This doesn’t mean low carb is “bad”, and if you personally prefer a lower carb diet and feel good physically and mentally that way, go for it.
But at the same time, there’s no need to go out of your way to restrict carbs unless you have a specific reason for doing so, and that applies whether it’s a training day or rest day.
When it all comes down to it, what truly matters for losing fat while maintaining muscle (or possibly gaining depending on the conditions) is that you create a calorie deficit while consuming sufficient protein.
As long as you’re doing that, the specific macro breakdown you use is a secondary factor and should be primarily based on what you can most easily adhere to.
Regardless of what anyone tries to tell you, net energy balance (calories in vs. calories out) is still the underlying principle that governs overall fat loss/fat gain - not any one particular macronutrient or food group.
Now queue the standard run of the mill “bUt WhEn zAh InSuLinz Is HiGh U CaN’t BuRn zAh FaTz” comments 👇
(I’m sorry but I truly cannot engage in those types of debates any longer without the real risk of my head sponteously imploding)
Thanks for the additional notes - very interesting every time you post something because you just debunk every lie out there about fitness.
But when the insulins is high you can't burn the fats
Ketosis says no
I’m a nurse and I’m constantly telling ppl in my life carbs alone are not “fattening”. Carbs are not bad. Too much fat will make you fat. It’s a lot less complicated than people think 😂
Insulin spikes are worth researching though
Sean's "are you fu*king kidding me?" face is priceless
Insulting fat people that you're trying to help is so childish and counterproductive.
The thing is that he’s in all right shape, short dudes can easily get jacked and he’s probably in high teens body fat percentage. Wild how he thinks he can give advice and talk down to people.
@@jrcell5832yeah and most people aren't in high teens body fat percentage, so yes he can give people advice on how to lose weight but he can also use misinformation. The majority of people atleast in America are fat and lazy, skinny, or even wors, the dreaded skinny fat

I didn't think it's counterintuitive. Some things need to be said loud and clear. Truth hurts. Should be seen as a sort of a fuel to get even more in shape, up there with a broken heart. One should be fired up.

I may be fat, but at least I know how to cook an edible meal with flavors other than salt and hot sauce.
minced meat with eggs and spices aint that bad honestly
It's also dumb to say that carbs are fuel for your workout and that rest day do nothing. Your body grows when you rest, and you still need fuel so why wouldn't your body need carbs ?
Well your body just needs energy to grow, it isnt dependent on carbs. But carbs are ideal for quick energy access for activity.
@@Ojthemighty Exactly, it's not necessary but it is still fuel for muscle growth so cutting them on rest days is counter productive
@@yourfather8865 no its fuel for work out put. What matters for muscle growth is calories. But cutting carbs on rest days is a waste of time.

Thank god for Sean
muscle needs the building block which is protein to recover and get stronger, and also needs energy to "move" and "use" those building blocks to recover, and that's carbs.

Im not saying you're wrong. Im just giving my personal experience. I plateaud while trying to lose weight. I could get below 195. I stayed at 1700 calories for months, and I just wouldn't lose any weight. I did notice, however, that I was eating a lot of carbs. White rice, oatmeal, and even the fruit I was eating were high carbs, apples, oranges, etc. I meal prepped and tracked all of my macros, so i know for a fact that I wasn't going over my daily calorie intake goal. The moment i dropped down to only 50 G of carbs per day, I began to lose weight. I still stick to a low-carb diet, and I feel better than ever. I know everybody is different, but that's what worked for me.
You ate less food and you lost more weight crazy.
@Zzzxx2 You must not know how math works. 1700 calories of carbs and 1700 calories of foods without carbs is still 1700 calories worth of food. I didn't eat less food. I just ate different types of food. The amounts of calories stayed the same. But nice try, sir. Please stick to your video games.

Fantastic simple accurate advice, Sean 👌
I love advice from a kid who can eat whatever he wants. His metabolism is so fast it won't matter
he is right though. there isn't actually any reason to eat carbs on rest days. carbs are also going to make you crave more food making it harder to lose weight.
Ffs stop talking utter rubbish!!!
That’s like saying you don’t need protein on the days you didn’t lift cause protein helps rebuild your muscles after your workout lmao
Pure table sugar lmfao 😂
Depends if you’re in ketosis or not.
Carbs inflame you, root of disease and cancer when you’re body is fueled by carbs. People are fat because your body creates fat cells in response to the inflammation that you receive by carbs
Lol! Your facial expressions are hilarious 😂
I'm not saying he is right but he didn't say he does not eat carbs all together. He just doesn't on rest days.
I'm starting to like Seans facial expressions in these reaction shorts 😂
It’s true. I lost a ton of weight with keto but I found it’s easier to stay in shape with carbs in my diet
Like how he matched his energy 😂
I love you Sean.
As a former fat dude the key for me losing weight was insulin management not necessarily calories in and calories out.
When fitfluencers revert back to the calories in vs calories out debate you can tell they’ve never been truly fat and have had decent to optimal metabolism, hormone complex, etc etc
Thats why i watch Sam sulek, this man is a W nowadays
I mean maybe that dude meant to just carb cycle, which has been done for ages in bodybuilding and it works. The key is to actually subtract the extra calories from the carbs on non training days, since the extra energy expenditure is not present.
And then on training days the extra calories from carbs are then used to not only get the glycogen stores full before and after the workout, but also to not let the deficit get too harsh.
Eating low carb to no carb helps. You too stay satiated due to the lack of blood sugar Spike and then sugar drop following it. This also keeps you young due to the lack of oxidative stress from sugar
Oh it keeps me young? Guess I just won't eat carbs then surely I will live to 100.
Brotha practically all the best bodybuilders barely ate any fats and only ate carbs / protein. Even the natural ones. The whole point of the short was that if you eat less food, no matter what, you lose weight.
If you don't have diabetes then insulin and blood sugar are effectively non important to the conversation.
Thank you for this 🙏💞
that is a dave franco character
Thank you!
Well said! ALSO your rest days are perfect to feed and replenish your body of all nutrients. Nothing says more "dumb f*ck" than someone thinking what you eat immediately affects your body in that instant, like I'll the bros drinking their protein shake at the gym thinking that will make a difference
Yeah I agree. No carbs on rest day
Dumb and mid physique is a killer combo
You are the best!
Sean, Emperror Of Gym Bullshit Debunking
His shoulders need some protein
Im glad this is the video that came up as i sat down to eat a bowl of peanutbutter chocolate ice cream
😳 That sounds amazing.... 🤤👍
That kid is talking to you, peon.
Carbs are essential for daily energy expenditure.
A cup of oatmeal every morning goes a long way over time even if you don't work out ,just like a cup or rice or potatoes with your lunch or dinner is all about balance that suits your needs and body
I think the kid may be on to something. You are sedentary on the off days meaning all that excess sugar and carbs may possibly have a negative impact on certain bodily systems in certain ways due to be on your butt for that window of time.. perhaps it impacts insulin in a way that is not being considered or accounted for?
This is something to look into imo regardless of a calorie deficit being in place.
No
@@ProjectLDVyes
I can’t believe some people out there are still promoting that carb dogma. Sean is 100% correct.
Even on rest days, carbs can still benefit as a muscle-sparing macro nutrient.
Top 10!
9/10 times the reason it works is because carbs includes cereal, bread, cookies, tortillas, pastas, cake, etc and most people just don't know how to stop snacking on that until they're a strict only meat/fat diet.
I agree. That is because insulin blocks the satiety hormone called leptin.
Hence why I can easily eat a box of Krispy Kreme without skipping a beat, but can't make a dent on let's say a block of cheddar cheese, or 2000+ calorie worth of steak (same calorie as a dozen doughnuts)
We have manual skilled laborers here in my country eating 2 cups of rice per meal and theyre still shredded.
I also see local surfers in some islands who eat a LOT of carbs but have hardrock abs lol
Don’t forget hormonal health plays a big role in fat loss but also maintaining a healthy body composition so yes it does matter what you decide to fit in your daily caloric intake.
I think the more important point is that carbs are extremely easy calories and mindless eating is the combination duo
It’s REALLY that simple
Bro worked really hard on his high school track meet body
This dude and Noel only people that are worth watching on youtube
Going low carb is an easy way to have a calorie deficit while still eating required amounts of protein and fats. I think the way the gym bro puts it is bad but it’s technically not bad advice.
Sean has a perfect Bert Stare lol

I agree with the first guy more than the second guy. You don’t need carbs if you aren’t using them. In fact I no longer eat carbs from flour products, rice and potatoes I get them from sweet potatoes even on workout days which for me is 7 days a week. I have no fat without some activity
Aside from the bad advice, do people like being talked down to like that? Bit over the top for me.
