  • A $200 laser/engraver? Any good? For the entry-level user?
    I bought a $200 5.5 watt output laser from Two Trees on Amazon to find out.
    Detailed assembly and some testing.

    I have a kit of a Totem 2.5 which was around 80 Euro. Sold brandless, but appeaered a TwoTrees TT Mini. Needed much more assembling... It looks almost the same. Just want to use it for experiencing laserengraving/-cutting before spending much more money. Did you ever get to add a airassist on this adjustable diode and what about the homing-/limitswitch setup. Any chance for those?

      Since this laser had so many issues with the rollers and the head failed after about ten hours of use, I got rid of it. Poor quality control and Two Trees would not replace defective parts, just giving me the run-around and constantly wanting pictures of it "not working".

    I have this kit. Sort of. Mine says sinasong on the controller cover and the manual says Two Trees TT5.5. I have the TT-2.5 also. 380x380 is the area mine says and neither of mine came with a power brick but a power adaptor instead. One being 3amp and the other 4amp. Mine was not a all assembled like yours and I had to peel off the the acrylic backing. I also didnt get a sd card or reader. I am curious what the exp1 port is for? I thought I could use a marlin type screen possibly or my BTT tft35 touch display but it wont fit as this is just a 8 pin exp1 port. The manual says its for an offline module. I got the engravers off aliexpress. TT2.5 was on sale for 125 and the 5.5 was $160 and were delivered in a week. Also, I have a 24v 5 watt laser by solvol. It says it is a class 4 laser. I am not sure what the difference is from class 3b to class 4.

      Let me put it this way: Of the 17 lasers I own, this is #17 so far as rating. The support from the supplier was horrible, to say the least. Accuracy and performance is not very good. The addition of a BTT TFT would be interesting if you can navigate Marlin well and figure out the pinout. I've done this on 3D Printers (Ender 3 V2), but have no desire to pursue much more on this laser due to all the QC problems when it was made and the laser head failure so soon after using this for a few days.

    I have the TT 5.5 it shows in the instruction booklet that those cut out on the y1,y2 goes towards back and the lasers in mounted pointing to the back where the controller is.

    I will watch the upgrades with great interest. I wonder if you can share the 300x300 grid pattern lightburn file ? HOw did you "centre it to know where the start was given there is no homing feature on the laser ?

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  2 роки тому

      Generic 300 x 300 mm Lightburn file can be downloaded here: moonshinecrafts.com/faq/ Find center of your layout area. Set laser to that point. In Lightburn set origin to center and start from current position.

      I am not aware of one. If you are "handy", you could make one from purchased 2020 extrusions and longer cables.

      There is a central furnace in this building and I can keep the shop warmer. I just forgot to open the vents more this day, so it was a little chilly in there!

    I am considering this laser. I want to spray paint a blank watch dial made of brass with black spray paint then was thinking of using this laser to burn off the paint selectively to reveal the brass beneath. Would this laser be able to capture the fine details on a watch dial like the super tiny font and the minute marks?

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  2 роки тому

      Not this one. Of the nine lasers I have, this one is at the very bottom of the list for both accuracy and performance. Look to Atomstack, Ortur, Aufero, Longer Ray 5, or Xtool D1 for an accurate and reliable diode laser. For any very fine detail, this is not it!

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  2 роки тому

      @@chrome72 Depending on your budget and intended use. Best "Bang-For-The-Buck" is the Ortur Laser Master Pro, in my opinion. If budget does not allow, then the Atomstack A9 or A5, again, depending on intended end use. The xTool D1 and Longer Ray 5 is also of good quality, but at the higher end of the budget. Sainsmart also makes a good laser, but the work area is quite small.

    • @chrome72
      @chrome72 2 роки тому +1

      I would strictly be using it to burn off paint to make etching or plating masks. For the atomstack a5 does it matter if it’s 20w or 40w? I keep seeing go low power for better accuracy. Thanks for answering my silly questions

    Hi I have the same unit and wondered if you did anything for the cable managment ??

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  2 роки тому

      The supplied cable zip ties are junk, so throw them away and get some better quality ones! As a stop-gap measure, I did tie them back to the frame with enough slack to allow full travel of the X and Y axis. I may be doing some further upgrades to this laser, and if I do, it will include better stepper motors, better laser head, air assist, and a drag chain.
