@@nickvas95 true. Maybe should worded that part differently. And yes I do need to.
@AutoMadoc know one cares
Thank you Benjamin
Explanation of his groove
Non-drummers: why is he slowing down?
Drummers: is that a quintuplet groove modulation??
Zach: yea, i just slowed down
I hate it that I thought he was doing some crazy complex modulation lmao
Teachers in 8th grade: You cannot do this in school. In college, the professors won't be as relaxed as the teachers in middle school.
Actual college professors: Dude i got ur drom solo lol
Lmfaooooooo so true. My professors were chill af. Love them to death
xD
"I played alone"
Me: nothing new then
@AutoMadoc okay
@AutoMadoc that’s crazy but I don’t think I could care less
1:46 got them Countin! 😆😆😆🔥🔥
“I’m not comparing myself to any legends” Zach you literally are a legend
Can't compare him because he's a new type of legend
He’s a different breed
That’s what I’m thinking about when he said that
Isnt a legend a dead person
a legend is a lie isn't it? a tall tale told the children, a yarn spun from days of yore. it's easier to pass off a big fat lie as a "legendary" non-lie if -
A) none of the names are changed to protect the innocent. or the guilty as hail. and
B) everybody in the story and their immediate families are all dead. due to natural causes. after living long lives.
remember to place the accent on the second syllable... leh-JHEN-daree. takes a couple tries but with practice you too can begin to speak of the leh-JHEN-daree and do so properly.
Hello Zack, I’m the leader of the organization you called “The Internet Scholars of music in my UA-cam comments”. I’m writing to tell you that your jazz license has officially been revoked.
Edited from “Zac” to “Zack”. I apologize profusely for my typographical error.

6:40 "come on, you're not a little kid anymore. you gotta learn how to play with metronome, okay? grow up"
i feel attacked
The one dislike is from Miles Davis
The other 34 are the girls who pay him
The other 86 are him cloning himself
Beyond the graaaaave.
Man, this Miles Davis need to grow up!
There are no dislikes lol
That tip on soloing and slowing down while others keep tempo is actually super cool, I will definitely keep that in mind
Just gotta make sure that the others know they're acting as your metronome for the moment. Without some amount of warning, they may think they're supposed to slow down with you as drums are seen as the primary rhythm keeper.
@@D3v1ance Yeah I agree, communication is important, off and on stage both
@@D3v1ance This. If someone slows down accidentally, it's kind of a dick move to just insist on playing in the original tempo, making everything sound out of sync. Even if you are correct, it's pretty arrogant to imply that "my internal metronome is the correct one here - you are the one that needs to learn how to count" with your playing.
Sometimes people accidentally skip a beat or slow down/speed up or whatever, but no one in the audience will notice it if the band simply follows it. But if someone cares more about being "correct" than making the band as a whole sound good, then the mistake is also going to be noticeable to everyone in the audience.
In other words, don't do this unless you know the musicians that you are playing with really well.
Can we appreciate just how much the bass player is vibin. I love when people I'm drumming with are as hyped as me
when you said "technically I got burned out after to days...but for dramatic purposes-" I felt that

0:08 wow, this looks like such a professional setting, hope someone doesn't make an immature joke
Still the most hilarious and amazing drummer on UA-cam 🤩 I’m really glad I found you months ago and this dude right here inspired to practice my drums HAHAHA keep going zack 😆
Zack you are such an amazing natural talent with rhythm! You vibed to a vamp and made so many polyrhythms in a solo on the fly while performing live lol like wth. even at the end of this video you showed how easily your brain could automatically go off a basic metronome time and make it your own in so many ways, that's special! We love what you do on a drum kit
Always some great sage advice, witty humor, and phenomenal playing! Happy drumming!
I was just watching the recital video again the other day, it’s crazy that you put this out today 😍
Thanks for saying that music should be fun! When I first started playing in my church's worship band (a LOT of fun!!) I had the sternest look on my face the whole time lol, but then I started to do my own thing (when it was ok in the music) and smile, which made me have even MORE fun!!
Epic new Zack upload, now this is swag 😎💯
I still absolutely love that video and watch it at least two or three times every few months.
Dude your style of playing is just lovely
Can you post the full song/concert? I’d love to watch it. You’re a big inspiration.
Don't worry !!!! U are one heck of a JAZZ PLAYER !!! u are one of my jazz inspiration!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are a great guy and musician Zack so you deserve even more subs. I'm really enjoying every single video you post, so finding your channel is among the best things that happened during the quarantine. ❤️👌
It would be cool to see more of your final year recital!
Post the drum recital! I really dug the Nardis snippet we got, would love to hear more of it!
Dude I gotta say you have the most delicious sounding kit I've ever heard on youtube
You're crazy - Killin' it! Hope to play with you again some time later this year!
You and your brother are wonderful story tellers and promising professional jazz musicians. Great to watch your story as you transition from students to working professionals. Awaiting your ECM debut!

Hi Zack just wanted to say thanks bro for putting the fire back in me I played drums for 20years and stoped for the last five years thank God I found you bro now I play every day
You're not only a great player, but also seems to be a nice guy sharing so many tips with us. Thank you so much for your videos and your music. I'm studying drums and your playing is something that really inspires me. Keep it up with these great videos.
Cheers from your brazilian fan! 🥁

Your boundless playing ability and enthusiasm just makes me smile each time I watch you play - thank you
Music is about expression and bringing joy to people and the player
You gotta do some kind of lesson video bro. Teach us your ways
I support this intro vibe 💯
man you are amazing, I start playng the drums like 4 or 5 months and I love ypur groove and sense of how to play, regards from Mexico!
You finally answered my question!! Thank you Zack!!
This man is The Truth!
Zack, if you can hear me right now,
you're drum game is tight AF!
I've done the same thing in my jazz recital. However, the song we played was "I've Got Something In My Frontpocket" by Butters, from South Park. So the solo felt quite appropriate, haha.
I had the same post show experience- wholesome and inspiring
Keep on crushing it bro!!! Congrats to ya 😁

Bro, you need to drop the full version of Nardis
Exactly bro, anyone should be able to be their beautiful self! Thanks so much for sharing your insights. much love bruh you jazz!
Zach, I subscribed because of your video about your Senior recital. You are an incredible musician and I agree with your friend, your personality definitely shows out in your playing. Teach on. ✌

I had this weird discovery that he looks like Dwayne Johnson with a hair.
I learned a lot from this video. Have fun, love what you do, be serious when you need to be, and GROW UP!
thanks for the amazing vids zack. ur an inspiration😊
EVERYONE must practice with a metronome, get it ingrained in your Metrodome, so when you're about to resolve you can come metrohome.
It's about TIME that someone said it! 🤭

1:33 man of culture
Your channel has inspired me to pick up percussion again, I'm pretty grateful dude
Great video and love the breakdown about "using the band as your metronome." Benny Greb talked about doing something similar, in practicing with a metronome, but using the clicks not only as the 1/4 note downbeat on each count, but "misplacing" the click onto the "and" or spacing it off by 1/16, which creates a sense of playing out of time, but still in it, and allowing for some more creative development. Good stuff - really dig your channel!
Dude you are hilarious and extremely entertaining. Crazy Nasty Good Drumming. Stay Syncopated. Make them get lost. haha Don't stop making videos.
So we all not gonna talk about the homie playing the lick at 6:11 😅
I heard that too lol
That video is why I subbed to your channel, I thought your personality was awesome and the performance was great; I loved it!
You're my favorite drummer, you inspire me so thanks
I think the “out of time” beat that the guy in the comment was referring to was a dilla beat
3:44 sounds like they came from classical music.
That snare sound though 🔥🔥🔥 🧯🧯🧯
Thank you so much for explaining! Now it makes sense.
Back when I actually played j a z z, I would quote the soloist after they hit a lick.
That or I’d pop a note on the bass and get peoples attention
Holy shit, I heard Nardis and instantly I was like, "I'VE HEARD THAT SANPLED BEFORE!" It took me listening through the full song, but then it came to me, it was sampled in Madvillain's song Raid. RIP DOOM
Everytime the video ends i have to rewind it because its always different at the end and I love it
Your editing is on point bruh
I am serious because I'm serious. Don't question it
