    I have been collecting for thirty or more years now but I haven't extricated very many of my specimens because of lack of tools and time. Now that I have the tools (a few at least) and finally the time, I'm learning how to do the work. Your videos are a great help. Thanks!!

    Glad you’re back filming. It was great to meet you when I was down in Charmouth. Didn’t have much luck finding anything decent but the dog loved it (worlds strongest small dog) if you remember.

      I do remember! Went out last week after the high winds and tides and had a decent session, just editing that one now. Hopefully get some more videos made now the summer fossil walks have finished.

      I’ve not collected in Yorkshire for years, I love Sandsend that used to be one of my go to places. The Facebook group The Yorkshire fossil hunters would be worth joining, loads of folk on there to help, Mark Kemp The Yorkshire Fossiler is a top bloke that does guided walks, and Byron has a good fossil shop in whitby that would be worth a visit

    • @TheFossilAcademy
      @TheFossilAcademy  Рік тому +1

      Zoicpaleotech.co.uk have some really good fossil tools, small company, awesome customer service and all around really nice folk. The electric engraver is a good starter tool, the biggest downside is there isn’t a constant stream of air clearing away the dust like with the pro air scribes and compressor set up. It’s a good starting point though to see if you like it.

      The air scribe is a Chicago pneumatic CP-9361 modified to work as a fossil scribe, also use a Comco air abrasive system (basically a micro shot blast) with dolomite powder. If you want to browse some fossil air tools head over to Zoic Paleotech online, they do a really awesome range of tools. They do a good electric engraver with custom made fossil tips that is a really good starter tool to see if you like it before forking out loads of cash on a pro setup. If you’ve got any questions send me an email at info@thefossilacademy.com I can send you links to info that might help. Rock on 🤘 Dan

    I think it s not allowed to dig flatstones out of the cliff, that one you are showing, looks as it comes out of the cliff very fresh, othewise the surface would look different....sorr to say that...

    • @TheFossilAcademy
      @TheFossilAcademy  10 місяців тому

      You are right, it is not allowed to dig flatstones from in situ, this is from the slips which is ex situ and totally allowed. This one is from the pinnacle slip on the Ven. That nodule is also washed and scrubbed, like I do with all my whole nodules I bring back, that way I can see if there is anything sticking out.

    Can you please tell me what tool do you use? I got dremel stylo+ but it is more like drill. Good for details but take ages to clean my fossils. Thank you

    • @TheFossilAcademy
      @TheFossilAcademy  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Peter, I use a Chicago pneumatic cp 9361 air scribe with a decent 150 litre air compressor, for fossil tools in the uk check out Zoic Paleo tools online and if you’re in America I think the main fossil tool dealer is Paleotools, zoic sell the Dremmel air engraver with handmade fossil points which is the electric version of the air scribes I use. Zoic have some good starter kits too and some good info on what the different tools can do.

      Sorry dude missed this comment, I use a Chicago pneumatic CP9361 air scribe, slightly modified end ( smashed of the top collar with a hammer then ground a little bit more ergonomic) then sharpen the tip using a diamond belt. For fossil tools if you are in the uk check out Zoic Paleo tools. They have some brilliant info on their site too

    Is that a real fossil on the wall 6.24?

    • @TheFossilAcademy
      @TheFossilAcademy  2 роки тому +1

      Sadly not! It was an old cast that was broken destined for the bin! I took it home and pieced it back together, you can buy them from Craig Chivers at natural selection fossils online, this one is an old one, his new casts are amazing museum quality pieces, think one that size is around £300 and it would take someone with a keen eye to tell the difference when it’s up on the wall. Defo worth checking out his work.
