Convincing traditional oil painting portrait in Procreate

It's been a while since I painted in Procreate. SO I thought I would return to the app that started it all off, with this portrait of my 87 year old Dad.

I agree it is a very unusual composition but it really does work. I think it’s the diagonal of the arm which leads you to the focal point of the face which is the most detailed and the best lit. Have to admit though my eye did stray with envy to that glass of beer. You have caught your Dad‘s concentration very well.

I love this painting, yes, it works.
I know you can change the eraser and smudge tool to the same as the brush tool if you select and hold down the eraser or smudge tools selector, but it would be a nice feature to have the option of always having the other tools follow the brush selection.

Always happy when you use Procreate. I like all of your videos but this is the app I’m most familiar with. I spend too much time trying to learn other apps and don’t spend enough time working on my drawing and painting ! I think the composition is ok. My eyes go right to your father’s face and it tells a story for sure. Thanks

Hi Bill, sometimes switching apps can get in the way. Sometimes I think it's unavoidable if you are trying to get a particular effect like thick paint in Artrage. Either way, what ever app you use you are still practicing
