- Nightshade is a weapon I want to love. That didn't help the review. A lot has changed form 2.0 to 3.0 and I'm not too sure it's keeping up. A main selling point is that it is strand. The 2nd strand pulse in the game. In this review I go over the 5/5 PvP roll that you will pretty much need and the PvE interaction that might make you want to grab one.

@glabuser well .87 ttk optimal but range lacks. They kinda demolished pulse rifles while buffing everything up by a crazy amount so eh. Handcannons an auto rifles are really strong pulses are definitely third place in strength atm. So rip

Changing it to strand with the green bullets really helped solidify the pea-shooter weapon feel 🧐

Not sure why it’s called the Recovered Red War focusing when it should be called Deadpan Delivery focusing.
For me it’s Persuader focusing, I finally got my godroll and it’s my main sniper(again)

I’m tryna get that max range deadpan. Since slickdraw gives 100 handling, you can go for rifled barrel and essentially get no punishment. The aim assist penalty is hardly noticeable especially with helmet targeting and a targeting adjuster. It feels really snappy
Finally the muzzle flash issue is mentioned on Stay Frosty. Unusable😩
The problem with strand weapons is that quicksilver storm is so strong. so hard to move off that weapon.
True but it’s not perfect for every activity, like Mars gm for example. And it’s def not fun using the same exotic for everything. It does just destroy most difficulties though it’s insane
Rufus Fury and Tarixxpos are contenders for top strand legendary primaries for me.
Exactly. I almost have never used a strand primary other than quicksilver since strand dropped
Osteo striga is far better for the primary slot. Sure, you could argue that quicksilver has the grenade shot, but when special and heavy ammo is so abundant it pretty much becomes obsolete.
The aesthetic of it is also really nice. If we ally with the Neomuni, and Nimbus after Final Shape (since that first episode involves the Vex), I hope we get more Neomuna weapons that look like Quicksilver. The nanite/hi tech look is really nice. Heck, I’d like to see Mithraks and House Light, as well as Elizabeth, work with Nimbus and Osiris in that first episode. They are all experts on the Vex.
The sad truth is that some weapons are designed as exclusive PvE/PvP-use. If you try to bring it to a mode it was not meant for, there is only so much you can do.
Use headseeker coolguy!!!! Istg use headseeker with keep away for consistency
Dude is building this weapon all wrong. for pvp: recoil barrel, any mag perk, Keep away, Headseeker. The mistake Cool guy is making is the classic fullbore range because reasons strat. Nightshade is a lightweight they're not known for range and usually function at medium long distances like 30-32m and he's trying to turn this 450 into a 340, use messenger dude. What I found success with was building into stability, recoil direction, and Aim assist. With my nightshade I got it to have 73 aim assist with headseeker and it slays and hits shots I have no right hitting.

Lightweights are just in a weird spot right now. They have bad recoil direction, with the range changes they struggle to compete even with 450 and 360 autos, and even stability-wise they feel unwieldy.
Feels the same way with lightweight smgs and sidearms. The recoil for them feels a little too wild.
Rapid fire are an adaptive frame pulse rifles are all in that boat as well. By making pulse rifles have a blanket range scalar it destroyed pulse with average ttk an high ttk. An balanced low ttk so high impacts an aggressive frame are alright but all other frames suffer alot.
Idk I’ve been running my ogma since trials last week, feels great for me. Went flawless with, been destroying in checkmate with it

I've veen turning in all my engrams for Red War weapons looking for Kinetic Tremors on Showrunner and every time that a Nightshade drops i get reminded just how little range it has and how much the perks really need to line up for it. Its kind of tragic.
Got a well-rounded/kt SMG. So fun specially on strand. Still searching for that overflow/kt roll.
I've spent well over 150 engrams on the recovered weapons and still no kinetic tremors on showrunner. Probably over 75 crucible engrams on the unending tempest in hopes of the demo headstone roll and no luck on that one either.
@@iinsomniaaaaa bro I had 99 crucible engrams, after 2 resets, used almost 80 of them still no demo/headstone. Hopefully I get better luck with the horror story demo/headstone roll 😭😔
@darklordshuaib yeah so I just checked, I've reset crucible 7 times and have 39 engrams remaining, meaning I've focused at least 100 as well and still no luck, which is crazy considering I'm getting at least 2 perks in each column when I focus it. For showrunner it's a little more difficult to estimate but considering I've barely used Witch engrams on anything else I'm guessing I've got at a minimum 20+ rolls and not a single one had KT. That honestly annoys me more considering it's not even a perk combo, just a single roll.

I remembered using Nightshade back during the Red War. I even remembered(and recorded) one match with my Titan using the Nightshade for a bit, before using my Hammer of Sol, with assistance from a Nightstalker Hunter and got my first Lights Out medal.
Years now, seeing it again as a Strand archetype is both a breath of Fresh Air and Nostalgic.
I was lucky to get a few good rolls from Eris:
1. Arrowhead Break, Ricochet Rounds Outlaw, Kill Clip with a Range Masterwork
2. Extended Barrel, Flared Magwell, Rangefinder, Headseeker with Stability Masterwork
3. Extended Barrel, Ricochet Rounds Rangefinder, Kill Clip with Reload Masterwork.
It's a fun weapon to use in PVP. Haven't thought about using it in PVE, but I'll look into it.

This gun is very good ive been dominating with it in pvp, also finally a lightweight strand pulse. Its stats arent as good as the bxr but its close enough for me
Im rlly hoping they hring weapon specefic mods back like the elemental mods suck when you're swapping between kinetic slot pulse n elemental slot pulses which is all i use in pvp is pulses n fusiond
Not sure if it's just me, but after the range changes this season, pulse rifles feel like dogwater to me. I was a firm believer in Stars in Shadow and Messenger, but I feel like they lack range and I struggle to 2 burst now, which I never did before.
I really hope we start to get scopes again now that zoom and range are decoupled.
We won’t. Range bands are to consistent right now, and that’s kinda how they want it to be.

Speaking of Stay Frosty… I used a Moving Target Under-Over roll in trials this weekend on my stasis warlock (shout out to Cammycakes) and I felt like I was 2 bursting warlocks in rifts and tearing thru Titan over shields. Highly Recommend if that roll comes back this Dawning event
StayFrosty has had that muzzle flash for almost a year. The removal of the flash is scheduled for 2037.
I still like keep away headseeker more, because that basically 3 perks increasing your accuracy
I'm so glad you brought up Stay Frosty! It's my go to work horse, love that gun. Hate the muzzle flash change, definitely a bug. But my stay frosty with Killing Wind and Kill Clip is phenomenal, and I wanted to like Nightshade but it just doesn't compare

I have a Hammer-Forged/Ricochet/Heating Up/Kill Clip/Range MW roll and it feels really solid, I like that it has more oomph than the rapid-fire Strand pulse from last season

I managed to get the Arrowhead brake - hi cal - keep away - headseeker - range masterwork roll and it feels good. Lightweight weapons usually do. Doesn’t compare with BXR though
Is there something I'm missing with lightweights in pvp? They just feel so inconsistent. I think the only one I enjoy is Horror Story.

I thought I was going crazy with that Stay Frosty muzzle flash. It's been like that for months and I'm glad it's not just me.
I love this weapon, love nightshade, I say that bcuz it was my primary used in my very first ever completed NIGHTFALL SOLO IN TERMINUS INSIGHT in des2.
I got a Heating Up/Kill Clip roll with either Arrowhead Break or Corkscrew Rifling in the first slot and High-Cal or AP Rounds in 2nd with a Range Masterwork, and it's honestly been one of my favourite PvP weapons to run on my Strand Hunter build, just gotta play within its range and it will perform as you would want it to, even matched it with Tessellation which has also been fun to play with, just overall having fun with the Strand kit and Nightshade 3.0 provides more tuning options for it
With bungie decupling range from stability... what's the likelihood we will get scope options back?
Honestly, I'm just glad I have a Strand primary that does Hatchling pretty well that isn't a scout rifle or a sluggish 120 RPM hand cannon.
3.0? I feel like it's 17.0. Guns like this need to stop being recycled when we have things like pulperfect that's never been rerun you got 1 roll from a pass and it was forgotten like 2 seasons later. Some really great looking weapons that were just left behind while nameless midnight is brought back like every 3 seasons.
For pve its a primary automatic D tier. Strand, does less damage than kinetic. F tier option
The Nadir brand of weapons are truly my favorite. It's such a shame that every single one of the vanguard variants are mediocre at best.
The perk pool and stat distribution on Deadpan Delivery specifically is just so sad...
Call me crazy but I feel like you need to lean into the strand of the weapon. I think it will shine with hatchling. I use my Glissando exclusively on strand and I’ve gotten so many double kills due to the threadling I make from the Strand fragment. Having those threadings weakening targets or even just have them distracted trying to avoid them is so valuable IMO
I really like Nightshade as a weapon but honestly I haven't really cared for pulse rifles since year one warmind expansion, with the old adaptive pulse, the Marine.

I have it with it outlaw/kill clip. It feels good in 6s, but not in comp or trials. My chatterbone feels good in everything.
No joke, Bungie adds muzzle flash to old guns to get you to drop them. Noticed the same thing to my old Claws of the Wolf pulse a while back. Pretty shady
I have that exact same heating up + KC roll that you do and even with full bore, light mag, and a range masterwork, I’m struggling to compete at a distance.

Dude this weapon drops with nothing but god rolls for me i got a max stability rangefinder headseeker but autum wind is still better
I know Chattering Bone is technically better, and Chattering Bone is my baby, but I like Nightshade a little more just to the red dot sight being easier to aim imo
I got a roll w Keep Away and Headseeker and it definitely feels much more consistent at range and feels good when shooting, but the recoil direction on this thing is horrendous (even with counter balance)
Arrowhead seems like a must imo with that 53 recoil
Nothing compete with igneous and Sturm so i wouldn’t worry about that
Maybe re-review this after the mid season update. With the pulse update, it should feel alot better.

The way I looked at Nightshade after I saw it in the API was it looked like it was set up to be a stepping stone Pulse in Crucible for New/Returning players, i.e. moving from it to Chattering Bone or BXR once you can craft it while being a Work-horse Pulse Rifle for PVE with Hatchling.
If its a stepping stone pulse, why put it behind a paywall?

The Stay Frosty pulse has had weird muzzle flash since it dropped. It got worse after the release of one of the seasons, but I don't remember which.(Witch Queen maybe?)
Bungie had patch notes that said it was fixed, but it must have reverted after the most recent season change. Funnily enough is that I believe it looks even worse now after watching it in your gameplay.
Yikes.. hopefully they fix that soon because I grinded for a good roll and it's juiced for a lightweight.
Mine has hammer forged/polygonal, rico rds, moving target, KC, and range MW. I would have preferred encore after it's rework, but moving target+lightweight frame let's you strafe really fast+ the added aim assist never hurts.
This was my fav gun in the game until ogma dropped with WQ, sucks to see it get a worse rap than it deserves. My personal experience differed from this, I found it well above average 450, it duels like a dream with KA and some stability/recoil perks. even RF doesn't feel bad on it. Full-bore is a ? from me too I feel like the - are too much just for 5-10 extra range in the new sandbox.
I love the weapon. In my hands it's directly comparable to a kinetic slot BxR. My roll is Under Pressure/Kill Clip. Once I get Nadir and Under Pressure going, it becomes unstoppable. Kill clip and Knucklehead is a two burst at all resil levels too, so I can absolutely shred the enemy team. My full roll is hammer forged/ricky rounds/under pressure/kill clip/range mw

I have so many versions of this pulse. I had fun with it in both PVP and PVE, but I have to agree. As much as I liked the feel of it, my Messenger, Battler, and the PSI Hermetic beat it out.
There’s so many pulse rifles in the game now. You’re spot on that it has to be a 5/5 for me to at least keep it. I’m going to save my vanguard tokens until my 2nd reset and then grab as many as I can to get the enlightened action hatchling. I always go for the perks specific to the subclass (incandescent, voktshot, hatchling, headstone, destabilizing rounds) when I craft or RNG a roll. See you in the next one.
Prefacing this that Im mid tier PVP at BEST, but I got a heating up x headseeker roll that's been doing pretty well for me with my strand kit in checkmate. Feels good in general, unlike how Different Times felt, so Ill be holding on to this one.
I haven’t played with mine too much as I’ve been loving my igneous with keep away and golden tricorn, but I have a outlaw/headseeker nightshade that feels good when I do put it on
It felt so good back in the day. I dont know what they did to it. I have heating up Kill Clip, but my range isnt very good, but maybe it'll feel better with keep away kill clip instead of heating up and a better masterwork, but its such a shame that its not craftable and there are so many lightweights that are which automatically makes them better, but it used to be my baby back in the day so i just want it to be good so bad
Dropped an arrowhead, ricochet, enlightened action, hatchling. Probably the best it’s gonna be i guess. Wish it felt better in PvP.
I have tried a Heating up/Encore roll and it feels pretty good. I don't need damage perks necessarily.
idk why, but ever since i got nightshade from the beta it has always been one of my favorites. i love the gun model, not a huge fan of the selected scope for it, loved the red dot micro on it. personally. i think keep away headseeker is my roll

I love how hatchling and rebirth in PvP gives 3 threadlings when they proc together, I love it for PvP even

Encore heating up is pretty strong indeed. I want max range keep away encore tbh.
I don't know what it is about this version but it feels so smooth to use. It almost feels like I have to try to not hot headshots. Maybe it's the Nadir perk or they changed something behind the curtains but currently it's my favorite pulse to use in pvp
All weapons realeased this season have predetermined recoil pattern aka your gun is always gonna recoil in a predictable way so the more you us the gun the better you will get with it.

Sorry but this is a left behind pulse, I don't see myself using this in any of the strand builds in PvE or even use it in PvP. If this was one of the craftable weapons for this season, then I would probably consider it, but as it currently stands, its an old weapon that's unfortunately been overshadowed by better weapons.
Nightshade is fun but the persuader with discord precision instrument.. rapid fire fun. Nightshade for pve forsure though
I absolutely love this thing (in PvE). I pretty much only play on Strand hunter nowadays and final warning is easily my favorite exo weapon by now, so finding a Strand legendary to replace it, when I want to use something else has been difficult till the new nightshade. Only other one that was worth considering for me was the roots of nightmares pistol, but I don't raid lol
So just to make it nice and clear how much HP Vanguard's Vindication gives you.

If you're using this in PvE, you can use literally *anything* in PvE because if you're using it purely for shit-tier unrelenting, you're making a mistake.
Plain and simple.
If you're dragging this into End-game PvE, my first question is why, when Quicksilver Storm exists, in a pretty much unparalleled 'Strand Weapon synergy' state, with bonkers utility and damage to boot via the Trace Rockets/Grenades.
"But it's an exotic"
And not in the exotic slot, we have Rufus Fury which competes at similar range as this Pulse Rifle, but also has a slightly better origin trait if rocking all of the set (Kinetic/Energy/Heavy) against Lucent Hive and Champions (which are more common in that content), whilst also having access to better damage perks in Column 4 (Notably Frenzy and Paracausal Affinity), whilst Nightshade's best damaging perks are Kill Clip OR Headseeker - neither of which is massively preferable in PvE content.
It's a good Lightweight Frame, but I just think it is a sign of times gone by, and if the usage case is "PvE"; just don't.
It has so many better options that would be 'Strand' (if that's it's selling point).
In PvP, it's just another Headseeker pulse, but with benefits of the Lightweight frame, of which, if we were in last years meta, where we were seeing more Pulses and slightly more static gun play, then i'd be all over it, but as it stands, almost any other Pulse can occupy the position of this one, it isn't unique enough to stand out, and with a 1 in 4 of getting this weapon *at all*, certainly not worth your time to farm.
That's a lot of text. Yeah it's 7. I said that it is 7. Perks like hatchling/volt/incandescent etc. All of *those* kills also proc vanguard vindication. So yes, indeed, if you burn out or the hatchling destroys 5 enemies, you get 35 health. 7 for each down.
Maybe not the best for console players. The enlightened action/kill clip is deadly and has been dominating. The issue I have with the info in the video, though, is that it seems like you're trying to use a lightweight frame at range. At that point, a scout, sniper, or high impact frame would be the go-to.
