He was a physical phenom but without all that hard work and dedication, he wouldn't have been so dominant in his era. Throw him into any era and he would dominate. To beat two all-time great master boxers decisively in Toney and Hopkins is testament to how good he really was. Both those boxers were highly skilled and would be Champions in any era, it's just RJJ in his peak was on a level by himself. I've never seen anyone generate so much power and accuracy in both hands, with so much speed and agility. It must have been a nightmare to face him. It's the punches you don't see coming that knock you out, and with RJJ, he can do it more often than most people.

I laugh when people talk about Calzaghe, GGG, Ward, Bertiev, Kovalev and all these middleweights, super middleweights and light heavyweights of the last 15 years. In his prime, Roy was the baddest man to ever lace ‘em up. Made some bad moves after the Ruiz fight and fought way too long which is sad, but I remember the real RJJ and he was the best I’ve ever seen.

Size and over training don't have any correlation. Size comes down to genetics and nutrition. Also, RJJ had/has a narrow/athletic frame, and him gaining size would have negatively impacted his athleticism based on his frame.

Roy in his prime was one of the most talented fighters in history. Talent plus hard work equals success. No boxer today could've beat Jones in his prime.

Nobody like him, ever. That whole unorthodox style he created, with his technical ability, speed and power - he was a once in a generation athlete, but had the base of being one of the greatest amateurs in US history. Too fast to keep up with, but guys couldn't press him because he created such great angles and had such explosive power...guys would basically have to just sit in front of him and wait to get hit.

I don´t know if Roy was the best ever, there were so many great boxers in the past.
But I´m sure of this: RJJ was the most entertaining boxer of all time. His fights always were the most interesting, by far.
