Bro…the term “walk the dog” was used by Mom when my brothers would take hour long showers and she would scream, “stop walking the dog and get outta the shower!”
Thanks, mate! This video helped me out with jazz drumming for gigs on zoom calls! You deserve all the gigs you can get! From the young Australian drummer.
Slightly contrarian take - I think the reason zack's hats sound better is not necessarily because they're louder, but because he's confident they're right in the middle of the beat. Oh wait, he actually says exactly that 🤣😅😳
About time.i want to start jazz drumming but theres no teachers around.and youtube is either the basic 1st lesson,or truely good players like yourself, who have learned about most about it
I’d also say it’s important to practice accenting different parts of the ride pattern. All four beats, on the skip notes (like Elvin), and also on 2&4.
I’m starting college in a week and I’m scared to death of what the jazz band is gonna think of me bc I’m always so afraid that my tempo is off even though people said it’s fine in the past idk
Why should you care what they think? You’re in charge of the tempo. Besides, it’ll sound boring and robotic if everyone’s on the exact tempo and there’s zero variation. I’m not saying you should just go 20 bpm over/under, but don’t worry too much.
This video is so good, Zack deserves all the kisses he can get.
Salute
Sus.
sus
📸😏
i wonder whats the terminal dose of kisses
You should teach us more jazz. Maybe do a series. I’ve always wanted to learn to play it but always found it so hard. Help us
if you want some advice, just listen to more jazz. trust
Agreed
Truth.
Get John Riley's "Art of Bebop." It goes through the basics
@@skateforzero357 literally the book that taught me jazz. invaluable.

@@brendanb2517 same, I'm actually building a jazzmaster that's great to play so I can have it just like I want it
Another thing that will help you when you go into high school band is to make sure you can Play set ups for the band and control the energy

I’ve been playing jazz drums for like 7 years and never heard the wall the dog, I think that’s better than spang bang a lang
What if I don't have a dog?? How am I supposed to walk it?!?!
Edit: I stole a dog and am now walking it, Thanks Zack!
Only one dog? Ameteur.
For legal reasons this is a joke

I play jazz guitar lol but I still love watching all your vids, really fun and interesting to see how jazz drumming works.
I’m a big fan of telling people to use spang-a-lang. I find it easier to say at faster tempos and to keep the feel.
I'm a piano player but i love these vids, pls make morr
I’d also say it’s important to practice accenting different parts of the ride pattern. All four beats, on the skip notes (like Elvin), and also on 2&4.
As a metal and rock drummer i find this is very insightful
Nobody cares

I don't play the drums, but now I can judge live drummers because I've seen a UA-cam video which makes me an expert my default.
Lol just got out of a 5 day berklee summer program and hearing c jam blues just now sends me into a fight or flight response
Then end is just an “Ohh Peter” moment😂😂😂

I personally love the "tighter" swing, even tho in my opinion it's a lot harder to achieve for a beginner
