    The amount of ignorant negative comments and dislikes on this amazing video just goes to show how deeply ingrained sexism is in our society. (I don't mean to be negative for tomorrow) Equality will be a hard one to attain, but we WILL get there in the end if all work together. We can do it! Happy IWD!!!

    CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. We place special focus on working alongside poor women because, equipped with the proper resources, women have the power to help whole families and entire communities escape poverty. Women are at the heart of our community-based efforts to improve basic education, increase access to clean water and sanitation, expand economic opportunity and more. We also deliver emergency aid to survivors of war and natural disasters.

    @amanvds When we talk about the world's "work," we're not just talking about CEOs and big companies. We're talking about farming and agriculture and other methods of income in the developing world, where women do the vast majority of the work.

    CARE equally! The National Institute of Mental Health, Research Lab from University of New Hampshire conducted a study on domestic violence. Results from study:
    1. At least 50% of domestic violence victims are male
    2. Most domestic violence is initiated by females
    3. Females are 3 times more likely to? use a weapon during domestic violence
    Many studies ALSO show men suffer MUCH more homelessness (worse than just being poor), suicides, Child custody+social welfare+sentencing discrimination & more

    @NutritiouslyHigh Groups focus on women because these are the people who are typically responsible for providing a home and child care. when women do better so do the children, it's killing two birds with one stone. The end goal is ending poverty as you suggested but providing women with access to education and better healthcare is a very effective way of doing so. To make this clear, no one is trying discriminate against men we just want prosperity.

    By work we don't just mean "paying jobs" - a lot of the world's work is done by farmers trying to earn a living in the developing world, most of whom are women.

    @OfficialJerla While CARE is concerned with poverty and injustice everywhere, our mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world.
    We strive to address the structural barriers to overcoming poverty. While these can certainly be found to varying degrees in any wealthy nation, the scale doesn't compare to poor nations. Therefore, CARE believes we have the greatest potential for impact in developing countries.

    @NutritiouslyHigh it is a fact that in a society where women are not treated like second class citizens and girls have the equal access to education that boys do, EVERYONE does better. We must address gender inequality because it is detrimental to society, ignoring the causes of poverty will do nothing to fix it. Gender inequality IS a cause of poverty you cannot deny that. This video is not exaggerating, these are facts!

    I undertook a subject that looked at the benefits of empowering women in developing countries which showed that an area could be developed faster, for one women educated and a job, would bring with her numerous others, family, neighbours while men were more likely to keep knowledge learnt to better them selves to spite neighbours or to appeal to other women outside of their family. No bias study. (refer: women empowerment on any peer reviewed source) empowerment of men isn't currently an issue

    @NutritiouslyHigh my initial point was that people react negatively to gender inequality. And the comments on this video clearly supports this. And yes gender inequality does exist in the U.S in the form of wage fairness. I don't want a man hating matriarchal society I want equality. Tell me do you believe that on a global scale men are equal to women? And Honestly tell me if you agree that in solving gender inequality issues like education the world wont be a better place.

    Women are oppressed,even in "the free world."It is true that they are treated better,but take a closer look at society.Derogatory terms,sexist attitudes,getting paid less than males;despite being treated better,they are still mistreated.

  • @bobjohnlee
    @bobjohnlee 12 років тому

    @NutritiouslyHigh as someone previously stated, legally the U.S is equal but there is still social inequality, as in the mindset of society. People (like those who commented on this video) still think of women as inferior, but that is a completely different issue. If you don't care about the well being of humans as a whole, including undeveloped countries, then this conversation is useless and I win.

  • @NutritiouslyHigh
    @NutritiouslyHigh 12 років тому

    @bobjohnlee The US IS a society with gender equality. Wages are different but there a lot more factors that go into that than supposed discrimination. For example, women get married and have kids on average earlier than men do, which definitely affects salaries.
    I didn't say culture was an excuse for discrimination, neither is it an excuse for blood rituals and the like. But we're not going to change third world countries, they're just not on the same level.

    In LEDCs that statistic is correct. But in MEDCs it is a different matter. In the UK men make up 70% of the homeless population. And as Charlie pointed out the U.S. probably has a similar figure.
    I think this is because for the last century the focus has been so much on women that men have been neglected. In my opinion the feminisation of education and ruthless alimony/child support laws are the main reasons for there being more men in poverty than women in MEDCs.

    @NutritiouslyHigh you have been ignoring everything I have said? Going to an impoverished nation and handing out food is great but ineffective in the long run. I'm saying that in order to truly rid the world of poverty you must go to the source. Providing women with access to health care and education means a generation of healthy, educated kids. I hope I don't need to explain what that means for a nation. Unfortunately because of a woman's status she is often not provided with these things

    @NutritiouslyHigh one more thing. culture isn't an excuse for discrimination. Do you think people are really going to blame any perceived inequality on culture differences? If the Jim Crow laws could be written of as just the American culture things would be a lot different right now. A lot of things were in style 200 years ago that doesn't mean we have to abide by them.

    @bobjohnlee But in America... we have equality, or at least as much equality as we're ever going to have. Laws for men and women are equal, education opportunities are equal, the only thing I can think of that isn't equal is military service as women aren't allowed to be infantry or in advanced programs such as the Navy SEALs, but that is largely due to physical genetics and testosterone levels (potential for muscular development), not discrimination.

    @bobjohnlee First of all, "living" with one parent usually means custody for one parent, visitation for the other with child support. Second, I said "over 50%", and you said 3/4 children live with two parents, thus actually helping me to prove my point. Plus you mentioned US stats while I explicitly said "third world".
    Also, your initial main point was third world countries, and now you're changing to the US? Women have equal rights as men in the US, arguing else wise shows obvious bias.

    "CARE" is women centric because its easy to exploit and cash in on the subconscious evolutionary hard wired thoughts that overwhelmingly surpasses the intelligence in most people & allows them to fund womens needs over mens regardless of the fact that the majority of homeless are men. Woman in need? = lets fund an org to help her! Man in need? = lets fund yet another org to help women. Wanna help families & prevent poverty? help end single motherhood by including men & CARE for both sexes.

    @angelkitten5679012 Extreme feminism is a bad thing however, as some of them have said things such as "men are pigs", etc, and truly believe that. Feminism for equality is fine, but people often take feminism too far and assert that females are dominant over males, as they believe it is currently vice-versa, which, in most first-world countries, is not true.
    Yes, some people have a non-equal mindset, but there are also people in the KKK, people who think it's fine to abuse animals, etc.

    that's not really an argument. anyone with the proper resources can do literrarly anything and it does'nt neccesirly mean a woman.

    @bobjohnlee To add to my previous comment, men and women are not equal, but neither is one better than the other. We're different and statistics are going to affect that, but especially in the US, gender discrimination is barely present. Racial discrimination is much more present in society.

    @bobjohnlee That's not true at all.
    Image I make a video. It talks solely about how mistreated men are in society, and how we need to work to end poverty for men so there can be a better life for men.
    Poor men. We die more often in war, we have more labor-intensive jobs, we pay the majority of taxes, we die earlier, and we have a much higher rate of suicide.
    Now see my point? Talking about helping one gender in particular is gender-biased in itself.

  • @D100J
    @D100J 12 років тому

    since currently it's easier to get jobs for males maybe we should sponsor a male to get a job to help his starving family
    and did you know that woman pay less because it's traditional in human society for the man to take care of the female
    if we want to help someone in poverty to help his people we should help the males since in western cultures according to what i assume your knowledge man get more jobs.

    @NutritiouslyHigh As far as laws go, yes the US is a a gender equal society, however, there are still people with the mindset of a non-equal gender society. Perhaps this organization aims to bring an equal mindset to the table? Especially since nowadays, feminist is used as an insult.

  • @NutritiouslyHigh
    @NutritiouslyHigh 12 років тому

    @LomariLunan Because this isn't working for equality for everyone. Instead of trying to single out one specific group of poverty and help them, why don't we just try to end poverty in general? Read the top comments.
