    Weltmeisters are made in East Germany (not China) in a city named Klingenthal. I'm told Weltmeister is the oldest continuously running accordion company (accordions were made in Germany before Italy). The reeds come from Italian companies in the more expensive models. Kimric Smythe who took the footage here, could tell you more as he's dealt with the company for years.

    I believe these are budget-priced instruments (well I'd say compared to Italian boxes, everything else is 'budget') but with solid european quality-control and know-how. They seem to source some of their components (like reeds) from the great Czech accordion maker, Delicia.

    I recently purchased a used Weltmeister Stella model with 34 keys and 48 basses. I 'm told that it is about 15 years old. I don't know where the reeds on the left side came from but they are better than anything i've heard including hand made Italian accordions. This little accordion has a sweet sound and I will not part with it.

    well, it's been 3 years and does anyone from the old Weltmeister factory know what glue that lady was using before applying the celluloid to the accordion ?

  • @TheYatta
    @TheYatta 14 років тому

    it's celluloid. it becomes soft and elastic when soaked in acetone.

    It's amazing how advanced these instruments are, and how very few people really appreciate accordions. And there so many firms making accordions, Hohner, Weltmeister, and countless firms in Italy. I mean, millions of people are glued to their cell phones all the time, and don't seem to be interested in anything else anymore, which I think it's quite sad, and will only make dedicated devices like accordion slowly disappear over time. Or maybe they'll stay. Maybe musical instruments are not mass produced goods. Nonetheless, dedicated electronic devices (camcorders, compact cameras) already start to disappear in favor of quite tacky to be honest multipurpose devices. Anyway, I am digressing. I always have too much to say. Sorry.

      You are completely right. As far as I'm informed Weltmeister closed their production facilities in Germany in 2015. Production moved - guess where? Right! Everything was stripped down and there is no legendary Weltmeister quality any longer. The problem is that it's impossible to make a good accordion cheaply. You are right: since majority are now more interested in smartphones, there is much less demand for accordions. No demand - no way to make an expensive accordion in Germany. Perhaps Italy is next to exit that market.

      @@johnpiettro4644 not really they might not be so popular I’m the US but they are pretty popular still in some European countries and specially in Latin American countries such as Mexico, Colombia and Brazil it just depends on a region, at least Italian brands are atoll made Italy now German brands shags a whole diferentes story

    Hello!
    I wonder if you could help me. I have a Firotti Eroica accordion. It is in good condition, but I need to buy all of the buttons on the treble side. There are 30 black buttons and 48 white ones. They screw on. Please let me know if you can help me. I would be more than grateful if you can. Thank You Dan

    While the Chinese have improved the quality or their accordions , they are still rather bulky and unresponsive ,compared to anything made in Europe. But them again they are very inexpensive. You get what you pay for.
    Weltmeister as I understand it ,is a company formed from the best elements of a couple of factories in Klingenthal after unification.
    The reed blocks on the smaller Stradella bass instruments are molded plastic,(72 bass and smaller) this helps keep the weight and cost down.
