I just moved in to an apartment, yesterday actually. They charge a security deposit and cleaning fee. Before moving in we noticed that it was DISGUSTING and mold in a few places. We had the cleaning lady come back, it smelt like she cleaned but we saw absolutely no difference. It’s like she sprayed Lysol then left. Hence why I’m here 💀
Girl, this is DNA removing level of cleaning! 😂 🙌🏼 The landlord should give you a credit for the work you put in! I appreciate all the tips and tools plus showing areas often overlooked. This was inspiring, relaxing and helpful.🙏🏻 PSA: many GE ovens have a steam clean feature. Just pour 1 cup of warm *distilled* water onto the bottom of the oven--it has its own built-in "tray" like yours and run the steam clean. It does a great job of loosening debris and all you have to do is wipe down the oven.
You had that dishwasher looking brand new! I've never seen anyone clean the dishwasher (and the garbage disposal as well) so thoroughly. It was so satisfying to watch. And I also feel validated because I clean things thoroughly like that. I'm aware that (hopefully) places hire someone to clean an apartment before a new resident moves in. But that doesn't mean that they do a good job. I found 3 size 2T tshirts and a pair of jeans when I moved my dryer so that I could clean behind it. So it doesn't hurt to be thorough in your cleaning.
I know you're a cleaning queen, but the best thing I ever started doing was paying a local, woman-owned small business cleaning crew to go into my new spaces and give them a thorough deep clean. It was a game changer.
I’m young & moving into my first apartment after living in hotels for the past 3 years and I came across this video . I needed this so bad I’m big on energy & cleansing & this cleaning routine will have me on the right track to do so & freely enjoy my new home 🥰 !!!
I have never in my life been aware of that garbage disposal tip with ice + hot water. I decided to give it a try this morning and was appalled at the amount of gunk that dislodged. Equally absolutely disgusting as it is deeply satisfying. Thanks so much for these tips and the effort you put into these videos!
I've never met anyone who would go to the trouble of cleaning their dishwasher to that extent! Especially in a rented house or apartment. You're a BEAST! That was inspirational and disgusting. 😉
This video was amazing!!!! It helped me understand there are more environmentally friendly ways to clean. I always have assumed they don't clean as well. I really enjoyed watching it WORK!! You make it look easy, but I know it takes a ton of energy. I would love more deep cleaning videos!!!
I used to manage apartments for years. I wouldn’t let an apartment get rented like this. However, I always did a walk-through with a checklist and went through with new residents moving in, because I wanted to make sure they were happy upon move-in. If they felt something wasn’t clean, I’d either clean it myself (if it was 1 or 2 things that would take me 20 minutes or less to complete) or get the cleaners to come back, if there were more items that the resident wasn’t happy with. Most of the time, the cleaners will come back for free, if the resident (or myself) is not happy with the cleanliness upon move in, at least with the companies I used. I would send the cleaners back with what needs to be redone. Apartment managers pay companies to come and clean, so please let your manager know if they need to come back. This helps out the manager and the management of the cleaning companies (or helps the housekeeping staff, if they have their own housekeepers). This helps the cleaners understand the expectations of the residents and management as well. I’ve managed properties in all different areas, but my standards were the same at new apartments and apartments that were built decades prior. Please communicate with your rental office, if the cleanliness is not to your standards. However, I did enjoy watching this video, thank you!
as a person who was never taught anything abt anything by my parents (and also has adhd, so if they did "teach me" it wasn't enough for me not to forget it), this is already gonna come in *so* much help when i finally move out. idk how to adult yet, but ill find out on my own lol, n these vids rlly rlly help!
I second all the comments saying how satisfying and educational your cleaning videos are. You should make a video talking about the cleaning products you use including the tools. I’d love to learn about more environmentally friendly and safer cleaning products.
Scrolling through my recommended videos and I just know my phone be in my business. 😭😭 I’m getting ready to move and I was planning on wiping everything down, cleaning the carpets, and steam moping the floors. It’s ESSENTIAL AND NECESSARY to do this beforehand, because you definitely showed how unclean clean can look and be.
People should do this more often... if at all, because I know people who certainly don't check, ever. Thanks for a great informative and calming video, as always! Also: the loofa. Yes! My granmother and her mother used it in the kitchen, it was super cheap and effective.
Girl you are a godsend!! I literally just watched another video that was a move in clean like this. And I was lie this is cool, like good cleaning and tips etc but it was A TON of products and mostly Clorox. I was like dang I need an eco friendly, mostly non toxic cleaning person to watch and learn from. Literally was starting to fold laundry and decided to play something. I was scrolling on UA-cam under the move in clean search and came across yours. I don't know what drew me to your video but it definitely didn't have eco friendly clean plastered on it. But anyway I started watching it and literally subscribing, ai swear by Dr. Bronners and I love that you point out what we can use like loofah(never thought to consider compressed loofah as a sponge alternative). Or that fact you use mostly soap, specifically dr.bronners and vinegar and baking soda. Of course there are other products you use but nothing harsh and extreme! Absolutely captivated and ready to learn to clean on this level.
0:35 Fun fact: You can actually take off the oven door without unscrewing anything. Just put back the silver latches on either side and the oven door lifts right off.
Part 2 please ! This was soooo satisfying! Took me back to when we moved into this house three years ago….it was (somewhat) visually clean but in reality sooo deep down filthy 😵💫. I cleaned and cleaned but we have since replaced literally everything but the washer and dryer.
I love your cleaning videos! You make cleaning look so elegant 😎 But when you took that dishwasher apart to clean it I thought, holy schnikes, I would never remember how to put it back together 😂 Also, my washing machine has a self cleaning cycle that notifies me every 40 cycles to do it. It super heats the water and takes 4 hours to run so I do it at bedtime. It keeps that funky smell from developing. 🤠
I loved how well you explained everything. I was never taught how to clean things with natural products so I have definitely been using things wrong. MUCH LOVE!!
Didn't realize how much I like cleaning content until recently - certainly makes it easier when doing so and this is a great example for future tenants everywhere. NICE
That’s the cleanest dirty water I ever seen lol (after cleaning the oven). Thank you for doing this video. Some of us need this help and didn’t get it at home.
Fuego. This reminds me of the time before kids when I used to clean my toilets with Q-tips. Now, I go by progress (my mom used to always say "at least it's better than how it was"). I am enlightened: you use straight EO, among other products and methods that I've wanted and haven't gotten into (steam cleaning being one of them). A zero waste blogger gave me many ideas for this.
When you were pulling stuff out of your dishwasher that looked like hair, I was so grossed out but couldn't look away😵💫! Definitely inspired to do a deep clean of my rental!
Loved this video! I’m definitely buying citric acid. I already use vinegar in my cleaning routine and it is very effective. You are the boss in cleaning!😊
Love this!! Finally finished deep cleaning both bathrooms in my new place, prior to viewing this. I appreciate the guides in how to tackle so much more 💯✨
Would you make a video on how you do laundry? We also use all natural products in our home and I haven’t found a good way of removing stains, and even your cleaning rags look new! ❤ Congrats on the new place
I am SO glad I found you. I am moving into a co-op in a month. The same woman lived in it for 30 years. I can’t afford to renovate the bathroom yet and I am so skeeved out. I need to DEEEEEP clean!!!
I love taking an extra adderall and getting really into cleaning. My apartment is spotless and I try to keep it that way. Guests must take shoes off before walking into the threshold of the front door, vacuum every 3 days, etc
We were so blessed to move into a newly remodeled apt so we got to rip new plastic but this is my least favorite adulting task. This is a good video for spring cleaning as well.
I'm moving in three weeks. I am dreading the big clean at both places. Your landlord should give you a cleaning credit - it should not have been that dirty!
I think cleaning videos are becoming my new asmr 😊 I have a question though for things you used vinegar for could you use citric acid instead? Are they interchangeable or only for certain things you clean?
Thank you so much for making this video!! I'm moving into my first apartment soon and this is a super helpful checklist :) I'm so motivated to clean up my parents house before I leave. Ur awesome
Moving to Dallas from Brooklyn, my sister viewed the place for me on FaceTime. I am shipping my things down, my sister will clean the place for me. However, I will arrive prior to my things. I will certainly make sure I check everything like dish washer, washer and dryer etc. I'm so ridiculous, I know I'll have to clean it for myself.
The efforts you and your team put into your 'collective wisdom' is awesome and sure, one time go-around is quick in editing post video to consumer consumption....great messaging, ps baked-on factory enamel can come off bc most off-shore manufacturers are told to make p/obsolenses when in fact, the American consumer wants too pay more for better quality. Always questioning quality over quantity.
PSA about the microwave cleaning!! If the liquid is heated too long without being disturbed, it can “super heat” which means it will boil internally without any visual indicators. As soon as it’s disturbed by either dipping a rag in it or even moving the glass, the boiling will immediately rise to the surface and explode. That’s why you aren’t supposed to heat coffee (or anything really) for long periods without stirring inbetween. This is specifically a microwave issue, not necessarily oven or other heating appliance. PLEASE be careful!! So many people have been sent to the ER for this very reason.
i get icks deep cleaning with towels and rags bc i just can't stand looking and the dirt,, i just want to throw it away immediately. Do you just rinse off the dirt on the rags or toss them in the wash?
Oh lawd! What the heck was in that dryer vent? And were those gnats in the microwave vent? They should be paying you to clean all those units. You have those appliances sparkling like new❣️ Go mama🥰
The previous tenants of my current apartment left this place immaculate. The only issue was that when they filled in the holes and painted them, it was the wrong shade of white and the landlord never repainted (that’s the landlord’s fault) But I was surprised when I went to clean the oven’s vents and they were spotless. Same thing with the oven, bathtub, dishwasher, fridge, and cabinets. She wanted that security deposit back 😂
yes they do. i always use citric acid on chrome specifically but you can interchange them as you wish. Sometimes i even just use it to avoid the smell of the vinegar if im not in the mood for the odor.
I stopped the video to go clean the disposal! One tip, you can actually pull out the washing machine agitator after unscrewing the top like you did. Then you can clean the inside too.
Do you know there's linen sponges/dish cloths? I use walnut shelled ones for now. I have chainmail for my cast iron. I make disinfecting wipes from a doTERRA recipe (1/4 c rubbing alcohol, 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1 cup slightly boiled water, 5 drops each of lemon and lavender oils, plus paper towels).
I'm moving into a small house that had roaches and pet waste masked by toxic cleaners, and a fresh coating of paint to hide the filth. I want to throw all the essential oils and citric acid at it as much as I can. I'm not sure how to properly treat hardwood flooring. That's going to be interesting to clean my current house for the next tenant and the new one that needs a lot of TLC.
good luck with the move. it sounds like a lotta work but you also sound very prepared. i havent tried it yet but hear linseed soap is good on hardwood.
two questions 🥹 1. how are you so knowledgeable? I'm in awe 🥹💐💐 2. Do you have a video up breaking down utensils and tools and substances for cleaning?
1. ive always favored natural alrernatives and learned to be frugal out of necessity, so buying multi-purpose items was a must. 2 i dont but can make sure i add it to part 2 for this video
Girl at this point the apartment building owes YOU a security deposit and cleaning fee 😭😭😭
immediately!
I know that’s right
RIGHT!!!!
It’s sad but whoever dose the cleaning at all apartments don’t know the meaning of clean fr
Hence why I’m here 💀
I own a cleaning business! Move in / move out cleanings are so essential to making sure you’re living in a fresh, clean environment ❤
i wish my landlord hired u 😅
that garbage disposal trick was iconic and horrifying
